Lutz, Blashford named All-American
By sentinel staff, May 22, 2003

Carlisle lacrosse players Jason Lutz and Jon Blashford have been selected as All-Americans by the U.S. Lacrosse Chapter for Central Pennsylvania.

Coaches across the area had the opportunity to nominate four players for the All-American team. The chapter then voted to determine this year's All Americans. Four players out of 28 total nominees were named. The other selections were Andrew Maverganus of Hempfield and Bill Espenshade of Lancaster Country Day.

Lutz, a midfielder, was a first team all-state selection last year. This season, he had 18 goals and 14 assists for 42 points through May 7. Fellow midfielder Blashford has 16 goals and seven assists for 23 points.

Both are seniors at Carlisle and will attend Ohio State University in the fall. They'll both play lacrosse for the Buckeyes under the guidance of head coach Joe Breschi, brother of Herd boys' lacrosse coach Dave Breschi.

Lutz and Blashford are the first lacrosse players in Carlisle history to sign with a Division I program. Both received partial athletic scholarships to Ohio State.

Carlisle has won the Mid-Penn championship the last three years straight and won its first state playoff game last season. The Thundering Herd is seeded second, behind Hempfield, in this year's District 3 tournament. After a first-round bye, the Herd hosts CD East in the second round of the D3 playoffs Friday at 8 p.m.
