Monday, August 13
Roth Brothers finish at 31-4 after finishing 4th in NABF Regional

YOUNGSTOWN--- A great start to the 2007 NABF Regional ended in disappointment after Roth lost to St. John's (Pittsburgh) 11-4 Sunday and then blew a 7-0 lead in the 6th inning versus Cleveland Veterans to fall 10-7. The Veterans scored 9 times in the sixth to overtake Roth and eventually win and knock Roth out of the tournament. Even though the season ended sooner than expected, Roth finishes 31-4 with another Youngstown "AA" Title. Congratulations on a great season. As soon as i receive the scorebook, i will put the final stats in.

All games but cancelled Thursday, Roth plays at 730 tonight

Due to the weather on Thursday, only 2 games completed. Go Veterans defeated the defending champion Mosquitoes 6-3 and Canton Pizza Oven beat Winking Lizard 4-0. All other 1st round games will take place today.

2007 NABF Regional Begins Thursday

The 2007 NABF Regional Tournament will begin Thursday August 9th in Youngstown at Pemberton Park and Oakland Field. Roth Brothers will play the feature 8pm game at Pemberton Park. The tournament draw will be held tonight to determine the bracket and matchups. This is a double elimination tournament in which the the winner travels to Kentucky for the NABF World Series. Last year's Youngstown Regional winner was the Cleveland Mosquitoes who eventually won the NABF World Series. Last years Youngstown teams placed 3rd (Bud's) and 6th (Tri-County) overall. Roth Brothers and Tamburro's will be the 2 Youngstown Teams in the tournament. Roth Bros. are 29-2 while Tamburro's are 18-9. The bracket will be posted as soon as it is received.

Thursday, July 26
Johnny Hay and Adam Cox key Roth to AA title, 8-0

Roth Brothers won the
best-of-five series, 3-2, over
the Youngstown Metros.

YOUNGSTOWN — John Hay pitched a three-hitter while Adam Cox slugged a homer and double and drove in three runs, as Roth Brothers blanked Youngstown Metros, 8-0, to win the championship of the Class AA League best-of-five series Wednesday at Pemberton-Donnell Park.

George Rohan added a triple, double and one RBI to aid Roth Brothers, which took the series, 3-2.

Sean Wardle had a double and one RBI and Jim Putko a pair of singles to help the winners.

Starter John Warren took the loss for the Metros, giving up five hits and five runs over three innings.



Wednesday, July 25
Metros even series at 2

In game 4, Joe Irwin scattered eight hits over eight innings as Youngstown Metros edged Roth Brothers, 2-1.

Armani Johnson walked leading off the bottom of the eighth inning. He moved to second on an error and scored the deciding run for Metros on a single by Tom Clayton.

C.J. Morris of Metros was hit by a pitched ball leading off the bottom of the seventh. He moved to second on a ground out and scored on a single by John Warren to tie the scored 1-1.


With two out in the top of the third inning, Eric Barone, Eric Jones and Wardle hit successive singles. Mike Sikorsky walked forcing in Barone for Roth Brothers' only run of the game.

Clayton hit three singles and John Mang to singles for the Metros. Jones hit a double and two singles for Roth Brothers.

Roth goes up 2-1 in the series

YOUNGSTOWN — Roth Brothers defeated Youngstown Metros, 6-5, on Monday at Pemberton Park to take a 2-1 lead in the Youngstown AA League's best-of-five championship round.

Mike Sikorski led Roth with three hits, one a double, and two runs scored. Josh Conkey had two hits.

Jim Pasquine's two hits included a double and he scored twice for Metros. Also with two hits were Armani Johnson, John warren and Jason Davis. C.J. Morris drove in two runs.

Metros, Roth split AA series' opening games

YOUNGSTOWN — Roth Brothers and Youngstown Metros continue their Class AA League championship series tonight at Pemberton Park at 6:15 p.m. after splitting the first two games.

In game one, Roth got 16 hits and won, 10-2.

That was followed by the Metros' 5-4 win when the deciding run was delivered in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the first game, Mike Sikorski had two doubles and a home run for four RBIs, while Eric Jones had three hits and three RBIs.

John Hay's five-hitter included four strikeouts and limited the Metros, who got the hits from Grant Sevek, Armani Johnson, Tom Clayton, Cameron Cimino and Joe Irwin.

