Boys' Town, Meadhaven draw first blood
Boys' Town beat Bull Bay 2-1 on Saturday to draw first blood in the first leg of the JNBS/KSAFA Super League final at the Harbour View mini-stadium. Oneil Thompson (49th) and Michael Campbell (55th) scored for Boys' Town, who were reduced to 10 men. Jermaine Taylor (76th) netted Bull Bay's lone goal.
In the Major League final, Meadhaven also took a one-goal advantage courtesy of Courtney Williams' 11th-minute strike. Greenwich Town captured third spot after a 4-3 win over Rae Town.
Boys' Town revealed their intent early when Troy Dawes' well-taken effort after three minutes had Bull Bay's keeper Andrew Land full stretch for a save.
Bull Bay responded when Asa McIntosh tested keeper Marvin Mundy, but he was well-positioned for the low drive.
Campbell produced the only other chance of the half, but his volley, after a good build-up, went straight to Land.
Two minutes into the second half, Boys' Town grabbed the lead when Thompson's 30-yard free kick eluded Land and found the net.
Bull Bay went further behind 12 minutes later.
Thompson charged through a crowded penalty area, but his effort rebounded off the bar and found Campbell, who headed home to give the 'Red Brigades' a two-goal cushion.
Six minutes later, Boys' Town went down to 10 men when Jermaine Bailey was red-carded for retaliation.
Bull Bay dominated possession from thereon.
Taylor was on target when he guided in a Demetrio Billets cross, and Bull Bay then pressed for the equaliser in the closing minutes.
Boys' Town's coach Andrew Price was pleased with his team's effort: "I wanted to have some advantage going into the second leg. I hoped to carry the two goals.
"But after getting a red card in the first 15 minutes of the second half, I think the team stood out and fought valiantly and I have to give a lot of praise to them."
Bull Bay's coach Barrington Gaynor said the result means his team will now have to come and play an attacking game in the second leg.
"More than anything else we have to come out and play attacking football. But we will not lose our shape, we are going to stick to our purpose and I know next Saturday we are going to get the job done," he said.
