CHANGES

Well folks, for those familiar with the youth team for the past 6 years, you know of the struggles I have had in locating safe workout locations and individuals to assist with the youth program.  Due to several recent personal changes of families and assistant coaches that have been so important to the Youth Program for a very long time; the location of previous workout sites along the highway 50 corridor; and, my residence in the far north area along the highway 80 corridor....there will be a significant shift in the location of the Chips Youth Team geographical concentration.   I am unable to continually travel the 30 plus miles (one-way) to locate new workout sites (to make up for those that have been shut down); keep the previous assistant coaches enthused and active with the team; and attend all of the weekly workouts.  Additionally, no individual has come forth from either the Youth Team or the Buffalo Chips Adult Club to run the Youth Program in the same geographic location.  I refuse to let this valuable, low-cost, training and racing opportunity for youth die. Therefore, commencing immediately, the workout locations for the Youth Chips will now move to the Lincoln/Rocklin/Loomis geographical area where I can directly oversee the program once again.

For those individuals that wish to remain affiliated with a youth team, I will do what I can to help associate you with a local USATF team.  For those assistant coaches that have helped for so long, I and the CHIPS program thank you for your service to the Club and your dedication to the youth of the sport.  For those youth that will move on, I thank you for participating in our program and creating the many memories I will hold so dear.  For those that wish to remain with our program, I will shortly be revamping the website, workout locations, and initiating heavy recruitment at all elementary and Jr. High Schools in the Rocklin, Loomis and Lincoln Region.  I and at least one other assistant coach will recruit and call a first team meeting sometime in early Septemeber, and commence workouts immediately thereafter.

I sincerely apologize to the many youth and parents that this move will impact.  I did my best to keep things operating in the same geographical area for many years but now, the time has come for a change.

UPCOMING RACES

Placer High School Trail Runs 6/18 - 7/23

Thursday evenings at 6:00, Placer High School Track Parking Lot

Randall Fey, the XC Coach at Placer High is starting up his six week summer series of trail training for high school (and talented Jr. High Runners) on Thursday evenings starting in the Placer High Track parking lot.  The beginning of the series generally involves the lighter workouts, progressing to very difficult in the last couple of weeks.  These workouts are not for the faint-at-heart as they involve serious hill training.  The Buffalo Chips Youth sponsor the ice-cold watermellon and water after the race.  You will find elite, mid-level and beginning high school XC runners at these runs, and the workouts are broken down into these three groupings.  If you want to be ready for the fall, you owe it to yourself to give these runs some serious consideration.

BUFFALO CHIPS FREE JULY 4TH 5 MILE RUN

Saturday July 4th with sign-ups starting at 7:00 and the main race at 8:00.  I will be manning the aid station so say hig as you fly, run, jog or plod past.  Below is a link to location, race specifics and driving directions.

TIME TO START THINKING ABOUT XC ?????

For those that are winding down your track season, now is the time to start thinking about the Fall XC season.  This year, the USATF National XC Championships will be held in Reno Nevada.  The Pacific Association becomes our own Region for this Championship Race, so the Pacific Association will be able to send 3 teams of each gender and age group, plus 20 individuals, to Reno.

The Buffalo "BABES" are already "full steam ahead ready" and building multiple teams for our All-Star High School Intermediate and Young Women's Teams.  WOW!! Check out their website at:  http://eteamz.active.com/buffalobabes

As for the Youth Teams (Bantam, Midget and Youth) I need to find out who is currently interested in being on one of these teams.  We will have a coach/parent team meeting in early September to get the ball rolling.  Issues to cover will be: new singlets, workout times and locations, need for coaching and parent volunteers, recruitment and fund raising.  Keep checking back for updates.

Don't forget to add to your calendar the following local events for the summer:

July 4:     Buffalo Chips Running Club FREE 5 mile Run

July 18:    EPPIES GREAT RACE

July 25:    Sacramento 5K Championships

August 1:  Squaw Valley Mountain Run   http://www.squawmountainrun.com

If you are already in to starting up your trail and cross country running, checkout this GREAT series right here in our own backyard:  http://www.breakoutracing.com/  The Folsom Trail Runners have a 5K and 10K trail run/race every Thursday night at 6:15 through the end of June.  Either myself or Coach Lili will be there starting May 21, 2009.

Additionally, if you are looking to get away from the Sacramento heat during the summer weekends, here are some more great trail running events along the coast.  Be prepared to walk/run these events as they are tough, beautiful, and worth the trip.  WOW, just think of the shape you will be in come this fall http://www.pctrailruns.com/

If you are just seeing our website for the first time, the first time in a long time, or are checking back to see whats' happening...give me an email and let me know what has been going on in your life, workouts, competition or whatever.  I will begin posting some of these tidbits to share in June.

We may have slowed down this past season, but we're coming back HARD and FAST to show em' how it's done;     'Cuz if the YOUTH Chips aren't there...IT AINT A RACE'!!!