In the Metros' one-run victory, Sevek scored on an error with Clayton at bat.

Jim Pasquine knocked in two runs and Dom Modarelli doubled for the winners, while Jim Putko and Sean Wardle doubled for Roth. Winning pitcher Joe Fox gave up six hits.

Roth committed five errors.



Friday, July 20
Roth sweeps their way into the championship series

YOUNGSTOWN---A night after a 1-0 pitchers dual, Roth put up 4 in the first inning on their way to a 14-0 series clinching win. Roth scored in all 5 innings as they will await the winner of the Tamburros/Metros series which was PPD do to rain Thursday night. Shane Davis and Joe Bettura had 3 hits a piece to pace Roth. Bettura drove in 3 while Davis drove in 2 with 2 doubles. George Rohan had 2 run triple in the 1st. With the game shortened to 5 innings, John Hay (9-0) picked up the win allowing 0 runs on 3 hits. Josh Conkey pitched a scoreless 4th and Joe Marzano pitched a perfect 5th. Roth will now sit and await for the winner between Tamburros and Metros. Games 1 and 2 of the championship series will be held Sunday July 22nd beginning at 5pm at Pemberton Park.

Game 1 pitchers dual goes to Roth Brothers

YOUNGSTOWN---Dave Yost threw a 2 hit shutout as Roth scored 1 in the bottom of the seventh to earn the victory. The game turned on a strikeout by Rick Gozur, but he was able to reach 1st on a throwing error by Adam Wolfgang. After a walk to Mike Sikorski, Paul Kello was inserted to pinch run for Gozur. Kello proceeded to steal 3rd base. Pitcher Matt Kearney intentionally  walked George Rohan to load the bases with one out. After a strikeout, Joe Bettura came through with a 2 out game winning single up the middle to score Kello and take a 1-0 series lead. For Tri-County, pitcher Matt Kearney pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing 0 earned runs on 3 hits. He struck out 9 batters. Dave Yost (7-0) pitched all 7 innings, allowing 2 hits while striking out 9 for the win. The three hits by Roth were collected by Rick Gozur, Eric Barone, and Joe Bettura. Roth leads the best of 3 series (1-0). Game 2 will be Thursday night at 6:15pm at Pemberton Park.

       In game 1 between Tamburros and Metros, Tamburro's came back from a 3-1 deficit in the 6th to win 6-3. Tamburro's leas the series 1-0 and will play Thursday following the Roth vs Tri-County game.

Roth Brothers finish regular season at perfect 24-0

    Roth Brothers earned their 24th straight win this season Sunday due to the 2nd consecutive forfeit versus Warren "AA" opponents. Roth finishes the regular season at 24-0. The playoffs will begin Wednesday night at Pemberton Park at 8:15 for Roth. They will play the winner of the Penn-Ohio/Tri-County play in game.

Saturday, July 14
Long ball in game 1, pitching in game 2 leads Roth to doubleheader wins

YOUNGSTOWN--- Roth Brothers ran its unbeaten streak to 23 games Friday night as they defeated New Hamburgh 9-1 and Tri-County 5-0 at Oakland Field. In game one, someone other than Mike Sikorski left the yard as Adam Cox and Rick Gozur hit homeruns. Mike Sikorski added his 5th of the season as well. Shane Davis was the only Roth player to collect 2 or more hits as the home runs cleared the bases. John Hay pitched 4 innings allowing 1 runs while striking out 5 for the win (8-0). Paul Kello threw the last 3 allowing 0 runs on 1 hit to earn the save.
    In the nightcap, Roth Brothers only managed 4 hits but walked 12 times to score their 5 runs. Josh Conkey went 6 innings for the victory allowin no runs on only 2 hits. He struck out 8. Joe Marzano closed the game off with a perfect 7th while striking out 2. Adam Cox was 1-1 with a double and 3 walks. He also stole a base and scored 2 runs. Roth is now 23-0 and will play Girard Hardware Sunday at 230 at Pemberton Park in the last regular season game before playoffs begin next Wednesday.


