John Coffey Scholarship Award
The John Coffey Scholarship Award is an annual award established in 1997 by Earlene Coffey to honor two volunteer umpires in District 31 who by their effort, respect and dedication, reflect the teachings of the former District 31 Umpire in Chief, the late John Coffey.
John continued, after years of service, to seek improvement for himself, and by teaching or by example, those who sought his advice. This scholarship award seeks to perpetuate the advancement of that dedication, respect and commitment John epitomized each and every time he umpired.
An award is presented to one youth and one adult umpire from any level of Little League Baseball. Award committee members Earlene Coffey, Mark Bernstein and Tom Marshall make final determination.
Each honoree will receive tuition to the Umpire School at Western Region Headquarters (located in San Bernardino, CA), a complete set of plate gear with uniform and a plaque commemorating their recognition.
Recipients are announced at the District 31 Major All Stars Championship game.
