Burlington Sting 14U Fastpitch: About Us

Sting 14U is a competitive travel softball team based out of Burlington County, New Jersey.  The team was formed in Fall 2009 as a 10U team and has a strong core group that is now beginning its fourth year of play together.  Our home for outdoor practices and games is in Burlington City, near Routes 130 and 541.

Coaches: Head Coach Bob Cooper has been involved in softball in South Jersey for decades and is highly-regarded as both a coach and player. "Coop" is able to combine game experience with technical knowledge in a constructive environment well suited for 14U Softball players. The team's assistant coaches also bring a wealth of experience and are well-aligned in approach to the game, whether it be off season training or game day strategies.

What to Expect: We will play competitively against both “A” and “B” level competition in a combination of tournaments, scrimmages, and league play.  During the recently completed spring / summer season, Sting 12U played in 10 tournaments (Pony, USSSA, and Invitational) and reached at least the semi-finals in 9 of the 10 events while qualifying for USSSA World Series play.

For the upcoming season, we will develop a schedule similar to this year’s and are looking to get ready by participating in tournaments this fall, supplemented by scrimmages with nearby teams.  This provides an opportunity for new players and returning players to quickly become accustomed to playing together as a new team. Play in the fall will be primarily on weekends, allowing our athletes to participate in other sports as appropriate.

During the winter, we will once again be conducting team practices indoors to work on all facets of the game (including conditioning) and we will also be holding indoor hitting sessions at a local training facility.  Opportunity will also be provided for pitchers and catchers to participate in semi-private training lessons, held with other team members and led by outside instructors.

Sting Philosophy: The Sting 14U team will pride itself on sportsmanship, hard work, and respect for self, teammates, coaches, parents, opponents and the game of softball. We emphasize team play, scholarship, citizenship, and family.

At the same time, Sting 14U will focus on improving each player’s softball skills, while developing her abilities to continue playing at advanced levels. The coaching staff will provide A-level instruction with decades of combined experience both coaching and playing softball. Beyond our coaching, players will further develop their skills by hearing “fresh voices” from outside experts during the offseason as they work on pitching, catching, and hitting.