Monday, July 9
Roth comes back from 4-1 deficit to win 9-6, now 21-0

YOUNGSTOWN---Penn-Ohio put a 4 spot up in the first inning, but Roth battled back and won 9-6 Monday night at Pemberton Park. John Hay pitch 5 innings to earn his team leading 7th victory of the season. Through 5 innings, Hay allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits and struck out 4. Adam Cox made his first ever "AA" appearance on the hill, throwing 2 innings and not giving up an earned run to earn the hold. At the plate, Jim Putko had 3 hits including a double and 3 RBI's. Eric Jones had 2 hits including a triple, while Adam Cox, Joe Marzano, and Mark Nightingale each had 2 hits. Joe Bettura had 2 RBI's. Roth is now 21-0 and will play Metros in a doubleheader Wednesday night at Oakland Field beginning at 6:15pm.

Roth moves to 20-0

Warren---Apparently PI&I Express did not want to play Roth Brothers in the sweltering heat Sunday afternoon at Packard Park because not one member of the team showed up. With the forfeit, Roth Brothers moves to 20-0 on the year and are one game away from clinching first place in the Youngstown AA League. Roth will next play Monday at Pemberton Park at 6:15pm versus Penn-Ohio.

Saturday, July 7
Roth beats Jamestown 9-1

YOUNGSTOWN--- Roth ran its record to 19-0 by defeating Jamestown 9-1 Friday night at Pemberton Park. Dave Yost (6-0) threw a complete game 4 hit shutout, striking out 11 for Roth. At the plate, Shane Davis had 2 hits including a triple and 2 RBI's. Joe Beturran had 2 hit including a double and an RBI. Eric Jones and Joe Marzano each had 2 hits a piece. Roth is now 19-0 and will play at 4pm Sunday in Warren.

Roth stays unbeaten, now 18-0

YOUNGSTOWN---Roth Brothers defeated Tamburros for the 4th time this season as they won 4-2 Monday night at Pemberton Park. John Hay won his 6th game of the year as he went all 7 scattering 8 hits while not allowing an earned run. Offensively, Adam Coxand Joe Bettura had 2 hits a piece. Roth, now 18-0 and ranked #2 in Ohio's latest poll will be off until Friday when they play at 830pm at Pemberton Park.

Roth continues dominance versus Warren "AA" league

WARREN--- Roth Brothers put up 5 runs in the first on route to a 10-0 win versus Callahan's Irish Pub. Dave Yost pitched a complete game 4 hit shutout to run his record to 5-0. Mike Sikorski was 4-4 with a double and 2 RBI's. Shane Davis was 3-4 with a double and 3 RBI's. George Rohan was 3-5 with 2 runs and 2 stolen bases. Mark Nightingale and Eric Barone each had 2 hits a piece. Roth is now 17-0 and will finish up their season series with Tamburro's at Pemberton Park at 615pm Monday. Roth is 3-0 versus Tamburro's this season.

Roth plays 17 innings and gets 2 more wins

YOUNGSTOWN---Roth Brothers moved to 16-0 Monday night by defeating the Metros 11-5 and Tamburro's 5-4 in 10 innings. In game one versus the Metros, the bats started off hot as Roth put up 10 runs in the first 2 innings. Led by Mike Skiorski's 3 run home run and RBI double, the 1st 5 hitters in the Roth lineup each scored twice in the first 2 innings. Adam Cox was 3-4 with a double, RBI, and 2 runs scored. Sikorski finished 2-3 with a HR, double and 4 RBI's. Eric Jones, George Rohan, and Mark Nightingale each added 2 hits as well. Josh Conkey threw a complete game, striking out 7 while scattering 7 hits to earn the win,
            In the nite cap, a game which lasted 10 innings, and saw 25 hits between the 2 teams, finally ended with Roth prevailing on a Josh Conkey Sacrifice fly to score Mike Sikorski. Roth led 2-0 going into the 6th when Tamburro's scored 2 on a Rob Tamburro single to tie the game. Tamburro's then scored 2 more in the top of the 8th to take the lead 4-2. In the home half of the 8th, Adam Cox led off with a double, Eric Jones singled and stole second. Rick Gozur delivered a 1 out 2 run single to keep the game going. Roth had a chance in the 9th with a leadoff double by Joe Marzano, but failed to capitalize. In the 10th after a superb double play by Eric Barone, Roth was able to win the game. Mike Sikorski led off with a single. Rick Gozur then sacrificed Sikorski over with a bunt and because of a mental mistake by Tamburro's pitcher, Sikorski and Gozur were both safe on the bases. After a wild pitch, George Rohan was then intenionally walked to load the bases. Josh Conkey then deleivered the game winning RBI with a sac fly to left that plated Sikorski. Offensively, Sikorski was 3-5 with 2 triples. Adam Cox doubled twice. Rick Gozur was 3-4 with 3 RBI's, while Joe Marzano singled and doubled. Lost in the mix was starting pitcher Jeremy Hedegore who went 7 innings, allowed 1 earned run and struck out 6. He received the no decision. Paul Kello pitched 3 solid innings in relief dispite miscues defensively. Kello picked up his 1st win of the year allowing only 1 earned run and striking out 2 hitters. Roth is now 16-0 and will play another doubleheader Wednesday at Oakland Field at 6:15pm versus Tri-County.

