All-Stars and Tournament Update –  Friday July 10

**BRSLL 9/10s Great Run Ends - D52 12s Championship Game tonight at Marina**

BRSLL 9/10s Spectacular Run Ends

Our BRSLL 9/10s lost a tough one to Foster City Wednesday evening in Palo Alto.  After falling behind by scores of 5-0 and 7-1, our team rallied to close the gap to 7-5 but unfortunately could not get any closer.  The loss gave our boys a matchup with Hillsborough for the right to meet Foster City for the District championship.  Matthew Carroll started for Belmont on Thursday against Hillsborough and threw five shutout innings.  He was also clocked on the radar gun as the hardest throwing pitcher in the tournament.  Unfortunately, Hillsborough's pitching kept Belmont off the board, despite several scoring opportunities.   Blake Collins had a great day in the outfield helping keep the game scoreless through five.  Hillsborough pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the sixth for a final score of 1-0.  The team battled hard for two weeks and was one of three teams remaining of the original sixteen.  Zane VanArsdel, Drew Wyman, and Matthew Carroll were the top hitters for the squad during the tournament.  Foster City now plays Hillsborough for the championship, but the hometown lads showed they can compete with the top teams and are looking forward to next year. Our players and the coaching staff, manager John VanArsdel and coaches Rod Wyman and Joe Garcia, are to be congratulated for their great performance.

D52 Play Continues - Hillsborough and Half Moon Bay Meet in Championship Game tonight

Hillsborough and Half Moon Bay will meet for the District 52 11/12 year old championship tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Marina.  Half Moon Bay enters with one loss and will need to beat Hillsboroough twice to capture the championship.  This should be a great game against two strong teams, so why not come down to Marina and enjoy the end of Little League baseball for the season!    We'll have specials on tournament T-shirts and the usual great food at the snack shack.

**BRSLL 12s Tournament Run Ends - D52 12 Play Continues at Marina**

BRSLL 12s Tournament Run Ends

Our BRSLL 12s faced a tough San Carlos team Monday night at Marina. Belmont scored first on an rbi single by Bobby Chu that drove in Franklin Rice in the bottom of the second. Evan McClain started for Belmont and, backed by some strong defense, worked out of jams in both the first and second innings, giving Belmont a 1-0 lead after two. San Carlos responded in the top of the third inning with a grand slam homerun by Zac Miller, making the score 4-1 in favor of San Carlos. It was all San Carlos thereafter as San Carlos went on to defeat Belmont by a final score of 11-1. Conor Thane pitched a complete game and also homered for San Carlos.  In addition to his grand slam, Zac Miler also hit a solo homerun for San Carlos.  Our Belmont team had a nice run in the tournament, winning two games including one over perennially tough Alpine West Menlo and our players and coaches are to be congratulated for their efforts.

D52 Play Continues - RC National Rallies for Victory

In Monday night's first game, Redwood City National entered the sixth inning trailing 9-5 against Palo Alto National. A 3-run homer by Kenny Belanger cut the deficit to 9-8, and Daniel Molinari's two-rbi single gave Redwood City a 10-9 lead in the middle of the sixth. With the tying run on second and two out in the bottom of the sixth, Palo Alto's Philip Lewis singled to left, but a great throw from left field cut down the would-be tying run at the plate to preserve the 10-9 win for Redwood City. Ben Sehl, Chris Ortiz and Liam Clifford also homered for Redwood City, and Kenta Yanagisawa hit two long balls for Palo Alto.

In tonight's games, Redwood City National will face Half Moon Bay at 5 pm with San Mateo National taking on San Carlos in the night game at 7:30. Wednesday's action will feature the two remaining unbeaten teams, Pacifica American and Hillsborough, squaring off at 5 pm.

**BRSLL Teams Victorious - 12s Play at Marina tonight -9/10s One Step from Championship Game**

BRSLL 12s and 9/10s Win Sunday Games - 12s play tonight at 7:30 vs San Carlos--9/10s on Wednesday

Our BRSLL 12s defeated Alpine West Menlo, 5-4, in a thrilling well played game at Marina Sunday afternoon. Belmont scored four times in the bottom of the first to take a 4-2 lead. After the rally, Alpine countered by bringing their top pitcher, Brad Degnan, into the game and he held Belmont scoreless through the middle innings. Belmont benefitted from strong pitching by Conrad May, David Dependahl and Evan McClain and outstanding defense all around, with centerfielder Nicky Thompson and catcher Bobby Chu contributing outstanding plays. With two on and one out in the bottom of the sixth, Nicky Thompson drove a ball into the gap in right center to score the winning run for Belmont. Belmont will be right back at it tonight with a 7:30 p.m. game vs. San Carlos at Marina. Let's have a big turnout of fans to support our team!

