Congratulations Jake. See article below from The Seattle Times. Young goaltender debuts for T-birds By Steve Turcotte Special to The Seattle Times Welcome to the Western Hockey League, Jacob DeSerres. The Seattle Thunderbirds introduced the 15-year-old goaltender to the WHL on Saturday night at KeyArena and it was a night that DeSerres will store forever in his hockey memory bank. DeSerres stopped 22 shots and helped the Thunderbirds to a 3-1 victory over Prince Albert as he made his WHL debut in style. Not bad for someone who was playing just a few days ago for the Calgary Buffaloes in the Alberta Minor Hockey League. "I just looked at it like any other game," said DeSerres, who played well during the T-birds' training camp. "Once I got that first tough save out of the way, it was a lot easier." DeSerres was picked by the Thunderbirds in the third round of the 2005 WHL Bantam draft. He has spent the season playing in Calgary, but was brought up this week for the Thunderbirds to take a look. So far, so good. The timing for DeSerres to get a start in the Thunderbird goal was perfect. Starting goaltender Bryan Bridges is out with an injured ankle and backup Gavin McHale played Friday in Spokane and will go again tonight against Kootenay (5:05 p.m. at KeyArena). DeSerres will get the opportunity to play five games with the Thunderbirds (12-7-1-3) this season before heading back to Calgary. "We expected him to play well," said Seattle coach Rob Sumner of DeSerres. "He didn't look nervous he was calm and it showed in his play on the ice." DeSerres stopped every shot he faced until Prince Albert went on the power play midway through the third period. He couldn't get a handle on a shot from Ryan DePare at 10:58 as Prince Albert cut the Seattle lead to 2-1. The Thunderbirds, 7-3 in their last 10 games, are one point behind both Everett and Portland in the U.S. Division. Sunday, June 1 Titans win 3rd Place Final at NAA The boys played a great game today in defeating the host NAA team by a score of 6 - 1. The team was really flying, and the shut out was lost to a blistering slap shot that beat Jakey on the glove side. Great season boys, finishing with a record of 11 wins 4 losses and a tie. Next up is Titan's shinny at Crowchild Twin Arenas at 6.15pm tomorrow. Stay tuned for information on the Wind-up BBQ and the Foremost Golf Trip. Saturday, May 31 Team Meal at Joey Tomatoes After the second game of the day the team went to Joey Tomatoes for a team meal, which included a birthday cake to celebrate Ben's birthday. After the meal all the boys and some dedicated dads went go-kart racing. We have some very serious competitors on our team!! Saturday, May 31 Titans in 3rd Place Final at NAA As a result of losing to NASH this morning, the Titans failed to make the Championship round tomorrow. It was a close game that both teams dominated at various times, but the big strong NASH team came out the winner. The Titans will play the host NAA team at 12.15pm tomorrow. Friday, May 30 Titans celebrate Corbin's birthday at Hooters After their game today, the boys along with a few dedicated dads retired to Hooters at West Edmonton Mall, to celebrate Corbin's 13th Birthday. The ladies helped Corbin celebrate by singing to him and signing autographs. Corbin took it all in his stride. Don't forget the 9.30pm curfew boys. Friday, May 30 Titans tie first game in NAA Tournament In what was game of constantly changing momentum, the Titans came from behind in the 3rd period to tie the Red Deer Rustlers with a score of 4 each. Red Deer were full value in this game that saw them come from a 2 - 1 deficit, to pull ahead 4 - 3 late in the second period. The boys will now face the strong NASH team, that some of you will remember, beat the Titans in the final of this tournament last year. NASH beat the Southern Alberta Firehawks 6 - 1 in their first game. The Titans will need nothing short of a win against NASH, if they want to qualify for the Finals on Sunday. Sunday, May 25 Team World dominates in skills...... Team World dominated Team North America in the 2nd Annual Titans skills competition today. Team World won the Speed Skating Relay, the Hardest Shot, the Individual Speed Skating and the 3 on 3. Team North America won the individual showdown and the Accuracy competition was a tie. Fastest individual skater was Justin D. and the hardest shot came from CD. Everyone was a winner when it came to the prizes, as every Titan received a T-shirt (Western Explosives), a pair of sunglasses (AARC), and candy. After the Skills competition the team made its way over to AARC in SE Calgary, where it was fed a great BBQ, and listened to a presentation on Drug and Alcohol addiction from Dr. Dean Vause. The team thanks Dr. Vause for his generosity in feeding the team, and making the boys and their parents aware of the great work of AARC. Find out more about AARC by checking their website, under links on this site. We had fun too............ Check out the hair on these boys, as they express their creative side in Burnaby!!! As the Final was so late, the team had to really move to make their flight back to Calgary on Monday evening, which they all did. Thanks to our opponents in the Final, the Island Stars from Victoria BC, who allowed us to play the whole game without floods. A great weekend was had by parents and players alike, as we saw lots and did lots, as well as play 6 hockey games. Congratulations boys!!
Monday, May 19 Titans Score in Skills Competition The Titans won 2 of the 5 skills competitions (puckhandling & showdown) at the Challenge Cup, and came 2nd in a third (fastest skater). That is a great performance.
Sunday, May 18 Titans Record is 3 & 1 at Challenge Cup The Titans have ended the Round Robin portion of the Challenge with a winning record of 3 and 1, which is sufficient to put them into the Consolation "A" Semi - Final on Monday morning at 10.15am. Sunday, May 4 Titans go down to Huskies in Xtreme Final After losing 2 players to injury and one to a suspension, forcing the boys to go with 2 lines, the Huskies were just too much for our boys. 6 games in 3 days was a real test for the Titans. All credit to the Huskies for playing a smart game , outshooting the Titans and winning all the battles. Final top 3 placings in the tournament were: Gold - Saskatchewan Huskies Silver - Titans Bronze - Manitoba Moose That's a great start to the season boys. Sunday, May 4 Titans defeat Manitoba Mighty Moose and move to Xtreme Final In what many regard as the best performance ever by the Titans, the boys defeated the Moose in an incredibly close and disciplined game, by a score of 2 - 1. Coach Bill said every Titan came to play today, and deserved this victory. The Moose were gracious in defeat, and we wish them luck as they move on to hosting the Winnipeg Champions Cup next weekend. The Titans move on to the Championship game against the Saskatchewan Huskies at 4pm today. Good luck boys. The Moose will play Team Flarrow in the Bronze medal game this afternoon as well. The other semi-final will feature Team Flarrow against the Huskies. This will be an excellent test for the boys, in the first tournament of this spring season. Good luck boys!! Friday, May 2 Titans 2 & 0 after day 1 at Team Xtreme Well, the boys made a slow start in their first game of the season, squeaking out a 3 - 2 win over Team Flarrow from Calgary.
