SUNDAY -FIONA sets PAL mile record - 5:17.1 (76, 80, 81.5, 79.7) - She broke her own record from last year by 5 seconds.
FIONA also gets a PINK time in the 400 - 63.4 440 yd dash = 63.03 converted. ERICA with SB's in 3 different races.
ERICA logs 6:27 for the mile, 78 in the 440, and 36.9 for the 220. Stay Strong, Erica!

EMILY - First meet ever - sub-6 mile (5:56.5) and 2:44.91 800m for the 6th grader. What a debut!!
What a crack-up: Emily begins her track career racing against JO and Youth National Champion Clare Carroll in her first-ever race and comes back against the Renisha Robinson (Sac State mile record-holder) and the 2011 SJS 800m and 1600m Section Champions (Teresa Mallory of Sac State and Madeleine) in her second race. Whew, only gets easier from here

In her 800 heat vs 2 Sac State girls and 5 from Stanford she took 2nd place. Those 7 girls combined have done hundreds of 800 meter races. It was Maggie's first. In her 400 heat versus all high school girls, she led wire to wire and despite not being pushed (she won by 3 1/2 seconds), still smashed her PR by over a second with a very rare sub-minute junior high 400m. For both races and all heats combined, Maggie beat all but one high school girl she raced against and 12 of the 21 open (collegiate) girls. She was the only jr. high girl in either event

Got that 2:30 feeling? Kendall, Kaitlin, and Kristi did. And their solution was to run a fast 800. On March 10th all three of them burst through the 2:30 barrier in the same race. It was a PR for all of them, giving the Buffalo Babes 5 girls that are under 2:30 on our 12-girl junior high roster. Earlier Maggie was on pace for a PR but was a bit sick and settled for a very respectable 60:05, just off her time from the Cal All-Comers Meet by a tenth of a second. To start the day, Kendall and Kaitlin were matched up in the 1500m with women from CSU-Hayward, St Marys, William Jessup, American River College, and Santa Clara among others. With a dazzling late dash Kendall won her heat with a 5:02.12 followed in 5th place by Kaitlin in 5:05.70. Kendall's time converts to a 5:24.33 1600m and Kaitlin's converts to 5:28.17. (Lap 1 = 83, Lap 2 = 81, Lap 3 = 82.)

3/16/12 - Trojan Invitational - Oak Ridge HS, El Dorado Hills - Results - Photos
Facing horrible weather with decent distance temperatures but wind and sideways rain (heavy at times), the Buffalo Babes still managed to dominate the small meet and post some very respectable times. In a sporting event that at times resembled a cross between a swim meet and a track meet, the Babes splashed to six medals and several PR's. Good job girls in rather tough conditions.

PRIDE O' THE IRISH - On the same day her family moved from Gold River to the town of Davis, our favorite Irish lass Fiona O'Keeffe battled the college girls and took third place in her heat with a splendid season-opening time of 4:56.18 (converts to 5:17.95 1600m). Her PR was 4:49 last year, but this is a season best and a great way to start the 2012 campaign.

3/24/12 - Revolution Express Meet - Rocklin HS, Rocklin - Results - Photos
DODGING A BULLET. NO RAIN! as Briana, Emily, Michaela, Maggie, Fiona, and Sarah shine under the overcast skies in Rocklin. Forecast was 100% chance of rain, but nary a drop as BB's set several PR's.
Michaela got new season bests in the 800 and 1500. Briana was the #1 Buffalo Babe in the Youth 800. Emily PR'd by almost 6 seconds in the 800m and had a great 5:22 debut in the 1500 meters. Sarah's 800 PR from Wednesday was short-lived as she broke the 2:40 barrier and almost beat both of the splendid Warwick twins in the 1500m with a great 5:16. Fiona showed she is ahead of last year's pace by evidence of a super 4:51.96... #2 in the nation for youth girls. Maggie tries the unusual 200/1500 double with spectacular results. Her 4:47.21 - best as we can tell - is the nation's leading mark for youth girls. Not bad for her first race ever of more than 2 laps. Maggie returned with a 27.44 200 meters (with starting blocks!) and blew her heat away by over a second. (Video on facebook.) Wow. Can't wait for the 100m/3000m double next meet.

Update: Girls 1600. That had to be tough. 103 degree heat in the prelims does in Maxine, but Christine clocks a very respectable 5:04 for 16th out of 33. Faith Makau becomes only the 2nd SJS girl all year to go under 5:00 and makes the 12-man finals in 4:59. Final: Nikki Hiltz of Aptos, wins by 5 seconds (4:42.45) over Rebecca Mehra of Palos Verdes. Chapus 5th, Makau 11th.
Update: Girls 800. Marisa Carino does her best to qualify for finals with an excellent 2:15, finishing in 18th out of 26 in the prelims. The other SJS girls were 2:14 and 2:15... a good showing. Sr. Amy Weissenbach repeats as state champ with a 2:05, Sr. Savannah Camacho second again in 2:09.
Update: Girls 3200. 2-time Buffalo Babe Julia Maxwell of Branson School in Marin climbs the podium to nab 4th place with a 10:27. Madeleine 9th in 10:38, Karlie 20th in 10:54...30 runners overall. Soph. Sarah Baxter repeats as 2-mile champ with a 10:12 flat. Xochitl Navarette gets a silver medal (10:25) to go along with an earlier bronze in the 1600.

What a crack-up: Emily begins her track career racing against JO and Youth National Champion Clare Carroll in her first-ever race and comes back against the Renisha Robinson (Sac State mile record-holder) and the 2011 SJS 800m and 1600m Section Champions (Teresa Mallory of Sac State and Madeleine) in her second race. Whew, only gets easier from here.