Roth Brothers destroys 11th ranked MV Knights

YOUNGSTOWN--- All 10 Roth hitters scored in the third inning to help Roth 10 run the 11th ranked Mahoning Valley Knights 13-0 Sunday night at Pemberton Park. Josh Conkey was 2-3 with a triple and 2 RBI's. Adam Cox, Jim Putko, and Mark Nightingale also had 2 hits a piece. Shane Davis drove in 2 runs with a double, while Joe Bettura also drove in 2. Dave Yost went all five innings, only allowing 1 hit and striking out 2. Roth is now 14-0 and will play a double header Monday at Pemberton Park at 6:15.

Roth Bros. welcome Andover with 10-0 win

YOUNGSTOWN---Roth Brothers scored 7 runs in the first 2 innings on route to a 10-0 win versus Andover at Oakland Field Friday night. Mike Sikorski had a perfect 4-4 night with a double and an RBI. Adam Cox was 3-3 with a double and 2 RBI's. Joe Bettura had 2 singles, while Eric Jones added a triple and 2 RBI's. John Hay remains unbeaten as he pitched all 5 innings, allowed 0 runs on 4 hits while striking out 4. Roth is now 13-0 and will play the Knights from the Warren "AA" league Sunday at 730.

Roth mercy rules Tri County, now 12-0

YOUNGSTOWN--- Josh Conkey allowed 2 hits as Roth defeated Tri-County 10-0 Wednesday night at Pemberton Park. Conkey now (3-0) did not yield a run while striking out 6 hitters. Paul Kello got some work in the 6th striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced. Offensively, Roth only managed 6 hits versus Tri-County pitching, but scored 10 runs largely in part to the 8 walks and 4 hit batters. Eric Jones was 1-3 with an RBI triple and 2 runs scored. Adam Cox scored 3 runs, singled, and stole a base. Joe Bettura singled and drove in 2 runs. Roth is now 12-0 and will play Friday at 815pm at Oakland Field versus Andover.

Roth Brothers finish strong, now 11-0

YOUNGSTOWN---In a lack luster performance for 6 innings, Roth Brothers found themselves tied at 3 in the top of the seventh inning. Finally the bats awoke and Roth tacked on 5 in the 7th to win 8-3 versus Penn-Ohio Monday night. In that 7th, Mike Sikorski started the rally with a one out single. George Rohan walked. Joe Marzano broke out of an 0 for 12 slump with an RBI single that plated go ahead run Sikorski. Joe Bettura then singled in Rohan. Eric Barone then singled in Marzano and Bettura. After singles by Adam Cox and Eric Jones, Jim Putko hit a sac fly to add another run and make the score 8-3. At the plate, Eric Jones was 3-4 with a double and an RBI. Joe Bettura was 2-4 with an RBI, and Eric Barone was 2-3 with 2 RBI's. Jim Putko added 2 RBI's. Dave Yost went 6 strong innings allowing 1 earned run, while striking out 6 to earn the win (3-0). Joe Marzano mopped up the seventh to close the game. Roth is now 11-0 and will play Tri County Wednesday at 8:15pm at Pemberton Park.

