Jeff King: From Cupertino American to the Major Leagues
While the Miller Major baseball diamond may seem a long way from Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, and Wrigley Field, Cupertino American Little League alum Jeff King proved that big league dreams can come true. Jeff King was an outstanding player in CALL in the late 1970s, and attended Stichter Elementary and Miller Middle School. Jeff is remembered as being a highly skilled catcher, pitcher and hitter and fierce competitor for the 1977 CA Major division champion, the Orioles. Jeff moved away from the area after 7th grade season but, years later, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates as the very first pick of the 1986 draft. Jeff had an eleven year major league career as a third baseman with the Pirates and Kansas City Royals, hitting 154 career home runs and twice knocking in over 100 runs in a season. Jeff was listed as one of one of the top one thousand baseball players of all time in Derek Gentile's Baseball's Best 1,000. Jeff's salary in his last two seasons was reported to be $4,000,000 per year! Click here for Jeff's complete career statistics. Click here for a photo of Jeff King in action with the Pirates. Jeff King...the first Cupertino American Little League player to make it to the Major Leagues. Who will be the next?
