Happy Fathers Day From The Calgary Wolfpack Football Club!

The 2006 AFL AGM was held Saturday & Sunday in Edmonton. The agenda was quite full. The Calgary Wolfpack Football Club would like to welcome the AFL's newest expansion team, the Edmonton Seahawks. The AFL council denied the applications of the Calgary Thunder & Lloydminster Mavericks to play for the 2006 season. Another potential expansion team, the Airdrie Prairie Dogs withdrew their application on Friday. As a result, the AFL will be fielding 9 teams for this season. The tentative 2006 Wolfpack schedule is now posted under the Schedules link. Seven Bylaw ammendments were debated at the meeting with 6 of them being adopted and the seventh being tabled until the Pre-Season meeting pending some rewording. We believe that the AFL is the strongest it's ever been! We look forward now to an exciting 2006 AFL season!

Another Wolfpack/Thunder Classic!

McMahon Stadium was the stage for another installment in the Wolfpack/Thunder rivalry on Friday night! The dislike the two teams have for each other was evident from the outset! It turned into a wild affair, with the Wolfpack holding on to win 38-31!

The Wolfpack Offence did not play up to it's usual standards but there were some outstanding efforts! QB Darryl Leason was held to 22 of 39 passing, 338 yds & 3 TD's. Having his best game since returning this season, SB Mike Williamson caught 8 passes for 194 yds & 2 TD's! WR Stephen Mclean hauled in 6 passes for 60 yds & also was a perfect 5 for 5 on XP's & kicked a 27 yard FG!

When the Offence stalled, the Defence came up with some timely stops & turnovers! LB Stephen Bender led all players with 7 tackles! LB Jason Grech added 5 tackles & LB Jason Novakowski had 4 tackles & 1 sack! CB Kenny Watt had a huge game with 6 tackles & 1 INT, which he returned 75 yards for a TD!

The win moves the Wolfpack to 7-0 & clinches at least 2nd place in the standings and a first round bye in the AFL playoffs! The Wolfpack will now enjoy a much needed bye week & get ready to face the Calgary Gators on Sunday August 15th, 3:30pm at the Calgary Rugby Union.

Goodbye Sweet Lady!!

It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing today of Hazel Mosca. Hazel is the mother of Wolfpack OL Frank Mosca & has been a vocal supporter of the Pack for years! She wanted everyone on the team to call her mom! Over the years, she has been a gracious hostess to numerous Wolfpack BBQ's & celebrations! She made anyone who came to her home feel like family!! None of us will ever forget her fanatical support of the team & the sound of that "Wolfpack Cowbell" echoing through McMahon Stadium on a summers afternoon!! Gob bless you "Mom"!

Service arrangements will be announced shortly.

"PASSING away, saith the World, passing away:
Chances, beauty and youth sapp'd day by day:
Thy life never continueth in one stay.
Is the eye waxen dim, is the dark hair changing to gray
That hath won neither laurel nor bay?
I shall clothe myself in Spring and bud in May:
Thou, root-stricken, shalt not rebuild thy decay
On my bosom for aye.
Then I answer'd: Yea.

Passing away, saith my Soul, passing away:
With its burden of fear and hope, of labour and play,
Hearken what the past doth witness and say:
Rust in thy gold, a moth is in thine array,
A canker is in thy bud, thy leaf must decay.
At midnight, at cockcrow, at morning, one certain day,
Lo, the Bridegroom shall come and shall not delay:
Watch thou and pray.
Then I answer'd: Yea.

Passing away, saith my God, passing away:
Winter passeth after the long delay:
New grapes on the vine, new figs on the tender spray,
Turtle calleth turtle in Heaven's May.
Though I tarry, wait for me, trust me, watch and pray.
Arise, come away; night is past, and lo, it is day;
My love, my sister, my spouse, thou shalt hear me say--
Then I answer'd: Yea."

Wolfpack Devours Razorbacks!!

