UPDATE (8/3/09): It's been a long time. District 42 now has added another destination on the road to Williamsport in the Little League World Series. In other Division III action, the All-Stars from Tustin Western (Section 5) captured the 10/11 year-old Southern California State Championship with another come-from-behind victory over Ladera Ranch (Section 10). Ladera had the lead at 5 - 4 before Tustin struck back to claim the 10 - 5 triumph. Congratulations to both teams for a very exciting Championship Series, and especially to Tustin Western for taking home the flag. The other Section 7 Champions still playing, Rancho San Diego Little League from District 41, took home the Southern California State Championship in the 9/10 year-old division with a 4 - 3 win over Orange Little League (Section 5) in the finale of their three game series. Congratulations to Rancho San Diego! Section 7 fared extremely well in the 2009 Division Tournaments with two Champions: Park View (Little League) and District 41's Rancho San Diego (9/10's), and three third place finishes (all three lost in the Championship game of the Sub-Division III Tournament): Sweetwater Valley (10/11's), Park View (Juniors) and District 66's Spring Valley (Seniors). The final brackets for all Division Tournaments are on the Handouts page. Congratulations to all five teams, you are all Champions in our eyes! Now it's ON TO SAN BERNARDINO!!! An interesting side note: the Big League team (17/18 year-olds) from District 14 in Mexicali, Mexico has reached the semi-finals of the 2009 Big League World Series in Easley, SC. The semi-final game is scheduled for Tuesday August 4 at 1:00 PM PDT. UPDATE (8/2/09): Two games for all the marbles on Monday. We'll start with the Little League Division. Park View's 11/12 year-olds came back with a vengeance on Sunday, handing Torrance Little League (Section 4) a 7 - 6 defeat, to square the series at one game each. The Park View victory sets up the winner-take-all Division III Championshhip game on Monday. Game time is 5:00 PM at Encino Little League. Down in Imperial Beach, Tustin Western (Section 5) came from behind to hand Ladera Ranch (Section 10) a rare loss, 9 - 2, and pulling even in their series one game apeice. The 10/11 year-old Southern California State Championship will be decided on Monday at Imperial Beach Little League starting at 6:30 PM. In case you were wondering, the Division III brackets from all the other divisions have been updated as well, and can be found on the Handouts page. The Juniors are finished (congratulations to Montalvo Little League (Section 1)), and the Seniors have not been reported as of this writing. The District 41/Section 7 team from Rancho San Diego is still alive, playing for the Southern California State Championship in the 9/10 year-old division. The "IF" game for that Tournament is Monday night at Newmark Little League. The "IF" game for the Seniors is being played tonight (Sunday). Results will be posted as soon as they are available. Keep checking back. REMINDER: If anyone has high resolution team photographs of ANY of our District 42 Champions from this season, please email them to the District Info Officer at cad42@cox.net. Several news publications are asking for them to run in their papers. We do have the 9/10's from Park View, but we need all other Divisions of baseball and softball. Thank you very much! UPDATE (7/30/09): The 2009 season came to an ubrupt finish for the Park View Juniors All-Stars at Murphy Canyon. The Section 7 Champs were derailed in their quest for a Division flag on Thursday night, falling to West Corona (Section 9) 10 - 7 in the Sub-Division III South final. The loss eliminates Park View from the Tournament. Congratulations to Park View for their incredible journey through the post season. It was a great ride. Congratulations and good luck to West Corona in the Division Championship Series against Montalvo. UPDATE (7/29/09): Sub-Division III South Champions were crowned Wednesday night in two divisions, while a third will play the winner-take-all "IF" game. Park View's Little League All-Stars (11/12 year-olds) jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a convincing 16 - 1 win over Rancho Santa Margarita (Section 10). Park View walloped 8 shots out of the park on their way to capturing the flag. Park View advances to the best-of-three Division III Championship Series beginning Saturday at 10:00 AM at Encino Little League. The winner gets a trip to the Western Regional Tournament in San Bernardino. Good Luck Park View! Sweetwater Valley did not have such a happy ending. The 10/11 year-old All-Stars hung close with Ladera Ranch (Section 10) for four innings, but a grand slam and a walk-off solo shot put an end to Sweetwater's championship dreams in the bottom of the fifth, a 12 - 2 defeat that eliminated them from title contention. Ladera Ranch will advance to take on Tustin Western (Section 5) in the Championship Series that kicks off Saturday at 6:00 PM at Imperial Beach Little League. The winner is crowned the 2009 Southern California State Champions. Congratulations and good luck to Ladera Ranch! Congratulations to Sweetwater Valley on a great post season run! We enjoyed every minute of it! Park View's Junior All-Stars came back to force the "IF" game in the Junior Sub-Division III South Tourney with a 12 - 2 dusting of West Corona Little League (Section 9) at Murphy Canyon. The winner of Thursday'a game will advance to the Division III Championship Series against Montalvo Little League (Section 1), also at Murphy Canyon Little League. Good luck Park View! We're pulling for you!
