Buffalo Panthers: Welcome

Saturday, August 23

Hello everyone!!! Welcome to the cyber home of the Buffalo Panthers.

This season marks the seventh year for the current incarnation of a franchise that has spanned over a decade in Buffalo's MUNY AA League. The team's roots began as the "St. James Zeniths" formed as an expansion team back in the late 1990's. This spirited bunch had a great mix of young talent and enjoyed some success, but ultimately could not sustain it with never ending roster turnover. About half of this roster was held over on a team under new management called "The Warriors." These were the "dark years" of the franchise. Although still a reasonably talented bunch, this group often had patched together lineups and invented new ways to lose on a seemingly weekly basis. After a few painful seasons, a new, more organized regime took over and created the "Buffalo Tap Room Cardinals". An immediate change was very noticeable. A few key acquisitions seemed to have this team headed in the right direction, but not quite enough to put it over the top yet. In the spring of 2006, the Buffalo Panthers were established. This group, with a few new additions continued to build on the success of previous campaigns and narrowly missed the playoffs. The Panthers made their first post-season appearance in 2007. After a first round exit they had their sites set on bigger things for the 2008 campaign. It was not to be and the team took a step backwards last season. The 2009 season brought a second trip to the postseason for the black and grey. A loss in the first round while disappointing, has given hope for the future. After 2 disappointing seasons in 2010 and 2011, a retooled roster in 2012 is eager to get on the field this summer.
