Bull City Little League: Welcome

Juniors Tournament Championship Set For Wednesday, July 1

The Juniors tournament championship game is slated for Wednesday night at 6:30pm on Field 1. The Astros will face off with the Nationals. Come on out and take in the last game of the spring season at BCLL!

Keep Up With BCLL All-Star Games From Home

If you're not able to make it to Wilson to watch any All-Star games in person, there is a great way to keep up at home. The iscoresports links for each division's district tournament provide live play-by-play for each game (not video).

The links are as follows:

District 6 All-Star Brackets Released

BCLL will field 5 baseball teams and 1 softball team in the upcoming District 6 tournaments. All baseball games will be held in Wilson. The softball tournament will be held in Garner. There is no district tournament for the 5/6 team, and they will play in local tournaments later in July.

The first district tournament game for each team is as follows:

  • 9/10 vs. South Durham-Orange at 6pm on 6/26
  • 7/8 vs. Garner at noon on 6/27 and vs. Roxboro-1 at 2pm
  • 8/9 vs. Wilmington at 4pm on 6/27
  • 10/11 vs. Wilson at 6pm on 7/3
  • 11/12 vs. Clayton at 6pm on 7/3
  • 9/10 softball vs. Roxboro at 3pm on 7/5

Full brackets for each division can be viewed here: 7/8 bracket (Pool Play Results), 8/9 bracket, 9/10 bracket, 10/11 bracket, 11/12 bracket and 9/10 softball bracket.

The All-Star teams would appreciate the support if you're able to make it to Wilson or Garner to take in some games. We will be updating our Facebook page as teams play, so you can keep up with the teams and show support there if you're not able to make it out in person.

Mayors Cup DBacks Mayors Cup White Sox

BCLL-SDLL Split in Mayor's Cup

BCLL and SDLL split the Mayor's Cup this year, with each league winning two games. The Majors DBacks and AAA National White Sox brought trophies home with wins over their SDLL counterparts. The AAA American Braves and Machine Pitch Angels both played hard but fell short.

We congratulate the players and coaches of all four teams for representing BCLL in the Mayor's Cup Championship.

Downey's Baseball Classic To Be Held At BCLL Friday, July 31st

BCLL will host the 2015 Downey's Baseball Classic at our complex on Friday, July 31st from 9a-5p. The camp is open for ages 9-13. Coaches/trainers and volunteer collegiate athletes associated with Downey's Indoor Baseball Facility will run the camp. The cost is $75 per participant ($5 off for RLDIBF members). Downey will donate $5 to BCLL for each participant. Participants must register online on Downey's website.

The camp will include instruction on stretching and agility, base-running, bunting, throwing and position instruction (OF, INF, C or P). The afternoon will consist of a tournament of mini games, events and award ceremony. Lunch will be provided.

Great Read For All Little League Parents

Jeff, who writes for TheRustyArm blog, recently blogged about what youth baseball parents should be doing for their kids after speaking with Cal State-Long Beach coach Mike Steele. Steele has some sound advice for parents raising men, who also happen to play baseball. Read the full post on TheRustyArm.

NCCU Baseball Skills Camp Offered July 13th & 14th

I.T.S. Summer Workshop to be Held June 23-24

BCLL sponsor I.T.S. Baseball is hosting a Position Player Throwing Workshop on Tuesday, June 23 and Wednesday, June 24. The workshop is designed to help with throwing mechanics of infielders, outfielders and catchers. The cost of the workshop is $60. For more details or to sign up, call I.T.S. at 919-245-1181.

In addition to the workshop, I.T.S. offers BCLL players discounted evaluations. Hitting, pitching, catching evals and arm care instruction are $40 (regular prices - eval $60/arm care $50). Parade of Stars, Battle of the Bats a Big Success

We'd like to thank everyone who came out and spent the day with us Saturday for the Parade of Stars and Battle of the Bats event. We know it was a long day for many of you, but it was a great success! While we do not yet have final numbers for Battle of the Bats donations, we can say that we raised enough to cover the cost of new scoreboards that will be placed on Fields 1 and 3 very soon! Thank you all for your participation and support in our effort to make BCLL the best it can be!

Parade of Stars & Battle of the Bats Event Set For Saturday, May 9

After careful consideration, the BCLL Board of Directors has made the decision to reinstate opening ceremonies, which were washed out at the beginning of the season.

Please join us for our Parade of Stars & Battle of the Bats event on Saturday, May 9th! Your star players will march across Field 2 in full uniform and be introduced to the BCLL family. The parade will be followed by games, pictures and the Battle of the Bats (Bat-a-thon) fundraiser. A full schedule of the day's events is forthcoming.

Battle of the Bats is BCLL's biggest fundraiser, and this year we are raising money to install brand new scoreboards on Fields 1 and 3! For those of you who have been around a while, you know that these scoreboards have been around longer than you have and have burned-out bulbs that make it difficult for fans to keep up with games. Our goal is to make the entire experience better for all, and providing new scoreboards will go a long way in doing so.

All sponsors are welcome to attend the Parade of Stars & Battle of the Bats event. If you would like to set up and interact with our players and families, please contact us at info@bullcitylittleleague.org.

We are looking forward to a fun-filled day at the ballpark!

Field Maintenance Day, Opening Ceremonies

The start of the spring baseball and softball season is just around the corner. There are some key dates that everyone should be aware of.

