Tuesday, June 26
The Calvert Hawks defeated RBI, 9-4 on Saturday 6/23. The game was played at Wrighton Road. It was the first of 2 games on the day for the Hawks, who also played in a Tournament over the weekend.
Hawks pitchers, Jake Cox, Matt Beyer and Bret Blevins held RBI to 5 hits and NO earned runs on the day. Defensively, The Hawks continue to struggle, committing 6 errors for the game. :-(
At the plate, the Hawks were efficient, scoring 9 runs on 7 hits. Tony Bowen and Vinnie Bowles went "yard." Bowles' homer was a grand slam. Other Hawks with hits were Ryan Chandlee, Tyler Walton, Jake Cox and Blevins, who hit a triple at the small Wrighton Road field.
Friday, June 22
The Calvert Hawks lost to the GGB Patriots 9-1 at Wrighton Road on Thursday, 6/21. The Patriots pounded out 12 hits including 3 Home Runs.
In a relief effort, pitcher Ronnie Plew pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up only 3 hits and striking out 6 Patriots. On the night, the Hawks committed 3 errors.
Offensively, the Hawks struggled against the Patriots pitching, striking out 13 times and managing only 1 hit by Tony Bowen.
Friday, June 22
The Hawks lost to the Lake Shore Baysox, 13-3, Wednesday, 6/20 at Chesapeake HS.
Seven Hawks had hits, including doubles by Tony Bowen and Vinnie Bowles. Bowen (2) and Bowles (1) had the only RBIs for the Hawks on the evening.
The Baysox had 8 hits on the night, including 1 home run. Defensively, the Hawks committed 4 errors.
Wednesday, June 20
The Calvert Hawks hit their way to victory over Harundale 15-4, in a 5 inning game Monday night. The start of the game was delayed because the visiting team was caught in a bad traffic jam.
The Hawks bats were ready and raring to go, wasting no time by jumping on Harundale early with big hits. Chris Gaines led the big hit barrage. The "Big Lefty" hit 2 home runs on the night. The first inning 2-run shot was one of the longest ever hit at Wrighton Road, landing in the top of the trees in center field. His second 2-run 'tater was an opposite field shot.
Twice, Vinnie Bowles hit the ball as far as possible without getting a HR. In the first inning, Bowles hit the top rail of the fence in right field, the ball bouncing back into play. He then flew out to the left fielder standing at the fence.
Bret Blevins had 2 hits, a double, and a walk off, 3-run homer in the 5th inning. Other Calvert players with multiple hits included: Bowles, Gaines, Matt Beyer, and Ronnie Plew. The team registered 15 hits on the night, their highest output of the season.
On the mound, Jake Cox started and pitched very well. He pitched 3 innings and only gave up 3 hits. Blevins pitched the final 2 innings, and was virtually unhittable. He struck out 4 and was credited with the win.
Next game, Wednesday at Chesapeake HS, against Lake Shore.
Sunday, June 17
An outstanding pitching performance by Matt Beyer, and 3 doubles were not enough to help the Hawks down the undefeated Severna Park "A." Leading by a run in the 6th inning, Severna Park showed why they are on top of the league, by hitting a home run to tie the game and then hitting a one out triple in the bottom of the 7th that eventually led to the game winning run. Beyer pitched 5 2/3 innings, striking out 4 and walking only 1.
Offensively, 3 doubles and 5 singles were all the Hawks earned at the plate. Vinnie Bowles smashed 2 to left field and Ryan Chandlee tomahawked one to center field. Both batters earned RbIs for their efforts. Other RBIs were by Tyler Walton and Matt Beyer.
Next up is Harundle at Wrighton Road on Monday 6/18.

Sunday, June 17
The Calvert Hawks defeated the Kingston Royals 5-3 on Friday evening in what was one of the most competitive games of the year.
The 2 starting pitchers of the game, Bryan McHale (Hawks) and Any Stallings (Royals) both pitched outstanding games. In the end, the Hawks best defensive effort of the year and a solo Home Run by Bret Blevins made the difference in the game.
Pitching and defense was the key for the Hawks. McHale earned the win by pitching 5 innings, giving up only 5 hits, striking out 4, and walking none. Ryan Chandlee earned the save by finishing the game for Calvert. Defensively, Calvert committed no errors and turned 2 double plays to help the cause. Billy Gaines made a nice diving catch in certerfield to end an inning.