Roth ten runs Reds, 3rd straight mercy ruled game

WARREN--- Mike Sikorski clobbered his 3rd homerun of the year to help Roth move to 10-0 on the year by defeating the Warren Reds 10-0 Sunday in Warren. Roth as a team had 13 base hits as they thoroughly handled the Reds. Offensively, Barry Wardle was 3-3 with 3 RBI's. Joe Bettura, Rick Gozur, and George Rohan each had 2 hits. John Hay moved to 4-0 on the year with an impressive outing going 7 innings, alowing 0 runs, scattering 5 hits and striking out 7. Roth is now 10-0 and will play Monday at Pemberton at 6:15pm versus Penn-Ohio.

Roth 10 runs Hickory, now 9-0

YOUNGSTOWN--- Youngstown Roth Brothers welcomed Hickory to Oakland Field and Youngstown "AA" baseball by ten running them in a 5-inning game. Jim Putko led the offensive attack going 3-4 with 3 RBI's. Mark Nightingale was 2-3 with 3 RBI's. Eric Barone had a bases clearing double in the 5th as well. Mike Sikorski also doubled twice for Roth. Josh Conkey picked up his 2nd win of the season (2-0) as he went all 5 innings, allowing 0 runs on 3 hits, while striking out 4. Roth is now 9-0.

Roth Brothers moves to 8-0

YOUNGSTOWN--- Roth scored 5 times in the first and 12 for the game as they defeated Penn-Ohio 12-2 in a 5 inning game. Roth centerfielder Eric Jones was 3-4 with a single, double, and triple driving in 2 runs. Eric Barone and Joe Iacobucci each has 2 singles. Adam Cox, Jim Putko, and Mark Nightingale each had extra base hits. Nightingale drove in 3 with his bases clearing double in the 1st. Greg Mentrek continued his AA dominance and ran his no hit streak to 11 2/3 innings until he finally gave up a hit in the fifth inning to Jason Martin. Mentrek picked up his second win of the season. He did allow 2 earned runs on only 1 hit, struck out 5 but walked 8 and hit a batter. Roth is now 8-0 and will play Hickory Friday at oakland at 630pm.

Roth takes twin bill, now 7-0

YOUNGSTOWN--- In game 1 at Pemberton Park Monday night, Roth Bros defeated McMurphy/Penn-Ohio 6-3. Pitcher Dave Yost went 6 innings where he allowed 2 earned runs and struck out 8 for the win. Greg Mentrek pitched a perfect seventh to earn the save. Offensively, 4 of Roth's 6 hits were doubles. Jim Putko, Rick Gozur, Josh Conkey, and Eric Barone all doubled. Mark Nightingale and Putko both had 2 RBI's.
             In the nightcap at Pemberton, Roth came back from a 5-2 deficit to win 8-5 versus the Metros in extra innings. John Hay allowed 5 runs in the first 3 innings, but recovered and shut the Metros down to earn his 3rd victory of the season. Hay struck out 9 as he also picked up his 3rd complete game of the year. Offensively, Mike Sikorski hit a solo homer in the 2nd and then followed that up with a 3-run go ahead home run in the 8th inning. Sikorski was 2-3 with 2 homeruns and 4 RBI's. Jim Putko was red hot as he was 4-4 with a double and an RBI. George Rohan had 2 doubles while Adam Cox had 2 hits. Roth is now 7-0 and will play Wednesday at 6pm at Oakland.

Roth dumps previously unbeaten

YOUNGSTOWN--- Warren AA's Champion Marlins led until Roth broke the game open in the 5th. Roth shortstop Josh Conkey was 3-3 with a double and 3RBI's. Mike Sikorski was 2-3 with a double, while Rick Gozur added a 2-run single. On the mound, Jeremy Hedegore went the first 3 innings, allowing 1 earned run while striking out 5. Josh Conkey earned the victory in relief throwing 4 innings, giving up no runs, 2 hits, while striking out 4. Roth is now 5-0 and will play a doubleheader Monday at Pemberton Park, starting at 6pm.

