At the heart of it all, just a kid playing ball!

Canon-Mac Youth Baseball is for boys and girls age 4-16 in the Canon-McMillan school district. Established in 1952, CMYBA is dedicated to teaching children the fundamentals of baseball in a safe and fun environment.  Come join us for another successful season!

CMYBA to merge with CTYBA

Players, Parents, and Fans,

My name is Tony Gregory and I am the President of the Canon Mac Youth Baseball Association and I am writing to you on behalf of the combining of Cecil Baseball and Canon Mac Baseball for next year.

First off, I want to thank everyone for a great season between both leagues.  The teams were evenly matched at all levels and I heard some awesome stories about the playoffs, coaches, and even certain individuals.  I know many of the games went into extra innings and were very exciting.  This just proves that we have some unbelievable talent, who not only want to play baseball in this district, but have a commitment to succeed for Canon McMillan that is unmatched.

This also has been a great year for you as a parent in our community.  I have to give you a huge compliment in the way you handled yourself throughout the year.  In the past years,  Jim Hyde, Bob Abt or myself have received multiple complaints from parents that claimed either Cecil or Canon Mac were trying to have the upper hand in rules, games, players, or because of a dissention between each other.  This year, we really have not had any.  The complaints we did have were very minimal and had nothing to do with the other organization.  Many were singled out to their own organization and were minor flaws that could be fixed relatively quick.

Again, it just proves that we have a base of parents that believe in their community, the Canon McMillan School District, and most of all ….. their kids!  This positive energy, along with the good morals and ethics you have distilled into your kids throughout the year, will not only carry forward on the baseball field, but also into the rest of their lives.

This year has not only been good for the players and the parents, but has also been a big transition year for both Boards.   In the past we would have come together at the beginning of the year to talk rules and black-out dates and would not speak to each other the rest of the year.  This year, we were committed to communicating throughout the entire year with positive success and have built a strong relationship that will carry through the exciting changes in the years ahead.

So why am I telling you all this?

As many of you know, with the increase of multiple Travel Ball Teams, other sports such as Lacrosse and Soccer having a huge presence in the District, along with every organization being “ONE” except for baseball,  it was the perfect storm for us to combine our All Stars this year.   Not only was it essential for certain ages, but we also believe it was a big impact for the future of Canon McMillan baseball.  This was a big test to see if we could work together as two boards and accomplish a task.  This was not only a task, but a very important task to both organizations.  Now that we have gone over that hurdle, we feel that it is only natural for us to continue to move forward in bringing us both together.

With that being said, and the rumors flying like baseballs, we wanted everyone to know what our next steps are in this process.  Basically, the who, what, when, where, and most important why?

Cecil Township Youth Baseball Association and Canon McMillan Youth Baseball Association

Come together as a single Canon – Mac Baseball Association

Meetings will be every Monday throughout July between both Boards.  Fall Ball will incorporate one registration, the draft, shirts, rules, and one committee.  In August, a Travel Board will be in place to run a new In-House Travel League along with having Try Outs for the 2015 season.  Throughout Fall Ball and into the winter, we will continue to meet with each other with each meeting having a focus. Ie: (Sponsorships, Finances, Insurance, Fields, Committees, etc.).   Throughout the winter there will be multiple clinics where everyone will work together as one to improve all the fundamentals to make us the best organization not only in Western Pennsylvania, but State wide.  As spring approaches, we will combine as one Board, including finances, and any small details that need worked out.   By-Laws will then be ONE and ONE organization will be in place.

Canon McMillan School District

Strength in Numbers:

Improvement to our local Fields

One Registration, One Price, Same Goal

A Stronger Allocation of Finances to where they are needed

With a stronger presence, we can attract more Corporate Sponsors

We can be Pony Sanctioned to be part of the Pony World Series

We can be the ultimate Feeder Organization for the High School with eventually involving the High School Coaches

Stronger All Star Force throughout the region.

Have an Affordable In House Travel Team to compete throughout the Tri State

Less Dissention between two communities

More Grant access for the overall improvement of the organization

Competiveness throughout the area

We realize this is a large undertaking and we are treating it that way.  It is important that throughout this process there will be a lot of compromises, bumps, and bruises.   With that being said, we are going to do the best we can in making sure this is done fairly, the right way, and in a way that will be good for the Community, the School District, and most importantly the kids.

We will keep you up to date with a monthly Newsletter and let you know of any General Meetings that will be scheduled for everyone to be informed.

Thank you and we look forward to everyone’s cooperation in our new venture and can’t wait to see what the future holds for Canon McMillan Baseball.

Because it's more than a game

people ask, "why do you spend so much time playing with these kids?"
there are so many things i could say but the answer is -
because it's more than a game.
i sort through piles of old equipment
looking for a bat that still has some hit left in it.
working with worlds of different skills
i seek to improve without dispiriting,
to show a better way without losing their enthusiasm or joy.
because it's more than a game...
i utilize my own resources and provide
opportunity they have no other way to know.
i spend my time generously -
i know attention is the best gift i can give.
i teach team at the same time i inspire individual strength.
i celebrate the ball out of the park as sincerely as
the courage to pick up the bat.  it's the same thing.
i may leave the game but i will always be a coach.
i work so hard...
because it is more than a game.
it's a way of drawing out a talent
and inviting vision for the bigger fields of their days.
