Park View clinches the West Regional Championship with an 11-4 triumph over Loomis-Eureka Lakeside Little League (Northern California) and becomes the first ever team from District 42 to advance to the Little League World Series
In their first ever game on TV, the team started off with a bang, with Rios (solo) and Garcia (two-run) ripping home runs in the top of the first to stake Park View to a quick 3-0 lead before 13,500 in Houghton Stadium. Lakeside pitching quieted the explosive bats until the fifth inning, while tying the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the third with a two-run shot and a steal of home. That was all they could muster until the bottom of the fifth, as Ramirez and Armenta combined on a 6-hitter to shut them down.
Park View broke the game open in the top of the fifth, scoring five times (without a home run) to take an 8-3 lead. Lakeside added a solo homer in the bottom half to pull within four, but Ramirez (two-run monster blast) and Garcia (solo blast) gave Park View an extra cushion in the top of the sixth to put the game away. Park View will have five days off to recharge their batteries and soak up the excitement of it all before they open World Series play on Saturday August 22 at 5:00 PM PDT (live on ESPN 2) against the Great Lakes Region Champions, Logan County/Russellville Little League from Russellville, Kentucky in Lamade Stadium. On Sunday, they move over to Volunteer Stadium to take on the New England Region Champs from Peabody Western Little League in Peabody, Massachusetts at 3:00 PM PDT, and back to Lamade Stadium on Tuesday to close out pool play against McAllister Park American Little League from San Antonio, Texas, the Southwest Region winners, at 5:00 PM PDT. Both of those games are also on ESPN 2.