Late inning rally propels Roth in extras

YOUNGSTOWN--- Youngstown Tamburro scored 2 unearned runs to lead the game 2-0 into the sixth inning. Tamburro pitcher Keith Jackson kept the Roth hitters at bay until then. In the sixth, George Rohan tripled in Barry Wardle and Jim Putko followed that up by doubling in Rohan to tie the game. John Hay pitched all 8 innings for Roth allowing 2 unearned runs, while striking out seven. Eric Barone started the rally in the 8th with a one out single up the middle. Adam Cox then singled and stole second. After a walk by Rohan, Jim Putko added his third hit of the game driving in barone for the winning run. With the win John Hay is 2-0 and 12-0 over the last 2 seasons. Roth is now 4-0 and will take on New Hamburgh Friday night at Pemberton Park at 630pm.

Mentrek tosses no-no

YOUNGSTOWN-Roth pitcher Grek Mentrek started his season off right by throwing a no hitter friday night at Oakland Field versus Tri-County. Mentrek was untouchable as he went the distance, striking out 8 hitters. He did allow 4 walks and a hit batter as he is battling back from an injury filled season a year ago. Roth hitter didn't waste any time as they scored 5 times in the first 3 innings, final score 5-0. At the plate, Joe Marzano was 2-3 with an RBI. Adam Cox, Mike Sikorski, Jeremy Hedegore, Josh Conkey, and Eric Barone all added singles for winners. Roth is now 3-0 and will play Sunday at Pemberton 230pm versus Girard Hardware.

Roth wins behind solid pitching effort

YOUNGSTOWN-Dave Yost threw a complete game to lead Roth Brothers to an 8-2 victory. Yost allowed only 1 earned run, while scattering 6 hits and striking out 7 batters. At the plate, Mike Sikorski and Joe Marzano both doubled and singled and drove in 3 runs each. Jeremy Hedegore had 2 hits, while Adam Cox was pesky on the bases as he doubled and walked 3 times, while stealing 2 bases. Roth is now 2-0 and will play Tri-County Friday.

Roth wins season opener in Warren

WARREN--- Roth defeated Skiffey AC from the Warren league 7-1 Sunday in the 2007 season opener. John Hay went all 9 innings allowing 1 run while striking out 13 batters to earn his first victory of the year. George Rohan had 3 hits for Roth. Roth will play McMurphy/Penn-Ohio Wednesday night at 6:15 at Oakland.

Roth Brothers/Bud's will open up the season Friday night at Pemberton Park at 8:15pm versus Youngstown Tamburro's. There will be practice held Wednesday at 6pm at Columbiana Firestone Park. Thursday practice will be held at 630pm at Ipes Field. Uniforms, schedules, and contracts will be distributed at these practices in preparation for opening day.

Bud's announces Merger with Roth Brothers

The 2007 Bud's/ DiCioccio baseball team merged with Roth Brothers today. The team was forced to merge due to the low number of players on the 2007 roster. The website will be undergoing construction to prepare for the changes in 2007. All Bud's players have a spot with Roth.

Bud's/DiCioccio Construction Finish Season at 31-7

Buffalo West Herr defeated Bud's Sunday afternoon to end Bud's chance at the NABF World Series. It was the third straight game the 2 teams met in 2 days. Buffalo got off to a quick start and jumped ahead 2-0. Bud's would tie it in the 4th at 3, but Bud's stranded too many baserunners and fell to Buffalo 6-3. Bud's finishes the season at 31-7 (3-2 in the NABF Regional). Thanks goes out to every member of Bud's for a great year, including all the pickups and our sponsors. Bats Get Hot, Win 11-3

    Bud's/ DiCioccio Construction wouldn't go away as they piled up 11 runs defeating Buffalo West Herr 11-3. With the win, Bud's is one of three teams left to play tomorrow. Chad Baker was dominating as he threw 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, while striking out 13 batters. His performance paved the way for the offense as it exploded 11 runs, 7 of which came in the 6th and 7th inings. Rick Gozur went 3-4 with his 4th home run of the year, while driving in 3. Andy Capraruolo, Frank Santore, Adam Cox, and Josh Page each collected 2 hits a piece. Santore had 3 RBI's. With the win, Bud's has drawn Buffalo West Herr for the third straight meeting at noon tomorrow. The winner will take on the CLeveland Mosquitoes at 3pm at Pemberton Park.

