Our mission is to prepare each of our players for success at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. This is accomplished by mentoring our players on the finer skills of the game and providing the opportunity to play against the best local, regional and national competition available. This proven formula for success is validated by the number of former California Rockies players that have gone on to successful careers at the collegiate and professional levels.

Josh Leyland Drafted by Oakland A's
After showing his talent at the Power Showcase in Florida and leading his team to a CIF-SS division IV championship, Josh Leyland from San Dimas High School was drafted in the 16th round by the Oakland A's. Josh has a scholarship with Washington State, but will sign with the A's. Read More>>>

Brian Gump Drafted By Phillies
Brain Gump, an outfileder for UC Santa Barbara, was drafted in the 26th round (797 overall) by the Philladelphia Phillies. Gump led the Gauchos with 76 hits in the season with a .318 batting average in 2008. Read More>>>

California Rockies' Players in Inland Valley HS All-Star Game
Rockies Joel Licon (Diamond Ranch HS), Chris Carlson, Matt Lowenstein and Adam Hurley (all from Chino Hills HS) participated in the 2009 Inland Valley High School All-Star Game. The game was played on 6/7/09 with the North team wining 14 - 5. All four players as well as the California Rockies were featured in a recent article in the Daliy Bulletin describing the friendships players from different high schools develop while playing on travel or club baseball teams (to read the article click here).

Brice Cutspec Named NAIA 1st Team All-American and GSAC Player of the Year
After a record breaking season, former California Rockies player Brice Cutspec was named a 2009 NAIA 1st Team All-American. This is in addition to Brice having already been named the Golden State Athletic Conferences' Player of the Year. These honors capped off a season in which Brice broke Azusa Pacific University's single season home run record by being the first player in school history to crack the 30 home run barrier. Brice also had 183 total bases and an .880 slugging percentage, both just shy of APU's single seasn records of 191 total bases and an .889 slugging percentage. Brice now holds APU's career records for home runs (61) and RBIs (212).

Matt Weston's Contract Purchased by the Houston Astros
The contract of former California Rockies player Matt Weston was purchased today by the Houston Astros. Matt had been playing 1B for the Sussex Skyhawks in the CanAm League where he was batting .391. Matt , a Chino Hills resident, will now be playing much closer to home as he will be assigned to the Lancaster Jethawks, Houston's High Class A affiliate in the California League.

Hollinger Named to Big South Conference's All Conference 2nd Team
Former California Rockies catcher Erroll Hollinger was named to the Big South Conference's All Conference - Second Team. Erroll was also named to the conference's All Academic Team. These honors capped a season in which Erroll hit .327 with 8 home runs and 35 RBIs for the Liberty Flames while playing in all 54 of the Flames' games.

Richie Jimenez Signs with UNLV
Former California Rocky Richie Jimenez has signed a scholarship offer with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Richie played the last two seasons for Riverside CC , leading the team in hitting in 2009 with .347 average. Richie also had a .951 fielding percentage as the team's starting shortstop.

California Rockies Lowenstein, Carlson and Licon Sign Letters of Intent
Lowenstein Licon Carlson
California Rockies' Chris Carlson, Matt Lowenstein and Joel Licon each signed letters of intent to play baseball at major NCAA Division I colleges in southern California. Lowenstein of Chino Hills HS and Licon of Diamond Ranch HS both signed with Loyola Marymount, while Carlson, also of Chino Hills HS, signed with UC Irvine.
From the LMU Lions web site:
"Lowenstein is a 6'3" 200-pound left-handed hitter from Chino Hills High School. Described by the LMU coaching staff as a "multi-dimensional player who has the ability to play any of the infield positions and all three outfield spots," he could be used in a variety of roles for the Lions next season. Last season, Lowenstein batted .380 with four home runs and 14 RBI. "[Lowenstein] runs a 6.8 and plays the game with a hard-nosed, `blue collar' attitude," Keehn said. "
"Licon enters his final year at Diamond Ranch High School after helping the team to the CIF Championship game last season. A 5'9" 165-pound middle-infielder, he batted .359 in 21 games in 2008. According to Keehn, "Joel has a real good feel for the game and is a very hard worker. Like the other two players in this recruiting class, he comes to the field ready to play and get better every day, and we look forward to him joining the squad next season."

"Chris Carlson (Chino Hills/HS) helped his team to the Sierra League championship in 2008. The outfielder earned All-CIF first-team honors last season and was also tabbed All-Inland Valley, all-league and all-state after hitting .340 with 57 hits. Carlson belted 14 doubles, four triples and nine home runs as a junior."
The Rockies congratulate all three players and look forward to following their careers at the collegiate level.

Langwasser Awarded Cory Lidle Memorial Tournament College Scholarship

As winners of the 2007 Cory Lidle Memorial Tournament championship, the Rockies were awarded a $500 college scholarship, which they could then award to a high school player of their choice. In recognition of his contributions to the success of the Rockies and also his contributions to Chino Hills HS first Sierra league championship, Kenny Langwasser was selected by Rockies coach Randy Kapano and Chino Hills HS coach Kyle Billingsley to receive the scholarship. This capped a fantastic year for Kenny in which he hit a walk off grand slam home run to clinch the league championship for Chino Hills HS and was also named All Sierra League 2nd Team . Kenny is currently enrolled at Saddleback College where he will be playing infield for the Gauchos.

Pat Breen Signed by the LA Angels
Former California Rockies and 2008 Orange County Flyers player Pat Breen, 2008 Golden Baseball League MVP, has signed with the LA Angels of Anaheim. The following was copied from the OC Flyers web site:
" (Dublin, CA. October 14, 2008) The Golden Baseball League (GBL) announced today that Orange County Flyer outfielder Patrick Breen has had his contract purchased by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. This continues an outstanding off-season for Breen as he has been named Golden Baseball League MVP, selected to the Baseball American All-Indy First Team and Top Prosepects List, and named Baseball America's Independent Leagues Player of the Year in the last month. "

Shawn Wooten Announces Retirement
Former California Rockies player Shawn Wooten recently announced his retirement as an active player. Shawn completed his playing career as the catcher for the Portland Beavers, the Triple A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. From 2000 - 2005, Shawn played six seasons in the major leagues for the Angels, Phillies and Red Sox. His best regular season was with the Angels in 2001 when he batted .312, with 8 HR's and 32 RBI's in 221 AB's. However, the highlight of Shawn's career was playing on the Angels' world championship team in 2002. Shawn batted .474 in the 2002 postseason, third best among all hitters in the playoffs, with five runs scored and one homerun, which came in the decisive Game 4 of the ALDS. Shawn plans to transition from player to coach and is currently discussing coaching opportunities with several major league teams including the Mets, Angels and Padres.

Rockies 17U Reach Don Mattingly World Series Finals!
2008 Don Mattingly World Series Finalists
For the second year in a row, the Rockies’ 17U team reached the finals of the Don Mattingly World Series only to fall in the championship game. Even though the Rockies fell just short of the championship they had hoped to capture this year, the 17U team had a very successful post-season run. This included winning the Don Mattingly California State championship, which qualified the team to advance to the Don Mattingly World Series.
