"I'm a team player. I play with my friends and with some of my enemies, but I respect everyone when it comes to my sport.   I know I'm not going to get a multi-million dollar contract to play professionally. I know I may not even get my name in the paper.    I play for the love of the game, for the pride and honor, for the blood, sweat and tears it takes to make the team, to earn the spot, to win the game.   I play because I can; I play because I know that my life would be empty without the sport I play.    I would have a lack of everything my sport gives me...integrity, courage, talent, fearless, pride strength, stamina, will and the heart of a champion.   I know what it is like to lose, to win, to want to quit, to want to cry, to not want to get up.    I know what it is like to hear the cheers and yells for you.   I know what it is like to feel the pressure of everyone on your shoulders and I know what it is like to choke under that pressure. I know what it means to be an athlete, a true player, and that it is why I play. I am an athlete, a champion, a true player."

A Special Word From 2008 California Flames Gold Parents

"Hi Linda,

We miss you! Juan and I often talk about what a wonderful mentor you have been to Jess. If it hadn't been for you, she would not be where she is.  I want you to know that although we didn't (and don't!) show it much, we greatly appreciate all you have done (and continue doing!) for her and for us. You have been a very important part of our lives and I hope you will continue to be. We will hold you dear in our hearts forever. You've got your spot marked in heaven for all you do for others. We love you, Linda.

Sincerely,

Veronica and Juan Duarte"

A Special Word From 2007 California Flames Gold Parents

"Hi,

Brody and I have enjoyed being a part of the Flames Organization. Each of you have made our brief stay with the Flames very special. Thanks for your time and effort and dedication to Dawn and the other Flames players. I hope they realize how important each of your are in your softball roles. You all have great chemistry and should continue to work as a coaching team. The Flames Organization has much to offer high school girls and you all do a great service to them and the Burbank Community, as well as, the surrounding areas. We will keep in touch with you all. Dawn is not quite ready to say a final good-bye yet. She will fight to the end to attend games and practices and we will support her decision to practice and play with you till the end. So she will be at practice this coming Wed. Again our heartfelt thanks on jobs well done.........you will be in our hearts, thoughts and prayers while we take another journey. We hope to see you at a UCR game. I think they will have a good year. Dawn gets to keep her number 13 into UCR. We thought the number was taken by another Junior, however, she is either not going to play or switched her number as a UCR senior player.

Again,thanks....Rose and Brody Brodersen"

 "Hello Linda!

Mal and I had a great day on the Trinity campus. The staff was excited that we came. The campus is in a residential setting and is beautiful. MALLORY HAS OFFICIALLY ACCEPTED THEIR OFFER TO PLAY SOFTBALL AND HER APPLICATION HAS BEEN ACCEPTED. She moves in on August 24th. The team will play fall-ball for about 5 weeks in the fall. Remember, the coach had not met Mal, nor has she seen her play. So we had a small workout with two of the softball seniors. Mal threw the ball around and then hit the batting cage. (all this was in the gym as the field is being worked on) There was a bit of nervous time for us... However, I must tell you what the coach said after seeing Mallory. She was thrilled at her mechanics--especially throwing. She had the other girls watch Mal, as she reported that Mal's mechanics are the proper technique and the way that she coaches. In the cage, she said much of the same. She told me that Mallory has obviously been coached well--good job Flames coaches! She is excited to have her! We are not sure where she will play--probably somewhere in the infield. The school is excited as Mal is one of three girls recruited from southern California. They will be making a big deal about this on the front page of their website. This should happen soon, I'll keep you posted. Flames Coaches, Thanks for all for your efforts. They paid off for Mal.

Matt Stemme"

"Linda

Hi!  How are you.  I’ve looked for you guys at some tournaments we’ve been at, but you’ve been on different fields.

I wanted to share our good news with you.  Wendy has been accepted at Cornell University .  She is still deciding if she wants to play softball, Coach Blood has offered her a position.  She just went ahead, applied early decision and got accepted.

Thank you so much for everything you did for Wendy last summer.  I only wish she had played with your team from a younger age.  You have a terrific organization.

Keep in touch, and I’ll keep looking for you.

Sandra Odell"