Field maintenance day is scheduled for this Saturday, March 21, from 7:30am-11am. This time is dedicated to helping get our facilities ready for the season. We need volunteers of all skill sets to help out, as there are tasks of all kinds. Please consider donating an hour or more of your time to help us get things in tip-top shape before opening ceremonies.

Opening ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, March 28. Time is TBD. Pictures will also take place on this day (schedule is forthcoming). Please join us for our annual parade of teams, keynote speaker and mingle with your BCLL family and sponsors that will be on hand to help us kick off the new season. Our keynote speaker will be Mike Potts, a member of the N.C. Highway Patrol and a former Durham Bull.

We are looking forward to kicking off the season and seeing everyone at the fields for these two events!

Another Succesful Dick's Shop Day in the Books; Great Day at N.C. State Softball

Thanks to everyone who came out to support BCLL and take advantage of the 20% off coupon at Dick's Sporting Goods on Saturday. We saw 120 families between 10am and 2pm, when board members were present to assist with questions, and a total of 309 coupons were used throughout the day. Kim Naylor was the winner of a $50 Dick's gift certificate from our drawing, so congratulations to her! We feel certain that once numbers are crunched, they will show another great turnout for Shop Day!

We'd also like to thank N.C. State Softball for hosting Little League day at their game against Notre Dame on Sunday. Several families took advantage of the beautiful weather to attend the game and meet players after the game, and had a great time! We have BCLL days planned with Duke Baseball and UNC Softball coming up, so stay tuned for more information on those.

Skill Evaluations Update for Sunday

We will be at BCLL for Day 2 of skill evaluations today, from 2-4pm. Please be there no later than 2:45 to check in.

Four-, five- and six-year-olds do not need to attend.

12-year-olds also do not need to attend UNLESS they are new to the league.

If your child of any age is new to our league, please bring them today. If you have played in our league in the past and are comfortable using previous years' evaluation scores (i.e. you feel there hasn't been much change in skill level), you can opt out of skills today. We encourage you to come if you feel your child's level of play has increased since their last evaluation.

Even if your child does not go through evaluations today, we need you to drop off their medical release form, volunteer form and sign a Code of Conduct form at the fields.

We know it is cold and will work to get you all through evaluations quickly today. Bundle up and we'll see you at the fields!

Draft Scheduled for Feb. 21; Mandatory Managers/Coaches Meeting on Feb. 22

The Spring baseball and softball drafts will be held on Saturday, February 21st for all divisions. Times have yet to be determined, but we wanted to get this date on potential managers/coaches calendars.

There is a MANDATORY managers/coaches meeting and clinic on Sunday, February 22nd, from 1-3pm at BCLL. This will be followed by a mandatory safety meeting. These meetings are also open to all assistant coaches and parents in general. We encourage anyone interested in coaching or helping coach this season to attend these meetings. There will be a lot of helpful information shared.

We look forward to seeing you all as we kick off the new season!

New Dick's Sporting Goods Coupons Available

In 2014, Bull City Little League entered into a community partnership with Dick's Sporting Goods at Brier Creek. It was a very successful partnership for both parties, with Dick's providing us with equipment, being our primary sponsor for our Bat-a-thon fundraiser and hosting spring and fall shop days with coupons specifically for our league.

We will continue to partner with Dick's in the coming year. They have already provided us with new coupons that can be used now, and continue to be used through 2015. You can access the new coupons here. This is great for those of you who are still Christmas shopping for your ball player!

We'd like to thank Dick's Sporting Goods for their continued support of BCLL, and we look forward to another successful year working together!

Softball Clinic with UNC's Marissa Young a Success

On Saturday, November 22nd BCLL hosted a free pitching/catching softball clinic, featuring UNC Assistant Softball Coach Marissa Young.

About 50 girls took advantage of the chance to get great instruction from Young and had a lot of fun learning drills they can take home and practice during the offeseason.

BCLL gives a big thank you to UNC Softball and Marissa Young for helping our softball players grow and prepare for the spring.

Congratulations on Another Great Fall Season

BCLL wrapped up another great fall season. This fall marked our inaugural softball season, which was very successful.

We'd like to congratulate the following teams on their regular season and tournament titles:

  • Juniors: Rays, regular season and tournament champions
  • AAA National: Storm, undefeated regular season and tournament champions
  • AAA American: American Thunder, undefeated regular season and touranment champions
  • AA Machine Pitch: Eagles, regular season and tournament champions
  • A Rookie: Iron Pigs, regular season champions, and Sluggers, tournament champions
  • Softball Minors: Divas, regular season and tournament champions

Thanks to all for your participation this fall!

BCLL General Meeting to be Held on Tuesday, Nov. 11

BCLL will hold a general board meeting on Tuesday, November 11th. We will meet at Andy Jones' State Farm office, located at 4519 N Roxboro St, Durham, NC, at 6pm. Please note the change in meeting time. Everyone is invited to attend.

BCLL Board of Directors for the 2015 Fiscal Year

BCLL's annual meeting was held Thursday evening, October 16th, at the Town & Country building across from the fields.  We had a great turnout of parents who were interested in learning more about the operation of the league and in contributing their talents to maintaining and improving BCLL.

Some existing members were elected to new positions, and several new members were elected to the Board.  We sincerely thank those persons who attended, we welcome our new Board members, and we particularly thank those individuals who have not joined the Board, but have agreed to assist the Board and to serve on Commitees to assist in the support and management of the league.