The Calgary Wolfpack juggernaut rolled into McMahon Stadium on Fathers Day & right over the Calgary Razorbacks 57-7! QB Darryl Leason followed up last weeks record setting performance with another strong outing. Leason finished 32 of 49, 531 yds & 5 TD's. Most impressive was the distrubution of the ball! No less than 13 different receivers caught a pass on the afternoon! Leading the receiving corps was SB Mike Leason 8-220 & WR Hugues Audet 4-109, 2TD's. Also catching TD's were FB Jason Novakowski, FB Matt Squires, WR Brett Stevens & DB/WR Kenny Watt. Teamwork was the phrase of the day on the ground as well, with 7 ball carriers adding 113 rushing yards. Leading the way, impressive rookie RB Rod Bailey 8-57 & RB Sean Ingram 6-37. QB Darryl Leason & FB Matt Squires both scored rushing TD's!

Determined to improve their performance from last week, the Wolfpack Defence dominated the Razorbacks! The defence combined for 8 sacks, 4 INT's, 14 tackles for loss & 1 forced fumble! Leading the charge was DE Scott Mitchell 5.0 tkls, 2.5 sacks! & DT Ryan Bellerose 3.5 tkls, 1.0 sack! DB Rob Sakires pitched in as well with 2.5 tkls & 2 INT's!

Wolfpack survives a scare!

The Calgary Wolfpack made the long journey North on Saturday to tangle with the expansion Grande Prairie Drillers. A combination of "bus lag", missing 16 players & a very tough Drillers team led to the toughest game of the year! When all was said & done, the Wolfpack held on for a 56-41 victory!

The Wolfpack offence had no problem controlling the game, putting up over 750 yards in total offence. Once again QB Darryl Leason fired away at will, finishing 41 of 54, 536 yds, 6 TD's & 1 INT. Brother Mike Leason was on the end of 12 of those passes for 178 yds & 3 TD's! WR Brett Stevens had 2 receptions for 93 yds & 2 TD's. Having a breakout game was RB Rod Bailey. Rod had 154 yds rushing on 11 carries, with 2 TD's, one a 55 yard scamper to seal the win! Rod also caught 8 passes for another 77 yds!

The defence had some problems early stopping a surprising Drillers offence, but regrouped in the 2nd half. Leading the way were LB's Jason Novakowski (7.5 tkls) & Gomeya Cooper (6.5 tkls) & S Joey Whelen (6.0 tkls).

The Wolfpack will now focus on this weekends match-up with the tough Red Deer Buccaneers, Sunday July 18th, 4:30pm at McMahon Stadium.

Wolfpack Getting Ready For A Gator Hunt!

Our first playoff opponent has been decided & it will be the Calgary Gators. The Gators beat the Grande Prairie Drillers in dramatic fashion on Sunday scoring the winning TD with :09 seconds left in the game. The Wolfpack will host the Gators in one AFL Semi-Final:

McMahon Stadium
Admission: $5.00 (Children under 12 free)

The other AFL Semi-Final will see the Red Deer Buccaneers travel to Edmonton to take on the Stallions!

Gator Skins Anyone?

The Calgary Wolfpack Football Club, surviving a shaky first half, came back to blow the Calgary Gators out of the water 63-34 on Sunday afternoon. Leading the charge was rookie RB Rod Bailey who posted a Wolfpack record 172 yds rushing & 2 TD's! Rod also lead all receivers with 5 catches for 45 yds! QB Darryl Leason struggled with INT's in the first half but came back strong to finish with some decent numbers. Leason was 25 of 49, 420 yds, 5 TD's & 5 INT's. WR Hugues Audet had 4 rec, 111 yds & 1 TD, while SB Mike Leason had 4 rec, 107 yds & 1 TD.

Much the same as the offence, the defence also came back strong in the 2nd half, allowing only 1 TD after the break. Leading the way was LB Gomeya Cooper with 6.5 tkls, 2 for loss, 1 INT & 2 blocked converts!! Also snagging INT's on the night were CB Robb Sherman, S Howard Gardener, HB Joey Whelen & HB Rob Sakires with two! CB Kenny Watt had a great afternoon returning punts with on 176 yds on 5 returns, his longest being a 75 yarder!!

