Greater Newark Baseball League: Tips From the Coach
Tuesday, March 31Why we do it!
We always want the best from the kids we mentor in this the great game of baseball, but let’s not forget the really important things we are striving for:
1. Keep it simple- we aren’t here to teach kids how to hit homeruns or make a "web gem" play every time they are around the ball but instead just do the routine things, pick a good pitch and put the ball in play and get in front of the ball and field it right up the middle, these are the things that will take any good player and make him great.
2. it’s for the kids- If we are out for some lost glory, were in the wrong line of work. We all need to understand that we will have players that will need extra guidance to reach their potential and we must give it to them.
3. Expect the best from all our players- Coaches that have touched may of our lives were willing to brush off kids they thought would never be big enough or fast enough or strong enough but if a 5ft 9in kid from Woodland, Ca. the AL Rookie of The Year and the AL MVP in back to back seasons I think we all have a chance. Go Dustin Pedroia you are a role model for all the kids in this sport.