Our 9/10 team continued their winning ways on Sunday with a nail-biting 6-4 victory over San Carlos. Matthew Carroll pitched nearly the full game without issuing a walk in the low scoring affair. Vinny Bologna came in during the sixth to record two final outs and secure the win. Our Belmont team played a sound fundamental game with Chase DelRosso, Sheal Awsare, and Blake Collins all perfectly executing sacrifice bunts to move runners into scoring position for what turned out to be the difference in the game. Drew Wyman and Zane VanArsdel each collected multiple hits on the day. Belmont is now one of only two undefeated teams in the field of sixteen, and plays Foster City on Wednesday Night in Palo Alto. The winner will reach Friday's championship game needing only one win to secure the District championship. The loser will still be alive, but will have to win Thursday to reach the championship game, and will then need two victories for the championship. Wednesday's game will be at 5 p.m. at the Palo Alto Little League Park, located at 3672 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. Our players and coaches would greatly appreciate as much fan suport as we can generate!

D52 12s Action Continues at Marina

In Sunday's other D52 games, the four unbeaten teams were in action. Hillsborough defeated Half Moon Bay 8-7 and Pacifica American continued their strong run with a win over San Mateo National. Hillsborough will meet Pacifica American on Wednesday.

Tonight, in additon to the Belmont game, Redwood City National will take on Palo Alto National at 5 p.m. We are reaching the final stages of the tournament as only 6 of the original 16 teams will remain alive after tonight's games.

All-Stars and Tournament Update –Monday June 29

**BRSLL District and SuperbowlAll-Star teams begin play – BRSLL hosting District 52 11/12 All-Star Tournament**

BRSLL Hosting D52 12 Year Old All-Star Tournament – Volunteers Needed and Fans Welcome!

BRSLL is hosting the California District 52 12 year-old All-Star tournament at Marina Field. This is the premier local event for Little League All-Stars, and the first level at which competition to reach the Little League World Series begins. This tournament is also a big fundraiser for our league, and we need volunteers over the next two weeks to help us run a successful tournament. Volunteers are needed to help with field prep and t-shirt sales. Field prep is especially critical as we need to set up the field beforethe first game each day and then again between each game. Beginning today (Monday June 29), we will have two weeknight games for the next two weeks with 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. starting times as well as four games on Sunday July 5 (no games on the 4th). If you have limited experience with field prep, don’t worry as we will have an experienced field prep leader on hand to direct the work effort. We also need help with t-shirt sales, particularly as teams begin playing elimination games tonight. To volunteer, please contact our tournament directors, Chris Mitchell (christopher.m@comcast.net or (650) 703-7549) or Steve Gross (sjgross2000@yahoo.com or (650) 814-6391).

The All-Star tournament games are also a great reason to come out to Marina Field and watch some baseball. Also, our concession stand led by Tim Sandborn’s All Sports Catering has lots of great food including traditional ballpark favorites (burgers, hot dogs, Polish sausages) as well as specialty items including Caesar salads, grilled marinated tri tip and daily specialties. So if you’re looking for something to do one evening this week, why not come out to Marina Field, enjoy some great food and have fun watching baseball! Remember, a portion of all your concession stand purchases during the tournament is returned to our league!

Eight games were played this weekend with all 16 teams playing their first round games. First round winners were Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Hillsborough, Redwood City National, San Mateo National, San Carlos, Alpine West Menlo and Pacifica American. The most exciting contest of the weekend was Redwood City National’s 7-6 over Menlo Atherton, in which the final out was recorded on a would-be game winning shot that was caught on the warning track just in front of the right field fence.

We would also like to acknowledge the great volunteer support we have received to date – Randy McClain for doing a great job of getting the field into superior playing condition; Al Sikl, Walter Smith, Brian Fong, Mike Fowler, Mark Thompson, Chuck Dependahl, Andy Gross, Alex Smith and Justin Fong on field prep; our scorekeeper Jill Rodriguez; our District 52 umpiring crews and Bob Lotti who stepped in to umpire a game when we needed the help.

BRSLL Majors and MinorsSuperbowl Teams Lose Hard Fought Opening Games to San Carlos

Our Majors and Minors Division Superbowl teams competed in the District 52 Majors and Minors Superbowl tournaments, which are single elimination tournaments organized by District 52 to give more players an opportunity to participate in post-season play. The tournaments were held the weekend of June 18-22 in Foster City. Both our teams faced San Carlos in the opening round.

Aaron Wolfgang led the way for our Majors Superbowl team, starting the game and pitching 4 strong innings. Unfortunately, we could not get much going offensively in the first five innings and entered the sixth trailing 3-0. A leadoff home run byAaron Wolfgang, his Majors division-leading ninth of the season, cut the deficit to 3-1, and a clutch two-out rbi double by Brian Gordon tied the game at 3-3. Alex Dolan delivered one of his three hits on the day in the game-tying rally and also made a spectacular diving catch of shallow fly ball in left field earlier in the game. After our boys tied the game, San Carlos pushed the winning run across on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to gain a 4-3 win.

The Minors Superbowl team’s matchup with San Carlos followed a similar script, with BRSLL falling behind 5-0 before mounting a late rally. Chad Davies launched a three-run homerun to cut the deficit to 5-3 in the sixth. The rally continued, and the final out was recorded with the game-tying run on base.
