Hurray, Please go on your marry little way. Maybe someday you can remove the blinders and see the world in some realistic way. You criticize me then run for cover you stupid moron. And for your information the last 3-years I've been to most of the booster meetings (granted not all) and not ONCE have I seen them say no to any of the funds they have requested. The only thing they can't do is write the check. You should go to Southeast I'm sure they could use your input with the excellent Baseball program they have. Good Rid-ens

This will be my last post on this board as I feel that this has turned into Mr. CubsFan69's personal vendetta against me just because I am a woman. My son has played baseball for the past 15 years and I have always loved the game since I played softball in high school. There were no high school girls teams back then. I played in the church leagues and then for college. I have always loved the game and watched it since I was at least 5 years old. We used to go to Atlanta to see the games and I was always at McKechnie to see whoever was there during spring. I also babysat for several of the Pirates when they were in town and all lived in the area during spring training. I do have a history in the sport and a love for the game. While it fun to verbally spar with someone of a different opinion I am tired of defending myself to this "gentleman". I graciously reliquish my space to someone else who can maybe get through to this person that numbers don't always matter in this game it is who you are as a person and are you a better person for playing and loving the game.

No, I do not have brain damage you just can't read. Yes I said they had to raise money this year, I did say it with a little more expansive vocabulary but since you seem not to be able to comprehend then I will put it more simply, the coaches have no control over that money only the Booster Club does. And that is what I have continuously said over the past days. And again you seem to persist in saying there are two American Legion teams (there may have been in the past, but in the last two years which is when Coach Strong has been there and that seems to be with whom you have a problem) there has only been one team. Over the last several years there were two teams from Manatee High that had nothing to do with the Legion team. The Legion team was entirely separate with the players that I mentioned from different schools and colleges. You seem to think you know what is going on at Manatee but I really do feel sorry for you in your efforts, you not only don't know what is currently going on (at least for the last two years) but have failed miserably to try to show that you do. And you say you have a child that has been there for the past 3 years. Is your child even on the baseball team? I seriously doubt that you have anyone on any of the teams because if you did you would know exactly what is going on or at least you should. As for me being a woman I want to know if you can stand up and be the "MAN" you imply you are and state your name and then we would know if you have a child on the team as you so adamatly implied in the fact that if your identity was known it would be taken out on your child. And I guess it is no coincidence that you respond the way you do since when anyone tries to email you the address is "dumass@aol.com" as in "dumbass" (an appropriate pseudonym I guess).

JSons Idiot, You must have brain damage! Look at Post #10 dated 5/9 1:58pm, Quote "Yes they had to raise money this year. But consider this" Blah-Blah "The current coaching staff has also made changes to the summer program for the players to give them chance to play out of the area in some really great tournaments and that's MORE EXPENSIVE than the previous years". ( your words ) My response on post #12 dated 5/14 10:24am was quote "I can remember these kids going to summer programs at UF, UM, USF etc. plus playing in the Florida State games and still playing American Legion". Your response post #13 dated 5/14 1:47pm quote "American Legion has nothing to do with Manatee High School". My response post #14 dated 5/14 12:00pm quote "If you had followed this team as long as I have you would know that we had 2-American Legion teams". Your response post#17 dated 5/17 11:10pm was quote " and you were not correcting me about the summer programs, you are just trying to change the direction of the comments because you were wrong". NOW MY RESPONSE: YOU ARE AN IDIOT! And I should know better to argue with a BRAINLESS NIMROD that has no clue as to what they are talking about. Go back to Changing diapers and playing house. For you just keep putting your foot in your mouth and showing at least to me that you have your head up your butt!

Mr. CubsFan69 are you trying to be subtle by calling me an expert at being a loser? And no I don't know more than you, I just take time to check my facts because I do put my name on those facts. And you were not correcting me about the summer programs, you are just now trying to change the direction of the comments because you were wrong. We weren't talking about the costs in the last couple of posts we were talking about the American Legion team. But if you want to talk about the costs question how much money was raised at the Steak Out. You need to be addressing that question to the Booster Club, Mr. Dan Molter and Mr. Bruce Braithwaite, they are the ones who would know the answer. The coaching staff has no connection to the funds except to put in a request, (i.e. for baseballs, supplies, etc.) that has to be approved by the Board of the Booster Club prior to receiving a check made payable to the vendor not the coaching staff or if an invoice has been provided that is marked paid then once it is approved then the individual is reimbursed. And now back to the issue of the last two seasons that may have been "losing seasons" that may be when you run in the numbers game but this year the team went farther than any team in several years. The season stats don't always show the whole picture considering it doesn't matter what the win/loss record is when it comes down to the end of the season and going for a state title. (Oh by the way just to let you know during Coach Strong's last two years at Sarasota they not only reached the state finals but won a state title.) And if, as you say "it is up to the parents to make sure the kids get a quality education and mentors they deserve" then when you judge a team "the numbers" shouldn't be "the only thing" you judge them and the coaching staff by.