Bud's/DiCioccio Fall 7-3 Versus Buffalo

  In the winners bracket championship, Buffalo put a hurting on Bud's as they pounded out 12 hits on route to a 7-3 victory. Buffalo is now the only team out of 4 remaining that have 0 losses. With the final 4 teams left, Bud's drew Buffalo, and the Cleveland Mosquitoes will play Pittsburgh St. John's. On a brighter note, George Rohan and Dave Yost did a great job in relif of Tim Gray to hold the Buffalo attack to a minimum. Offensively, Bud's stranded 12 runners on base, while only piling up 5 hits. Bud's will need to win tonight in order to stay alive in the tournament. Gametime 8pm.

Revenge is Sweet as Bud's Knocks Out O'Donald's

    Bud's scored 3 of their 4 runs in the 4th inning to defeat O'Donald's 4-1. With the win Bud's is now 1 step closer to a NABF World Series berth. John Hay threw a complete game for his 10th victory of the season, while scattering 6 hits. Shane Davis had 2 hits for Bud's, while Josh Page drove in 2. The top of the lineup provided the punch yesterday, while the bottom won the game today. Bud's has drawn a bye for the third round. They will play the winner of Pittsburgh/Buffalo Saturday at noon at Pemberton Park.

Cooksey Fires Shutout as Bud's Moves on to Face O'Donald's

    New Bud's acquisition Bo Cooksey fired a 4 hit shutout to aid Bud's in their 4-0 defeat of the Garfield Blue Streaks. Cooksey struck out 12 batters in his 7 innings of work. Offensively, Adam Cox was 3-4, while Andy Capraruolo and Frank Santore eash had 2 hits. Santore had 2 RBI's, while Rick Gozur added a double. With the win, Bud's will face O'Donald's Friday at 12:30pm at Pemberton Park. A win would secure a third round bye for Bud's.

   The 2006 NABF Regional is set to begin Thursday at Pemberton Park. The tournament consists of 10 of the best teams trying to reach the NABF World Series in Kentucky. Bud's/DiCioccio will open up Thursday night at 8pm. The tournament draw is Wednesday night at the Youngstown Sports Grille. At that time the bracket will be set. Other teams include: Youngstown O'Donald's, Canton Pizza Oven, Cleveland Mosquitos, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Washington,Pa, Maryland, Cleveland Steve's Sports, and Toledo.

Bud's/DiCioccio Construction Get Ready for NABF Regional

    After a tough 4-2 defeat in the "AA" Championship series versus O'Donald's, Bud's is looking foward to some new additions and the NABF Regional which is set for August 10-13 at Pemberton Park. Bud's goes in as the number 6th ranked team in the state with a 28-5 record. Other teams to watch out for are Canton Pizza Oven, Cleveland Mosquitoes, and any Maryland team that makes the trip. Pickups for the tournament will be announced soon. All practices will be announced soon as well.

   The voting for the 2006 Bud's MVP is now closed. Bud's/DiCioccio Construction's MVP for the 2006 season is Johnny Hay. John has pitched 64. 67 innings, compiling a 9-0 record, with a dismal 1.52 ERA. He has 55 strikeouts to only 14 walks.

Bud's Eric Shaffer to Continue Career in Frontier League

Eric Shaffer
Youngstown -- Former Bud's and Youngstown State pitcher Eric Shaffer signed a contract to play for the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League on last Wednesday.
    Shaffer was 2-0 with 1 save in 16 innings of work with Bud's. He posted a 0.00 ERA, only allowing 3 hits, while striking out 25 batters. He threw Bud's 2nd no hitter of the season in June versus O'Donald's. He is Bud's 1st player to sign a professional contract.      
    Shaffer finished his YSU career as one of the most veteran pitchers in YSU history, ranking second in school history in career innings pitched and third in starts. He compiled a career mark of 13-21 and was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team in 2004.
    He had his best statistical year as a senior, going 4-5 with an ERA of 3.36 in 80 1/3 innings. He set career-best numbers in ERA, innings pitched and total appearances, and he matched his career-best marks in starts and issued walks. He was one of the top pitchers in the Horizon League over the past two months of the season, going 2-2 with an ERA of 2.17 in 54 innings after April 1.
       Since 1996, 39 Evansville players have signed with Major League Baseball clubs.
    In Shaffer's first apperance with the Otters, he threw 5.1 innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits while striking out 3. He did not get a decision.
