The BUFFALO BABES are the high school girls division of the Buffalo Chips Running Club / Youth Chips. Each year many of the best distance runners in the Sac-Joaquin Section (and Northern California) are invited to join the Buffalo Babes. The Buffalo Babes travel around the country and run as teams at the National Junior Olympics in December and the USA Cross Country Championships in February. In addition, the Buffalo Babes have social functions and volunteer at area events.

Katie Drueen of Modesto High, who just decided on Notre Dame, is running in the Boston Marathon Mon 4/21. She decided to focus on this instead of HS track, so that's quite a commitment. She leaves for Boston Thurs. (a little sightseeing before the race) and the race itself is Mon. Her bib # is 10025 if you want to follow along. They'll have 5k splits on the event website.
Katie Drueen finishes the 26.2 in 3:37:15. 8:18 pace. She's a top 2000 female and in the top 1500 for her 18-39 age group. WAY TO GO KATIE!! There were 25,000 runners overall. She had some lingering foot soreness at mile 7 which didn't go away but she stayed on her goal pace of 7:45 for 20 miles until it became a bit of a struggle. But she finished (and no walking!) and was under 3:40 which qualified her for Boston '09 so that's a nice bonus. BTW local woman Midori Sperandeo was 89th (2:49) in the US Olympic Trials in Boston the day before. Pretty good for a 2-time mom, eh? California women went 1-2-3 in the trials led by Deena Kastor.

RESULTS IN - LAURYNNE IS AMAZING!!!!!!
On a course with a massive hill they had to do twice, Laurynne posts a 6K time of 21:19... a 32-second 6k PR. She was the #3 American (almost #2), 29th overall. Team USA was 6th, 5 points out of 4th.
USA Jr. Women's Team
Jr. Men's Race - 8k - German #1 American! USA 6th here too.
LAURYNNE AT THE WORLD MEET IN SCOTLAND - 3/30/08 - POST-RACE
"I really liked it. The hill was not as intimidating as it seemed yesterday, when we jogged through the course. I really just let everything get rolling on the downhills. When we went around turns, people were bumping into each other. I almost had to start walking. I learned here that I have to get out much slower and then move up. I know that Lauren (Saylor) was talking about it before the race, about trying it, and we had nothing to lose.” from John Nepolitan's Dyestat blog
LAURYNNE AT THE WORLD MEET IN SCOTLAND - 3/29/08 - PRE-RACE
"Looks like the hill is pretty challenging…I am really glad that the weather is holding up…I am just honored to be running with so many accomplished runners…I am going to learn so much from this experience” Her highlight so far – “Getting to know all of these people. A lot of them I have never met before and some I have met at Foot Locker, so it is nice to get to know them better. It has been great to be able to talk to the professional athletes and to be able to visit Edinburgh. I have never been to Scotland, so for all of this to be free is awesome.” from John Nepolitan's Dyestat blog
LAURYNNE AT THE WORLD MEET IN SCOTLAND - 3/26/08 - 1ST DAY
Hi everyone!,
The trip here was long and tiring, but we've finally arrived. The weather, fortunately, isn't too bad; it's not raining and it's not too cold. We're staying in dorm rooms on the campus which is right next to the park where the race will take place. That's definitely a big plus! We're going to head out soon for some sight seeing, so I'll let you know how that goes. So far though, Edinburgh is somewhat bleak, gloomy, and sleepy looking with dark, yet beautiful buildings. The city is situated right next to the coast with lucious, green, rolling hills. The running trails nearby are great and as they snake uphill, they provide amazing views of the coast and the different parts of the city. I hope everything is going well in the states. Talk to you soon,
Laurynne
