Buffalo Babes Semi-Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why are we called the 'Buffalo Babes'?
A: The older girl's Buffalo Chips age groups have affectionately been called the 'Buffalo Babes' ever since the team was started several years ago when the girls were in middle school. It first applied to Katie Briscoe, Erin Wachter and others in the Youth Girls age group. After the Youth Girls took second in the nation under team leader and national champion Caitlin Chock, Katie Briscoe's mom gave the 2000 team bracelets that said "Buffalo Babes" and the name has stuck. The bracelets were given to the girls at the Nugget Hotel in Reno and the idea for Joe to continue this tradition was also born at the 2000 Junior Olympics. The Buffalo Babes have been a national distance force ever since.

Q: Why are we called the Buffalo Chips?
A: Apparently there was a group of men back in the 70's in Sacramento that ran for fun and would go to the old Buffalo Tavern to replenish their calories. Eventually they wanted to be in a race and needed a sponsor, so the tavern owner agreed with the condition that the team name themselves...the 'Buffalo Chips'.

Q: What are the Junior Olympics and how much longer after the high school season ends do I have to run?
A: Most of the Buffalo Babes will qualify for the HS state meet. You only have to run for another week or two.   Now, 'why' would you want to do the Jr. Olympics? For one, you're not going to take your break until mid-December, so why not compete why you're still running. Secondly, instead of running vs. girls your age from one state, you have a chance to race against some of the nation's finest - and have a blast doing it. No, it is not as competitive as Foot Locker or a few other meets. But only 10 girls from 13 western states will qualify for the National Foot Locker finals. With Junior Olympics, you know you are going. It's almost a sure thing. The top 25 girls (and then some) at any Jr. Olympic race are all college material, and earn All-American status to boot. College coaches think highly of athletes interested enough in the sport to compete in club running in addition to high school.

Q: Regarding my training, what has priority? What my high school coach is telling me or something the Chips coaching staff may have recommended?
A: Your high school coach has complete control over your training and the Buffalo Chips completely defer to them during the high school season. They even may set restrictions after your XC season because track season is approaching. All we need is for you to give an honest effort no matter who is training you and for you to run your absolute hardest at the JO's. Our goal is to get as many people as possible on that podium at nationals.
