Butler County Diamondbacks 18U
WHO WE ARE

We are a select baseball team of 17- and 18-year-olds. Our players and coaches are from the Southwest Ohio area and Brookville, Ind. The 2009 campaign will be our ninth and final year together.

We compete in a lot of tournaments and have traveled outside Ohio numerous times, playing in North Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Kansas, Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Florida and Canada the last eight years.

Diamondbacks kick off Buckeye Elite Showcase with two victories in Columbus

Mitch Durbin and Andrew Fritsch threw complete games Thursday morning as the Diamondbacks began the Buckeye Elite Showcase with a pair of victories at Watterson High School in Columbus.

Durbin pitched an eight-hitter with five strikeouts in the opener, a 9-5 triumph over Columbus Watterson American Legion Post 82. Durbin also doubled, singled and drove in three runs, and Dan Constable smacked a three-run double. Other offensive leaders were Jay Woods (1-for-1, four runs), Tony Cassano (two hits), Corey Holt (double, single, two RBIs) and Connor Murden (two hits, RBI).

In the second game, Fritsch scattered 11 hits and allowed only five earned runs in a 13-9 win over the Fox Valley (Ill.) Royals 17U American squad. The Diamondbacks played the last two innings with only eight players after one got ejected. Hitting leaders were Woods (two hits, three runs, RBI), Durbin (RBI), Cassano (double, single, two RBIs), Holt (RBI), Constable (two runs, RBI), Murden (two RBIs) and Evan Kupper (RBI).

The Diamondbacks, 20-15 overall, will complete pool play Friday morning at Watterson, facing the Ohio Thunder 18U at 8:30 a.m.

Diamondbacks advance to Classic title game, then rain takes over

Mike Denning and Cody Hinson combined on a four-hitter with seven strikeouts Sunday (June 14) as the Diamondbacks blanked the Cincinnati Bulldogs 6-0 in the semifinals of the Diamondback Classic at Alumni Field.

Bud Brown drove in two runs for the Diamondbacks (8-4), while Dan Constable, Connor Murden, Evan Kupper and Dylin Fowler plated a run apiece. Hinson pitched the last five innings to earn the mound win.

The second semifinal between the Ohio Warhawks and Dayton Dodgers 17U was washed out by a torrential rainstorm, thus ending the tournament. The Warhawks were leading 7-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