The win sets up a showdown between the 10-0 Wolfpack & the 9-1 Stallions for the AFL Championship. The game will take place on Saturday September 18, 7:30pm, McMahon Stadium, Calgary.

The Pack Storms The Hat!

The Calgary Wolfpack stormed into Medicine Hat on Saturday night and ate up the Marauders 70-0! For a change, the Defence & Special Teams took the point in this charge! As a team, the Wolfpack grabbed no less than 8 INT's! Setting a Wolfpack record was CB Robb Sherman who nabbed 3 INT's, one of which he returned 37 yds for a TD! Rookie HB Rob Sakires continued his strong play with 2 more INT's, one of which he returned 23 yds for a TD! HB Joey Whelen & LB's Graham Kersch & Jason Grech also grabbed picks! When the Marauders weren't throwing, LB Gomeya Cooper was tracking down ball carriers, finishing with 9 tackles, including 4.5 for loss, & 1 sack! In the 4th quarter, RB Sean Ingram, playing DE!, picked up a fumble & returned it 50 yds for another defensive score! On the Marauders one and only kickoff, WR Hugues Audet broke upfield for a 101 yd TD return!

While not as sharp as usual, the Wolfpack Offence still managed to score 6 TD's of their own! QB Darryl Leason finished 18 of 35, 267 yds & 5 TD's. His targets on the night were SB Mike Leason (9, 6), WR Hugues Audet (49), RB Rod Bailey (38) & FB Matt Squires (8). Leason also added a TD on the ground.

Complete game stats can be found at the link below.

Next up for the Wolfpack will be the Grande Prairie Drillers. The Pack will be making the long trip North on Saturday July 10, gametime 6:00pm.

Playoff Game vs. Calgary Gators

Due to the severe lack of suitable fields in Calgary we are forced to play our Semi-Final game against the Gators in Strathmore. Gametime will be 5pm, Sunday September 23, at the Old Strathmore High School. Locker rooms will be available at 3pm.

This evening, the Calgary Thunder withdrew from the National Championship game in Ontario. THEY CAN'T FIELD A TEAM. They only have 7 players that can go. Apparently they were relying on some sponsorship that fell through. Since this occurred I have spent the last 4 hours in conference calls with the Thunder, Gators, Oakville Longhorns, NFC President, CSFL President Barry Wall, Football Alberta and Football Canada. As a result of the discussions that have taken place, the Calgary Wolfpack have been invited to represent the AFL in the National Championship.

The Thunder & the Gators are unable to travel to Burlington. Both of these teams have sanctioned the Wolfpack representing the West. The winner of the October 14th game will be recognised as Senior Football NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!. This has been confirmed by the CSFL, AFL, NFC, & Football Canada!

Look, I can't explain why the Thunder & Gators can't or won't go. Maybe they are poor I don't know and don't care. THIS IS FOR A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!! We have been fortunate enough to win a National Title in 1999 & through a strange set of circumstances, we have been given an unexpected chance to compete for one again. We have been given a second chance! Yes, we lost to the Gators, but we all know that the team that lost on September 23 was not the real Wolfpack!! We have been given another chance to show the world the real Wolfpack! We have a chance to compete against the best team in the country! This is a chance to erase the disappointment of 2 1/2 weeks ago and WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!! This is what we play for!!!!

There is so much on the line here. I am not bull ***ting you guys here. Everything I tell you next is the truth. If we can't travel to this game, the CSFL will die!! Ontario will not want to have anything to do with a National League. Interest will die. The Thunder & Gators do not understand this! The NFC & Oakville Longhorns have invested considerable time & money into hosting this game. If it were to fall through, the results for the CSFL will be catastrophic!!! If we ever want to get Senior Football taken seriously in Canada, we have to field our team. We have to clean up the mess left by others. WE NEED YOU TO COME TO ONTARIO TO PLAY IN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!

