Frequently Ask Questions

 MOUNTAIN VALLEY JOINS DISTRICT 2

A new league has chartered with Little League International in Maryland District 2. Mountain Valley Little League will begin play in 2015. They are based in the Middletown, Myersville and Wolfsville area of Frederick County. The Middletown area returns to Little League having been involved before in the late 70’s.

Maryland District 2 is made up of 9 leagues in FREDERICK, CARROLL, MONTGOMERY, HOWARD and BALTIMORE Counties along with the Challenger League offering Baseball and Softball for 4 to 18 year olds.

District 2 leagues are Brunswick, East Frederick, Four County, Frederick American, Frederick National, Montgomery County, Mountain Valley, Thurmont & Challenger.

ROLE OF A PARENT

Parents play an integral part of the success BRLL has each season. BRLL is not a club in which membership implies baby-sitting benefits and entertainment privileges. As stated in the Little League Official Playing Rulebook, "Little League is an adult, volunteer work project constructed, supervised and assisted by parents who want to extend this benefit to their children. The parent who shirks this responsibility cannot, in turn, expect others to assume the burden."

Our league survives on countless hours of volunteer work. As indicated in each level of play, a successful season takes MANY VOLUNTEERS. Please take the time to invest in our league as we take the time to invest in the development of your son/daughter as a baseball/softball player.

NEW LEAGUE AGE REQUIREMENTS

NEW FOR 2015 ... Beginning with the 2015 season, your player's "League Age" may be altered based on a new rule in place by Little League. The League's division will be based on the current 2015 age chart, listed below. When choosing a division, keep in mind, your child may possibly be "older" with regards to their "league age". For players registering for Minors their age may be different, but we will continue to divide the players based on various factors including age and ability. For Majors your league age most likely will not change.

NEW LEAGUE AGE CHART

see below...

BRLL RESIDENCY

Before you can enroll your player in Brunswick Railroaders Little League, you need to check the most current boundary map to see if you live within our league boundaries. Contact our player agent Amy Dinges at dingesfamily5@comcast.net with with any questions.

 MORE RESIDENCY, IMPORTANT PLEASE READ...

In an effort to accomodate for Little Leaguers to play with their classmates, and ease the burden on parents and guardians,  Little League has amended its residency requirements to allow children to play in the local league whose boundaries where they attend school is located. To verify enrollment, parents will need to provide an official school document, such as a report card or school enrollment form, confirming enrollment in the school for the current academic year, dated before October 1, 2014.

Players must be rostered with their local little league (Minor and/or Major) during the regular season and must play on their regular season teams. Games will be held on Sundays for approximately 8-10 weeks starting on or about April 6th. Special games and tournaments may also occur and may require additional player fees.

RAILROADER LITTLE LEAGUE 50'/70'

INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM

The 50'/70' division is a supplemental program that is played in addition to BRLL's Majors divisional play. Intended to facilitate the transition from 60 foot bases to 90 foot bases, the concept is simple – play more ball, prep for Little League "graduation" and have fun. The goal is to put together a few inter-League teams for players and parents who are interested in playing at a higher level once a week. The games will be more competitive, but there is no "title" to win. Teams will play 8-10 games. Tryouts for BRLL’s teams will be held on Sunday, March 16th and times will be determined at a later date depending on player interest.

The Basics

Who – District 2 Little Leagues only. Eligibility: League Age 11 and 12 players who currently play on a BRLL Major division team.  All potential players must participate in pre-draft Skill Evaluation.

What - “50'/70' ” represents 2 distances, namely, 50 feet between pitcher’s plate and home plate, and 70 feet between bases. (Little League fields are 46 feet and 60 feet, respectively.) 50'/70' players will play on a 70' diamond utilizing Junior League rules.

Where – Other appropriate-sized District 2 League fields. Indoor facilities are possible. There will be some travel across the Maryland area.

When – Games will be on Sundays only. Practices will be limited. All games and practices will be secondary to the player’s BRLL team schedules.

How – An additional registration fee of $60 to cover separate jersey and hat, as well as possible field and umpire fees.

RAFFLE TICKET DRIVE FOR 2015

We will continue our tradional fundraiser of the $1.00 Raffle Ticket Drive with the winning tickets to be drawn during Opening Ceremonies. We are asking each child to sell 20 tickets or each family to sell 40 tickets. The income from the sale of these tickets helps are league to offset maintenance costs to keep all of our fields  in excellent playing condition.

  LEAGUE AGE REQUIREMENTS

NEW FOR 2015 ...  Beginning with the 2015 season, your player's "League Age" may be altered based on a new rule in place by Little League. The League's division will be based on the current 2015 age chart, listed below. When choosing a division, keep in mind, your child may possibly be "older" with regards to their "league age". For players registering for Minors their age may be different, but we will continue to divide the players based on various factors including age and ability. For Majors your league age most likely will not change.

FOR BASEBALL DIVISIONS ONLY

In April, 2014 the International Congress approved the new league age determination amendment for Little League Baseball®. To implement the new amendment, it was decided to include a three-year waiting period to execute the change, starting in 2018. Questions from the field were raised about the impact the change would have on players that were currently league age 8 under the traditional system. Using feedback from Little League® parents through our District Administrators, the Little League International Board of Directors adjusted the April-approved implementation strategy in order to modify the impact on all of our minor and major division players. The adjustment also allows for an easier transition for players in the early years of Little League participation.

As a result of this recent adjustment to the implementation strategy, effective immediately, any player born on or after January 1, 2006 who will turn the ages of 4-9 during the 2015 calendar year will be eligible to participate in a local Little League program and will use the new age determination date of December 31 for the reminder of their Little League Baseball career. Players will still be assigned to a division based on local league divisional structure.

As stated, with this implementation strategy adjustment the impact on our players will be reduced, with the exception of a marginal impact on players currently participating in the very early stages of their Little League career. Furthermore, our continued focus on fun, fitness and fundamentals at the Tee Ball Division will assist local leagues as they look to provide a smooth transition to the Coach/Machine Pitch divisions of play while still developing a passion for the game as well as focusing on skill development.

This change ensures that no player will lose a year of participation in the Little League Majors Division that culminates with the annual Little League Baseball World Series in South Williamsport, Pa.