Offensively, the Hawks had 6 hits including Blevins' Bomb. Tyler Walton hit 2 singles and was the only Hawk with more than 1 hit.
Friday, June 15
The Calvert Hawks suffered their 2nd loss of the Mickey Mantle Season, falling to Bowie #1 10-7, on Wednesday Night.
The Hawks managed only 7 hits and committed 5 errors on the night. For the 2nd game in a row, Calvert had a 1st inning home-run. Vinnie Bowles crushed a 2-run "tater" that landed high in the trees in centerfield. Ryan Chandlee was the only Hawk with multiple hits (single and double). Other hits were hit by, Matt Beyer, Vince McHale, Chris Gaines and Jake Cox.
Next up, the Hawks play 2 games in 2 days starting with a Friday night home game against the Kingston Royals, followed by a Saturday away game vs. Severna Park "A" at Kinder Park.
Monday, June 11
The Calvert Hawks earned their 3rd win of the Mickey Mantle Season by defeating the PG Stars, on Friday, 6/8. The Hawks plated 17 runs while only registering 8 hits. Spencer Wolfe cracked a Grand Slam in the first inning to put the home team ahead to stay. Tony Bowen also went deep with a 2-run HR later in the game. Vince McHale was the only other Hawk with multiple RBIs. Matt Beyer, Bret Blevins, Ryan Chandlee and Jake Cox contributed with RBIs. Six different players had stolen bases on the day.
Starter Matt Beyer pitched 3 solid innings, allowing only 2 hits and notching 3 strike-outs. Bryan McHale and Jake Cox finished the job on the mound.
The game ended with wonderful , Brooks Robinson-like play, by 3rd baseman Chris Gaines. Gaines made a diving snag of a hard ground ball and then threw a strike to first, ending the game after 4 1/2 innings.
Next up, the Hawks continue their extended home stand with a 6pm game on June 11 against Bowie #1. Come out and cheer on the BIG BLUE!!!!
Friday, June 8
The Hawks suffered their 1st loss of the Mickey Mantle Season on June 6, at the hand of Severna Park #2. "The Park" pitchers scattered 7 hits over the afternoon. Some sloppy play by the Hawks didn't help the cause. 3 errors contributed to the 5-9 loss.
7 different players got hits for the Hawks. Bryan "B Mac" McHale went yard early, notching his 1st home run of the season, a solo shot.
Next game is against the PG Stars, at home, on Friday June 8. BRING YOUR BUG SPRAY!!!
Monday, June 4
The Calvert Hawks improved to 2-0 with a 19-7 win over Bowie #2 on June 2. Calvert banged out 14 hits, including 4 triples, on the day. Chris Gaines led the triple barrage by hitting 2, one to both right and left center field. Vinnie Bowles and Matt Beyer had the other 2. Players with multiple hits were: Bowles (4 RBIs), Bret Blevins (Single and Double), Corey Smetana (2 Singles) and Bryan McHale (2 Singles). Matt Beyer earned the win pitching 2 innings.
Tuesday, June 5
The following changes have been made to the 2007 Hawks Schedule:
The rain out of June 4 game, vs. Broadneck, has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 30 at 1pm. The Monday, June 11th game, vs. Pasadena, has been moved to Saturday, June 30 at 10am. Yes, the Hawks will play a home doubleheader on that day!!!!
The Saturday June 9 away game v. Chesapeake has been moved to Wednesday, July 11, 6pm at Spalding HS.
Sunday, June 3
The Hawks opened the season with an 8-1 victory against RBI on Wednesday. Pitcher Ronnie Plew started and earned the victory with 4 solid innings, racking up 5 strikeouts, while allowing only 1 run. Matt Beyer relieved Plew and dominated RBI, striking out 3 and giving up no hits over 2 innings. Bryan McHale earned the save with a clean final inning.
Offensively, the Hawks had 8 hits with only Tony Bowen getting more than 1.
Tuesday, May 29
The Calvert Hawks finished 2-2 in the recent Memorial Day Tournament. The 2 newest Hawks had important roles in the victories. Vincent McHale's diving web gem in left field helped the Hawks keep the lead and open the tournament with a win. Tony
Bowen's relief pitching helped steady the ship and allow the rest of the team to fight back from a 1st inning deficit.
The season opener is Wednesday night against RBI at Southern HS. Details to follow.