I could list off a thousand reasons why you can't go and why this sucks:
8 days notice
We didn't "Earn It"
I'm poor

THIS IS FOR A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! I would crawl over broken glass to Ontario to play!! I am going, my flight is booked! I am a team of one. I need help. I need for the Wolfpack to put aside any negative feelings from the last game. I need the Wolfpack to make any sacrifices required to play in this game. This is what football is about, playing for a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!

Travel arrangements can still be made. Tonight, Westjet still has fares to Hamilton for $352 return. Canada 3000 tickets can still be purchased to Toronto for $340. If you look hard enough can probably find a better deal than that. You could get a group together and drive down. Hell you can hitchhike if you want, just tell me you can get down there! THIS IS FOR THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!! Do what you need to do to come up with the money! I wish that I could tell you that I could pay your way. I wish I could tell you that the Wolfpack can pay your way. I can't. I can tell you that I will try to find any and all sponsorship I can scrape up in the next 8 days. If you know any one or any company that can help, give them my number. Anything we can roundup will help $5.00 or $500.00! You need to come up with something on your own. Max out your credit cards, take out a loan, beg your parents, whatever you need to do. WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO WIN OUR 2ND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!!

If any of you need more incentive, this is what the NFC has arranged for the October 14th game:
This game is being TELEVISED in the Hamilton/Toronto area. That is over 6 Million people that could see YOU playing football on TV!

TSN has agreed to run a "Wrap-Up" of the game on Sports Center, NATIONALLY!!!

ADDIDAS Canada is considering a proposal from Barry Wall for a CSFL National Sponsorship Package. The President & Marketing Staff of ADDIDAS CANADA will be at the game.

Ontario Premier Mike Harris has accepted the Longhorns Invitation to attend the game! He may even present the trophy! (This one is know ***, check out the Longhorns website, there is a picture in there of the Longhorns at the Legislature after their Championship last year!)

Toronto Argonaut Head Coach Mike "Pinball" Clemons will be doing the opening coin toss.

The proceeds from the gate are going to CHILD FIND ONTARIO. They are expecting 3000-5000 spectators for the game.

The Toronto Sun, Toronto Star, Hamilton Spectator will all be covering the game. These are the largest newspapers in the country!

The bottom line is that they have done a lot of work down there to make this a "Showcase" game. This is a chance to display the WOLFPACK on a truly National level!

Now that the playoffs are set?

Coyotes @ Wolfpack

The Coyotes & Wolfpack tangled twice during the regular season. In the season opener, the Wolfpack had little trouble & ran away with the game 42-13. The second matchup 3 weeks ago was a completely different story that saw the Coyotes come out fighting & the Wolfpack come out flat! The game turned into a defensive battle with the Wolfpack hanging on for a close 21-14 victory!

Without doubt, the key matchup in this game is the Wolfpack arial assault against an impressive Coyotes secondary. The Wolfpack passing game is led by the tandem of QB Darryl Leason & brother SB Mike Leason. Darryl finished up the regular season with 2898 yards & 33 TD's! Mike Leason led all Wolfpack receivers with 50 receptions for 1124 yards & 12 TD's! Not to be outdone, the rest of the Wolfpack receivers had great seasons as well, WR Stephen Mclean (31-376-4TD), WR Scott Sargent (21-340-2TD), SB Terry Eldridge (23-319-4TD) & rookie SB Brett Stevens (12-246-3TD). If that wasn't enough for the Coyotes to worry about, veteran WR Hugues Audet returned to the team late in the regular season!

Tasked with the formidable job of shutting down this explosive offence is a pretty good Coyotes secondary. The Coyotes are led by AFL All Star HB Leigh Casey who finished tied with the Wolfpack's Joey Whelen for the AFL INT lead with 6! In addition to his skills at HB, Leigh is an impressive kickoff & punt returner. His partner in the Coyotes secondary is CB AJ Tedrick who snagged 4 INT's this season. Are they up to task? We'll find out on September 6th!