Knowing the past 2- years with a losing record should make you an expert. I'm sorry if I offended you. You seem to know more than me since my child has only been here for 3. I was only correcting you about the summer program since we where comparing the cost's of the past summer programs to the present ( don't take much of a memory to recall what the past post's say ) all you have to do is scroll down and re-read the past messages. This coach has had 2-losing seasons in which I can't remember the last time that has happened at MHS. Just because the kid's like a coach doesn't make him a good coach. I realize kids know it all but it is up to us parents to make sure they get the quality education and mentors they deserve. Again has a baseball fanatic I stress to you to look at the numbers for that is the only thing you have to judge a team and it's coaching staff by. Unless of coarse you like losing.

Mr. CubsFan69 that was a pretty rude thing to say about me considering you don't know me. And I too graduated from Manatee High School and I have followed the sports at that school for many years. And yes I may not know as much about baseball as you think you obviously do but I do know about the last two years at Manatee High School, while Coach Strong has been the Head Coach. When I was speaking about the American Legion team I was speaking about the last two years and you can look up the roster (ie, Josh Strawn-MCC, Bobby Martin-Michigan, Bobby Dixon-Bayshore, Mike Ohlman-Lakewood Ranch and several other players from different schools) to see that I DO KNOW what I am talking about and you may want to check your facts before you critize me for not only being a woman but for not knowing what I am talking about.

MRS. JSons, This is why you don't see very many women involved with baseball. You speak like you know what your talking about when you don't have a clue! If you have followed this team as long as I have ( since I grad. from MHS in "83" ) You would know that we had 2- Am. Legion teams, 1- in the A-Division which is the same division Post-24 played in and 1 in the B- Division. So before you go opening your mouth you should make sure you know what your talking about (typical woman). 2nd as far as coaching goes there where a few good quality coaches that applied for the job. My personal choice would have been Rob Verra who went to St. Stephens, (Rob played 4-years at MHS before going on to play College and Professional Baseball). But there was a couple of others that applied that were just as qualified as he and would have been a better choice than a coach that has a conflict of interest IE:(5-Tools) not to mention his failed attempt to manage Booker or his tenure as Sarasota High's Batting Coach. Don't believe me? Take a look at S.H.S. Batting stats before and after his stint there and compare to when he was, the numbers speak for themselves. I realize that everyone has there own opinion, but you should be able to back-up your statements with FACTS. Again baseball is about numbers and it don't take a genius to compare Past and Present stats to see where this team is headed! Hope you learn to research the facts before you speak IE:" American Legion that has nothing to do with Manatee High School".

Mr. CubsFan69, I didn't post my email address as I had created my account along time ago and it has my office email on it. However everyone pretty much associated with the team knows my name and would recognize it by JSons, and it is Jessica Sons, I am not a Mr. I am a Mrs. Also the summer program you reference is the American Legion team that has nothing to do with Manatee High School and has been Coach Strongs responsibility for several years. That team is made up of players from, Manatee, Bayshore, Lakewood Ranch, Manatee Community College, a college in Michigan, and many other schools. And the other summer programs I can't speak much about since I really don't know where or when they happened since they didn't happen when my son was on the team. The only summer program he played was the county summer league which was comprised of only teams here in this county and then one summer league that was hosted by IMG. Just out of curiosity who would you suggest as a coach?

And who are you Mr. JSons with no e-mail? you my be leaving the program but we have another year to go and I wouldn't want this guy taking my opinion ( and yes we all have one ) and taking it out on my son. And if you think he wouldn't you haven't been paying to much attention the past 2 years. As far as for changing the summer program yes they did. But does it make it better? Who knows, because it surely didn't make a difference during the reg. season when it really counts. The teams summer program has always been the best in the county. I can remember these kids going to summer programs at UF, UM, USF, ect. plus playing in the Florida state games and still playing Am. Legion all summer. and as for Mark45 you are wrong. Go back and archive the past 5 seasons or so and you'll see this team has always played the top teams in the STATE during non-district games with the exception of a couple local teams. This team has consistently played below there ability the past 2 seasons ( poor defense and struggling at the plate ) and there is only 1 reason, COACHING STAFF! Why do you think this man was replaced at Booker? WAKE UP PEOPLE, look at the stats. That's how you judge a baseball team.

Congratulations to the boys for making it to Regionals. I believe the last time that happened was 2002. My son has played on varsity for 4 years and he has never payed a dime to play. I don't consider fund raising as paying to play. If you look at the District record the last two years you'll see that the team had a winning record. This year was 9-5. It could have been better but it was still okay. The coach schedules a very difficult out of District schedule to prepare the kids for the playoffs. A good won loss record does not always make you a good team. At the end of the season the team beat two of the best teams in the area. I don't believe any other coach in the area could have done a better job with the team. I can understand parents being upset if their child didn't get to play as much as they would have liked them to play. My child didn't play near as much as I wanted him to play, but that was between him and the coach. These boys are grown and it's long past time for their parents to be fighting their battles for them. Good luck next year!

