Bob Krupp - Field Maintenance
Buchholz Family & Coaches: I want to thank everyone who participated in the field clean up on Saturday. It was a great success. I knew there would be a good turn out but I did not expect the numbers that showed up, on a hot muggy day, especially the players. Thanks again, we accomplished a lot. I know coach Banes was happy to begin preparing the field for fall play. The players were responsible for this and spread countless loads of sand in the outfield. Weeds were pulled from the infield by hand, a difficult and tedious job. None-the-less, the field is beginning to look like something we can be proud of. The efforts did not stop with the playing field. The dugouts and surrounding areas were power washed, seemingly endless areas were trimmed and cut, debris was removed and gallons of Roundup were sprayed in hopes of managing trimming chores in the future. My main goal for the fall was to clear the fence lines and create a buffer zone around them, particularly the bullpen. For those of you that visited the field recently, it was obvious that all the rain this summer has caused the fence lines to all but disappear under a heavy growth of vines, brush and trees. We started clearing the bullpen area and some were amazed to discover that the rear of the bullpen actually had a secondary section fence. I never knew it was there. However, the area looks great and demonstrates a need to continue what we have started.I would like to schedule 2 more field prep days before the start of the fall season which is tentatively planned for October 5th.The main goal of these days would be to continue clearing the fence lines, trim the hedges and complete any field prep tasks coach Banes feels is necessary, Also we all know the Gators start play next week and it is Labor Day weekend. So, I propose the following schedule to accomplish our goal. Sunday September 20th and 27th from 10:00 until noon. Please check your schedules. I have picked these dates because they work for me and others I have talked to. Another schedule we could consider is weekday evenings and/or combination weekends. There is enough daylight left at this time of the year that we could be effective if planned and coordinated properly. I am open to ideas but would like to finish by the start of the season. Once this is complete there would minimal efforts needed to keep the field and surrounding area conditioned. So, respond to me your availability and ideas. Thanks.Bob Krupp![]() |