Game time, 8:00pm, Sat Sept 6, McMahon Stadium Calgary

All Good Things Must Come To An End........

The Calgary Wolfpack Football Club met the Milton Marauders on Saturday in the 2004 CMFL National Championship game! It was a great battle that saw both teams leave everything on the field. In the end, we came out on the short end of a 40-27 score. The Marauders did a great job containing our passing game. QB Darryl Leason finished 20 of 48, 319yds, 3TD & 2 INT's. SB Mike Leason had a huge game hauling in 7 passes for 177 yds & 2 TD's. SB Terry Eldridge hauled in a 26 yd TD pass & FB Matt Squires added a 3yd TD run. The defence was led by LB Kiyo Pearson with 6.5 tackles, LB Gomeya Cooper 4.5 tackles, 1 sack & CB Kenny Watt 4.5 tackles & 1 INT.

The Calgary Wolfpack would like to congratulate the Milton Marauders on winning the 2004 National Championship. Quite simply, we were beaten by a better team on Saturday. We would also like thank all of our fans, sponsors & families for your solid support. Without you, we couldn't play this great game of ours! This brings to a close the 2004 Wolfpack season. Rest assured, our preperations for 2005 are already underway. The Pack will be back in 2005!!

Wolfpack Mauls Some Gators Wandering On Dry Land!

In a much anticipated showdown with the Calgary Gators on Sunday afternoon, the Calgary Wolfpack came away with a 33-15 victory. The win pushes the Wolfpack record to 8-0 and guarantees the Pack finishes in 1st place in the AFL standings.

Efficient is the best way to describe the Wolfpack Offence. QB Darryl Leason through for 274 yards, 3 TD's & 2 INT's. Brother Mike Leason caught 11 of those passes for 129 yards & 1 TD, pushing over the 1000 yard mark for the season! SB Terry Eldridge caught 5 balls for 71 yards & 1 TD. WR Scott Sargent caught Leasons 3rd TD pass & FB Matt Squires added a 2 yard TD run!

The Wolfpack defence worked hard to contain the potent Gators Offence. LB Gomeya Cooper was flying around the field, finishing with 8 tackles! The Wolfpack secondary forced QB Brian Harrison into making 4 costly mistakes! HB Rob Sakires had 2 INT's & S Joey Whelen had 1 INT. RB/S Rod Bailey, playing as the 2nd safety returned his 1 INT 40 yards for a TD to seal the win!

Having wrapped up 1st place, the Wolfpack will now have almost a month off before our 1st playoff game! The team will take the much needed time to heal up, make some adjustments, & scout our competition!

Wolfpack Arrest Vandals!

The Calgary Wolfpack made the long journey north to visit the Lloydminster Vandals on Saturday. Behind 733 yards of Offence & some great individual performances on defence, the Wolfpack came away with a 52-3 victory over the expansion Vandals!

Leading the charge again on offence was QB Darryl Leason. Leason finished 32 of 49 for 474 yds, 3 TD's & 1 INT. SB Mike Leason hauled in 11 of those passes for 155yds & 1 TD. SB Terry Eldridge added 5 rec for 86yds & 1 TD. SB Mike Williamson had 4 rec for 65yds & 1 TD and also added a TD on the ground. The rushing game was once again paced by RB Rod Bailey who had 13 carries for 98yds & 1 TD. The leg of Rob Sakires also played a role as he went 5 for 5 on XP's and hit on 3 of 4 FG attempts!

On defence, the line came up huge! Leading the charge, NT Sheldon Southgate, coming back from a knee injury, had 6 solo & 1 assisted tackle! 2 of those tackles were for loss including a sack! Moving out to DE Ryan Bellerose had a big game as well with 4 solo & 2 assisted tackles as well as 1 sack! Whatever made it through the line ran into LB Gomeya Cooper. Cooper had 4 solo & 2 assisted tackles and 1/2 a sack! To top it off Cooper also had a 28 yard INT return TD!