I don't know who all the individuals are here are (Why won't you disclose your name?) that are so against the current coaches, but please take the time to consider what you are doing to the team and the players. They respect the coaches and play the best they can for them. There hasn't been a coach out there that everyone likes and so far we really haven't had time to see what this current coaching staff can accomplish, two years is not very long considering how long the past coaches have had to prove themselves and some never got as far as the current staff did this year. I really don't know who you are but the whole idea that it costs the players to play is really not quite right. Yes they had to help raise money this year. But consider this, the steakout this year I am sure did not raise even 1/2 half what it has raised in the past due to the current economy. The current coaching staff also has made changes to the summer program for the players to give them chance to play out of the area in some really great tournaments and that is more expensive than the previous years. I guess what I am getting down to saying is give people a chance or talk with them face to face and see what happens. Speculations and criticisms help no one and only casts suspicions on everyone. I am leaving the program this year with some very good memories and very good friends and I want to say thank you to them and the players, it has been an awesome year. Thank you, again.

It just goes to show that these coaches can't even read. If you think that everyone who has some criticism of you or your program hates you then your in the wrong profession. These guy's have their heads up their butts. This coach has done nothing but rape the players and parents of their money and time. Every time I asked how much money we made at the Steak-out I get nothing more than a run around about how the final figures are not in. This is nothing but highway robbery. I've heard that past Steak-outs have raised over $30,000.00 and we are still paying to play on this team. From my perspective these kids are playing no better than when we started the season, and there can be only 1 reason COACHING STAFF. I hope and pray that the athletic dept. reviews their past accomplishments and failures and address the cost for I fear this is nothing more than a ATM for them.

The only one talking hate is YOU! And yes you are right, the kid's did make it happen despite the coaching staff, (not to mention the fact that this Top pitcher did not have a good game) and if not for a blown call we lose 3-2. I set up this web-site and have monitored it since its inception and not once have I seen anyone blame the kid's. The only negative comments I've seen have been directed at the coaching staff's, administrators and others who have left posts on this site. Not that you might care but you should stop the reckless spending and not charge these Kids/Parents to play the H.S. season as they put enough effort into the steak-out that raises plenty of money to cover any expenses you might incur during this part of the year. The best thing that you could do is opening up a line of communication between the Coaching Staff, Parents and Fans. For as long as I have been going to these games (approx. 25 yrs. including the palma-sola years) that is probably the biggest contributing factor to these petitions that seem to circulate year after year to change the Coaching Staff's. You are by far not the 1st nor do I fear the last, as long as that "I know better than you attitude is conveyed". Whether you mean to or not silence or lack of communicating skills is and will continue to be the most damaging aspect of any of the past coaching staffs. I look forward to seeing MHS bring home a state title and will continue to support these kids as long as my health will allow. GOOD LUCK and GO CANES.

You can hate all you want, but the kids made it happen last night and guaranteed themselves a playoff spot by beating one of the top pitchers in the state. That's what it is all about anyway, the kids. Whether you have a good coach or bad, the kids are the ones that play the game and determine the outcome. Despite all the negative energy, these boy's stepped up and got the job done. Good work and continued successes in the state tournament.

Time to hold someone accountable.

Manatee's Baseball program continues to decline under the current coaching staff. The decision by our ex-principle Asher to take the Baseball team in another direction ( even though he was on his way out the door ) has accomplished just that as the boys of summer continue there steady decline, and for the 2ND straight season will finish the season without a winning record. A perfect example is our loss to Southeast this year which I believe hasn't happened in over 15 years. Even the JV has seemed to decline this past season, which was unheard of the last 10-years or more. What is even more disturbing is the fact that the coaching staff could care less what the parents and supporters have to say. They are apparently above addressing the concerns of the parents and supporters who have been the backbone of the program for years. Coach Melnick was able to establish a fundraising program which reduced the cost for players / parents not only for the regular season but also the summer program. Since then the program is now charging these kids not only for the summer program but also to play during the regular season ( was told by a friend that they charged these kids $400.00 to play ). This is nothing more than greed considering there is not a program in the county that comes close to the amount of money this team raises every year. I would like to know how much revenue increased at coach Strong's baseball facility since becoming head coach at Manatee. Until we as parents unite and demand change my fear is we will keep declining until we are the doormat of the county. If you are a parent or supporter of the program please sign and participate in the petition currently being passed around to reverse the direction this program has taken. Any comments please leave in the guestbook and I'll transfer it to the home page.

Baseball Program Censors Fans and Parents

In an effort to censor fans and parents the Baseball program has started another website to censor those who do not agree with them. This website will remain open for those of you who wish to discuss the Program and the plight of Manatee High School's athletic programs. Any noteworthy posts will be transfered from the guestbook or message board to the site-news page. Thank's,  Judy (Webmaster).
