More about Foot Locker West
The Foot Locker Series is the most presigous high-school-age individual national championship in America. There are 4 regions and California is one of 13 states in the West Region. The top ten finishers at the 4 regional races (in the Seeded Race only) advance to Foot Locker Nationals the next week where the runners travel to San Diego and spend 3 nights at Hotel Del Coronado - at no expense. It is an unforgettable experience - just ask Karlie Garcia or Clare Carroll - and you meet every other fast runner in the nation. The Top 10 runners qualify for Foot Locker Nationals, while the Top 24 runners are regarded as All-West Region.
There are also many other races that day, the next biggest of which is the Frosh/Soph All-West Regional race. There is another Frosh/Soph race, but the All-West race is the one to be in. The Top 24 runners here are named All-West Region in the Frosh/Soph division. Marisa Carino, Sierra Jaeger, Ellie Velez, Lauren Stanislaw, and Katie Mersereau earned this distinction in 2011. There is also a middle school race, Junior-only race, and Senior-only race.
What race do I enter? Want to race the best and don't care about where you finish, or think you have a shot at Nationals? Race seeded. Want to race against a strong - but not elite-level - field? Race Junior or Senior only. Chances are much better that you'll medal. Frosh or Soph and just want some Mt SAC experience vs. a shot at Nationals? Race in the Frosh/Soph All-Region race. Not the first Frosh/Soph race. The 2nd one is a much bigger deal, podium awards, similar fields, and you get an hour extra sleep.
