2009 Western Region Tournament

2009 Western Region Tournament

UPDATE (8/14/09): Park View will face Loomis-Eureka Lakeside Little League (Northern California) in the Championship game on Sunday.

UPDATE (8/14/09): Park View advances to title game. Park View Litle League continued their assault on opponents pitching in front of 6300 fans, roaring out to a 5-0 lead and never looking back as they ousted Legacy Little League (Nevada) 15-2 to clinch a spot in the West Region title game on Sunday evening. Kiko Garcia again led the team, throwing a 3-hitter and adding three homers to pace the team offensively. Armenta added two blasts, including a walk-off grand slam, and Graft padded his stats as well with another moonshot. The six home runs brought their already impressive total to 34 for the tournament. I know the Mayor of Tent City is getting whiplash from watching all those blasts sail over her head (and the trees behind her). Click HERE to check the box score. Park View will face the winner of the second Semi-Final game between Northern California and Arizona in the Championship Game on Sunday at 5:00 PM at Houghton Stadium, live on ESPN 2.

UPDATE (8/13/09): After the final day of pool play, Park has been seeded second, and will face third-seeded Legacy Little League (Nevada) in the Semi-Finals at 4:00 PM on Friday August 14 at Houghton Stadium.

UPDATE 8/11/09): Park View finishes pool play unbeaten. Park View may have thrown a scare into the casual fan on Tuesday night in Houghton Stadium. But everyone else knew it was just a matter of time. Park View fell behind Legacy Little League (Nevada) 5-0 in the top of the first behind back-to-back grand slam and solo home runs. They replied with two solo shots (Rios, Ramirez) in the bottom half, then were held scoreless until the third, when Garcia drew them closer with a two run shot to make it 5-4. Another scoreless inning in the fourth may have left a few Nevada fans with the feeling of an upset, but that feeling was squashed immediately when the bats finally awoke in the bottom of the fifth. Two sets of back-to-back homers did the trick. The first set of back-to back blasts, by Garcia and Roberto, put Park View ahead to stay, and Armenta and Godrey added icing on the cake with their set. Click HERE to see the box score. Park View now awaits the results from the final day of pool play to determine their seeding and their opponent in the Semi-Finals, set for Friday night at Houghton Stadium. The two Semi-Final winners will meet on Sunday at 5:00 PM PDT and televised live on ESPN 2, for the right to travel to Williamsport, PA for the World Series.

UPDATE (8/10/09): Park View continues assault on opponents pitching. Park View continues to rack up the offense, handing Arrowhead (Arizona) a 20-1 defeat at the Western Regional Tournament Monday in San Bernardino, Included in the 14-hit attack were two more home runs each by Bulla Graft and Oscar Castro, to go along with one homer blasted by Garcia. Armenta and Melin continued the fine pitching by Park View, holding Arizona to a run on 5 hits. Click HERE to view the box score. Park View winds up pool play on Tuesday, facing off against Lagacy Little League (Nevada) at 7:30 PM.

UPDATE (8/9/09): The fireworks continue. On the heels of their opening game victory, Park View again bombs 8 homers and 15 hits total, and runs away from Central East Maui (Hawaii) to win by the score of 15-2. Kiko Garcia held Hawaii to a run on one hit in 2 2/3 innings, and helped himself at the plate with two fence-clearing shots. Graft also contributed two homers of his own, and Rios, Castro, Armenta and Godfrey each belted one each. Godfrey and Rios also combined to hold Hawaii to a run and a hit in finishing up the game on the mound. Click HERE to view the box score. Park View will face Arrowhead Little League (Arizona) on Monday night at 7:30 PM.

UPDATE (8/7/09): Park View wins first game in pool play by a score of 27-1. After surrendering a first inning solo homer, Park View scores 27 unanswered runs to defeat Cedar City (Utah) in the opening game of pool play in the West Region Tournament. Backed by a fifteen-hit attack and the one-hit pitching of Luke Ramirez, Park View blasted 8 home runs, including two each by Ramirez (solo shot, 3-run shot), Graft (3-run shot, grand slam) and Garcia (solo, 2-run blasts), and one each from Peterson (3-run shot) and Castro (3-run shot). Click HERE to view the box score. Park View plays again on Sunday night at 8:00 PM against Central East Maui (Hawaii).
