In 1952, Shelley started umpiring in Little League; a friend had asked him to help out if he had the time. After agreeing to his friends request, and 55 years later, Shelley has been umpiring baseball ever since.
Shelley White has been a member of the South County High School Softball Umpires Association for 25 years and has officiated more than 10 division championship games and 15 division semifinal games.
Some of his biggest games behind the plate were the Regional Tournament at Western Region in 1983. The Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan in 1985. The Girls Major/Senior World Series in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1986. And finally, the Little League World Series, Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 1991.
In 1982, Shelley joined the District 42 staff, which split into District 66, and has been with the district ever since. Shelley also serves on Western Regional Committee for Little League baseball.
Shelley was inducted into the Hall of Champions on October 3, 2006 in Balboa Park, being in the first class of San Diego County Sports Officials Hall of Fame.