This brings to close a long string of road trips that saw the Wolfpack travel to Medicine Hat, Red Deer, Grande Prairie & Lloydminster. The Wolfpack now gets ready to face our biggest rival the Calgary Thunder on Friday night, July 30, 7:00pm at McMahon Stadium.

Lest We Forget.....

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Week 5 vs. Central Alberta Buccaneers

Offense MVP: Sean Ahronson

Sean came to Lacombe ready to play, moving the ball well on the ground and making some big receptions deep to keep drives rolling.

Defense MVP: Reilly Penner

Reilly was all over the field, and chased down a number of players who broke into the secondary.

Special Teams MVP:  James Balsdon

Despite a nagging injury, James kicked the ball deep numerous times to give our defence some relief and better field position to work with.

Pride Award: Miles Myers

While the entire defence was also nominated, Miles covered his area well and individually made some key knockdowns to stall the Buccs offence.

'Wolf' Award: Graham McKendry

This award goes to the most aggressive player.  Graham played a tough but clean game making some big hits and tackles.

Wolfpack Clinches First!!

In a clash of #1 Offence vs #1 Defence on Saturday, the Calgary Wolfpack came out on top with a 29-10 win. The victory wraps up 1st place overall for the Wolfpack & guarantees homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Wolfpack offence rolled over the Vandals with almost 500 yards in total! QB Darryl Leason led the way going 29 of 45 for 373yds, 4 TD's & 2 INT's. Leason also ran for 27yds as well. 10 different receivers caught Leason passes with brother Mike topping all with 8 receptions for 124yds & 2 TD's. WR Jeff Maltais & FB Sheldon Southgate also caught TD's! RB Sean Ingram had his best game of the year finishing with 75yds on 13 carries as well as catching 5 passes for another 66yds!

The Wolfpack defence sent it's own message as well! The defence frustrated the Vandal offence all evening. LB Lazar Velev led all Wolfpack players with 7.5 tackles. HB Derek Chow had a huge game with 5 tackles & a big 4th quarter INT! LB Jeff Moodie added 4.5 tackles & a sack!

The 8-0 Wolfpack will now rest up for 2 weeks before finishing the regular season in Edmonton against the 0-8 Seahawks!

Wolfpack fights off some pirates!

The Calgary Wolfpack put up 50+ points for the 5th straight game in handing the Red Deer Buccaneers a 53-24 loss on Sunday. The offence was paced by another strong game from rookie RB Rod Bailey, who had 142 yards on 10 carries. QB Darryl Leason finished 17 of 30, 341yds & 5 TD's. SB Mike Leason broke the 100yd mark again with 5 rec, 115yds & 1TD. SB Terry Eldridge only caught 2 passes but made them count as both were for TD's (16,15). The defence stopped the Buccs when they had to! Leading the charge was LB Kiyo Pearson with 6.5 tkls, 3 of which for loss. With 3 starters missing from the secondary, the replacements filled in admirably. HB Leroy Favel led the team with 7.0 tkls & CB Dan Kowbel had 5.5 tkls. HB Rob Sakires electrified the crowd with his 5th INT of the year which he returned 60 yds for a TD! The Wolfpack travel to Lloydminster next to tangle with the expansion Vandals! Great Falls Gladiators

The Calgary Wolfpack Football Club regrets to announce that we have cancelled our July 15 game against the Great Falls Gladiators. From the information we have received, it appears that the Gladiators have ceased operations for 2001. We have tried repeatedly to make contact with the Gladiators management, with no success. Steve Niles, NAFL Commissioner, told us this morning that as far as he knew, the Gladiators are "dead". We sincerely hope that a new ownership group can come forward, and Great Falls can field a team in 2002!

Miles For Moodie

In March 2009, our friend & teammate Jeff Moodie suffered a spinal injury while on vacation in Mexico, which has left Jeff a quadriplegic. Another former team mate, Dennis Clark is running in his first ever Ironman Triathalon to raise funds for Jeff's rehabilitation. Please help Dennis & Jeff! The Calgary Wolfpack thanks you for your support.
