A group of our Scouts participated in the 2009 National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association's National Youth Shoot in Friendship Indiana in July. All had a great time shooting blackpowder muzzle loading rifles, shotguns, .22's, pistols, archery, throwing tomahawks, and other activities. We finished off a great day of adventure by eating at a pig roast. Many awards were presented at the closing ceremony. Our Evan Cooper was the recipient of the grand prize: a custom built muzzle loading flintlock rifle donated to the NMLRA's Youth Shoot Program. This is a beautiful hand crafted rifle with engraving that makes it the only one of its kind in the world! We'll all be able to see this rifle at a future meeting. Congratulations, Evan. The NMLRA's Boy Scout Camporee is scheduled for October 2-4, 2009. John Harper is Top Scout
John Harper was selected as the top Scout last week at National Youth Leadership Training in Camp Michaels. He was awarded the Baden Powell Scout Certificate which recognizes outstanding leadership and scout spirit, plus he earned the title and rank of "staff member", which allows him to be a trainer next year at NYLT. This was a high honor for John and Troop 940. There were approximately 50 boys at his session. Way to go, John! New Medical Forms The BSA has released a new Annual Health and Medical Record which will replace the old Class 1, 2, 3 forms. The changeover is mandated by January 1, 2010. Please start using the new forms immediately. As always, all medical forms should be turned in to Dr. Tim Boyer. Everybody must now have an annual physical to participate in a high adventure trek, a strenuous activity, or any event lasting over 72 hours. There are also height/weight ratios for some activities. All age groups will use the same form. The new computer-friendly form, with instructions, is available for download here under "Important Documents".
