Registration for Spring Season Now Open

Happy New Year! Bull City Little League is happy to announce that registration is now open for Spring 2016 Baseball and Softball. We are looking forward to another successful year, and want to update you all on some important dates and changes for the upcoming season.

Registration is open from Friday, January 8th through Friday, February 12th. We will allow a one-week period for late registration, from February 13-20, with a $25 late fee added to the registration fee. All registrations and payments must be made online. There will be no walk-up registration this year.

You can access the registration portal here.

Skill evaluations are scheduled as follows:

  • Saturday, February 13th from 3-6pm for Baseball Ages 6-8, Softball Ages 6-12
  • Sunday, February 14th from 3-6pm for Baseball Ages 9-12
  • Sunday, February 21st from 3-6pm for Baseball Ages 9-12
  • If your child is 6 or older, they must attend one of the evaluation sessions. If your son played Majors baseball last spring, he does not need to attend skill evaluations due to continuity.
  • Please contact us if you have any conflicts and will be unable to make it.

After reviewing the cost of operations during the winter season, the BCLL Board of Directors approved a $25 fee increase for baseball and a $15 fee increase for softball that takes effect with the spring season. BCLL is one of very few Little League organizations in North Carolina that owns our fields. The money will be used to help offset the increased costs associated with field maintenance and pay our bank note, as well as to make necessary updates to the facilities. If this increase represents a hardship to your family, we do offer need-based scholarships.

During the offseason, Little League International changed the rules regarding player age determination for baseball. Please click here to determine your baseball player's age.

If you are signing up your 6-year-old daughter, please be sure to sign her up for “Baseball – Born September 1, 2006 or later”. Our ages for softball are 7-12; however, since we are a skills-based league, there may be 6-year-old girls who qualify to play in the Minors Softball division (machine pitch). Those who do not qualify will be placed on a co-ed Baseball Rookie division team (coach pitch/tee). If a decision is made after skill evaluations to place your daughter on a Minors Softball team, we will reimburse the difference. If you have any questions about this, please contact Softball Commissioner Wendy Dixon.

Lastly, we are currently working with Little League International to update our boundary map. We have a proposal pending that should have little impact on the majority of families that have played with us within the past year. Our proposal may or may not be approved by Little League. In the event that you register your child with us and Little League does not approve our proposed boundary map AND you live outside of our current boundaries, we will refund your registration fee in full.

As always, the Board of Directors is available to answer any questions you might have. Please reach out to us at info@bullcitylittleleague.org with any questions or feedback. We are looking forward to seeing you all on the fields soon!

BCLL Board of Directors for the 2016 Fiscal Year

BCLL's annual meeting was held Thursday evening, October 22nd, at the Town & Country building across from the fields.  We had a great turnout of parents who were interested in learning more about the operation of the league and in contributing their talents to maintaining and improving BCLL.

Some existing members were elected to new positions, and several new members were elected to the Board.  We sincerely thank those persons who attended, we welcome our new Board members, and we particularly thank those individuals who have not joined the Board, but have agreed to assist the Board and to serve on Commitees to assist in the support and management of the league.

BCLL Hosts Successful Softball Clinic With NCSU Wolfpack Club

BCLL hosted a free Halloween Havoc softball clinic with NCSU Wolfpack Club on Saturday, October 24 at our complex. Fifty girls were in attendance from 9am-12pm and received great instruction from Wolfpack softball players. Lunch was served after the clinic and everyone had a great time. BCLL sends a big thank you to N.C. State Softball for putting on the clinic to help our girls improve!

All-Stars Recap: 8/9s Finish as State Runner-up; 9/10s Finish 3rd in State

The All-Star season has come to an end, with the exception of the 5/6 team that plays this weekend at BCLL. Bull City had a strong showing in postseason tournaments, sending their 8/9 and 9/10 teams to state tournaments.

The 8/9s finished runner-up in district play and advanced to the state tournament since District 6 was the host. They made a strong run in states, finishing runner-up to unbeaten Weddington National.

The 9/10s won the District 6 title and had a good showing in states as well. They fell twice to Greenville's North State team, and finished 3rd in the state.

The 7/8, 10/11 and 11/12 baseball teams and the 9/10 softball team represented BCLL well in district tournament play but fell short of advancing to the state tournaments. The 7/8s went 5-1 to finish 3rd in district play; the 10/11s went 2-2 and finished runner-up to Wilson; and the 11/12s went 2-2, finishing 3rd in the district. The 9/10 girls played Roxboro and Wilmington hard and close before losing both games in district play. They showed everyone that BCLL is a new force to be reckoned with in softball.

We are proud of all of our All-Star teams and look forward to cheering on the 5/6s in their tournament this weekend!

Mayors Cup DBacks Mayors Cup White Sox

BCLL-SDLL Split in Mayor's Cup

BCLL and SDLL split the Mayor's Cup this year, with each league winning two games. The Majors DBacks and AAA National White Sox brought trophies home with wins over their SDLL counterparts. The AAA American Braves and Machine Pitch Angels both played hard but fell short.

We congratulate the players and coaches of all four teams for representing BCLL in the Mayor's Cup Championship.

Parade of Stars, Battle of the Bats a Big Success

We'd like to thank everyone who came out and spent the day with us Saturday for the Parade of Stars and Battle of the Bats event. We know it was a long day for many of you, but it was a great success! While we do not yet have final numbers for Battle of the Bats donations, we can say that we raised enough to cover the cost of new scoreboards that will be placed on Fields 1 and 3 very soon! Thank you all for your participation and support in our effort to make BCLL the best it can be!

Another Succesful Dick's Shop Day in the Books; Great Day at N.C. State Softball

Thanks to everyone who came out to support BCLL and take advantage of the 20% off coupon at Dick's Sporting Goods on Saturday. We saw 120 families between 10am and 2pm, when board members were present to assist with questions, and a total of 309 coupons were used throughout the day. Kim Naylor was the winner of a $50 Dick's gift certificate from our drawing, so congratulations to her! We feel certain that once numbers are crunched, they will show another great turnout for Shop Day!

We'd also like to thank N.C. State Softball for hosting Little League day at their game against Notre Dame on Sunday. Several families took advantage of the beautiful weather to attend the game and meet players after the game, and had a great time! We have BCLL days planned with Duke Baseball and UNC Softball coming up, so stay tuned for more information on those.

New Dick's Sporting Goods Coupons Available

In 2014, Bull City Little League entered into a community partnership with Dick's Sporting Goods at Brier Creek. It was a very successful partnership for both parties, with Dick's providing us with equipment, being our primary sponsor for our Bat-a-thon fundraiser and hosting spring and fall shop days with coupons specifically for our league.

We will continue to partner with Dick's in the coming year. They have already provided us with new coupons that can be used now, and continue to be used through 2015. You can access the new coupons here. This is great for those of you who are still Christmas shopping for your ball player!

We'd like to thank Dick's Sporting Goods for their continued support of BCLL, and we look forward to another successful year working together!

Little League Outlaws Composite bats for Spring 2011

For Majors and below, Little League International has outlawed composite barreled bats for the spring season.

This means no one playing in North Durham Little League games will be allowed to use composite bats.

Little League International MAY provide a list of composite bats which are still considered legal, but they have not done so yet.

Here is the information from Little League International:
