COOL HATS!
If anyone is interested in offering their team hat embroidering, please get in touch with Dawn Rogers with Personal Expressions.
This is a great idea, especially for the younger kids since they're always getting their hats mixed up and it looks great too.  In accordance with Little League rules, everyone on the team has to agree to have it done. The cost for hats is $4 per hat to have their name put on the back.  50% of profit (approx 20% of the sales price) will be donated back to Canal. Also, no hats are allowed to have any embroidery that resembles a ball, bat or gloves...just names.  (Above is an example of what the hat would look like.)
*** IF YOUR TEAM IS DOING THIS, PLEASE GET WITH YOUR MANAGER AND GET THE HATS BEFORE HE/SHE GIVES THEM OUT TO THE KIDS!!

GAME CANCELLATION POLICY
The Canal Little League phone number is 834-0160.  In the case of questionable weather, please call this number or check 'My Site News' on our web page.  If games are cancelled, the phone and web site will be updated by 4 pm weekdays and 8 am on weekends.  If no message is on the phone or web page and you have not received a call from your manager, then please show up at the field at your scheduled time.
The following steps will be taken when calling games:  Each league officer makes a decision based on their individual fields.  If it is after 4:00 (weekdays) or 8:00 (weekends), then both participating managers will make a decision.  If the managers cannot agree then it goes to the umpires to make the decision.  The last persons in the chain of command at game time will be the umpires.  Once the umpire starts the game, he can then cancel the game for safety reasons if necessary.  All games will be made up in accordance with their league's policy.

TO ALL 2009 TEAM PARENTS...
Welcome to a new season...

We know the role of Team Parent is certainly an important one.  You are the link between the league administrators and the parents of the players on your team.  Being a team parent means you will get to be a part of your child's team.  Even better -- your child will get to see a real role model in action.

For those of you who have done this in the past, the following guide will give you reminders of some of the duties we’re asking for help with.  If you’re new at it, then the information here will help you become an excellent Team Parent.  It does take some work, but this is a volunteer league, so don’t be afraid to ask the other parents for help.  We’re all here to promote good sportsmanship, enjoy our kids’ games and have fun!

Please be sure to email Renee Gravell with your name, contact information, division and team name.  Thanks!

All team parents will be notified via email of any league happenings. It is each team parent’s responsibility to get this information to the parents of your players.

GET ORGANIZED!
Your first role as a team parent is to introduce yourself to your team.  Make yourself available.  Let the parents know that you’re there to provide information and answer any questions they may have.  Your second role is to try to stay organized.  Copy and distribute practice and game schedules.  Have a calendar available for event dates as well as extra game schedules on hand in case a parent has misplaced his/hers.  A good rule of thumb is to put the players name on all hand-outs so that you’re sure everyone gets a copy and there are no questions later.  Make sure you get all parents’ contact information, especially email addresses and cell phone numbers.

It’s also a good idea to create and pass out a team roster  that includes players and parents names with phone numbers.  This is important in case of snack or concession schedule changes or even carpooling.  Be sure you include each player’s uniform number on the roster next to their names.  This way,  everyone can cheer for the kids when they’re out on the field!

Contact information for all levels in the league can be found by clicking on the 2009 Committes page.  Please try to call or email the person that can best solve your issue.

Your responsibilities include. . .
Creating newsletters to be handed out to the parents communicating any information about league events, changes to schedules, updates on the new fields and news from any of the various committees in the league.  All of the info can be found on the website and specifically this page.  These handouts do not have to be fancy by any means.  We just need you to get the information out there!  Feel free to even forward emails you receive from me.

Taking care of the after game refreshments for your team.  Some teams decide to place team orders for the season and some decide to bring snacks themselves.  Team orders are $15 and include 15 snacks (hotdogs, pretzel or slices of pizza) and drinks.  You can either collect the money up front or as you go.  Whether you do team orders or your own snacks, you’ll need to make a schedule.

Coordinating your team’s participation in the Canal Day activities.  You’ll be responsible for asking for volunteers from your team and communicating this back to the chairman of that Committee.  It also includes getting your team to participate in the parade.  More news on Canal Day will be available soon.  Remind parents that working at Canal Day will go towards their volunteer work bond.

Make up a trash duty schedule.  It is each team’s job to clean up their trash after each game played.

Remind parents of their concession stand duty.  All parents will receive a concession schedule.  You may want to include your parents’ upcoming dates and times in your newsletters as a reminder.

Keep your parents in the loop about the New Fields campaign.  You will be receiving updates from the New Fields committee chairman, which will need to be passed on to the parents.  You may also want to designate someone else to take care of this task.

Coordinate Picture Day.  This basically means making sure your team gets to the field at the assigned time.  You will also distribute the photo packets when they come in.

If possible, attend monthly Open Parent/Open Board meetings.  These are very informal and the place where you'll get the latest info.

Set up a team subsite.  Our website has the capability for individual team sites.  This is optional, and if you're unable to do it, ask one of the parents on your team if they'd like to volunteer.

Take care of any end of season coach gifts and player trophies, if your team decides this is something they’d like to do.  And, if you’re up for it...coordinate an end of season party for your team.  Again, this is optional.

Attend the Awards Banquet in October if your team is a season or playoff champion team.

Help your team manager with any paperwork he/she may  request or with phone calls about changes to practices or games. Be your manager’s right hand!

You will be receiving general league information via email from me.  All of this information can always be found on the website as well...either on the homepage, or the Canal News page or here on the Team Parents page.  Other specific team news will come from your League Officer, or more likely, your Manager or Coach.  Your main responsibility as Team Parent is to pass on ALL information to the parents of the players on your team.

Please don't hesitate to ask other parents for help...remember, we're all in this together!  DO WHAT YOU CAN.  Your main job is to keep your parents informed.  Canal Little League wants to THANK YOU for your time and committment for making this season the best ever for the kids!
