Brookhaven Town Soccer Programs...

That Completes our 29th summer soccer season !
We look forward to 2010 when we will celebrate our 30th season.

2009 Summer Re-Cap...

BROOKHAVEN TOWN SUMMER SOCCER PROGRAM

As Soccer Supervisor for the past twenty nine summers, I would like to thank a number of people for making this summer's program a complete success. ROB ROVEGNA our Girls' Soccer Supervisor has been involved with this program for the past 23 years. The soccer program also thanks LOU HANNER who joined our staff eight years ago as the Men's U-23 College Soccer Supervisor. Lou took over for my son, Jeff, who left soccer after 11 years to take over the Town of Brookhaven's Basketball Program. A very special thank you to JASON ESPOSITO, JACK MURPHY and BEN PAQUETTE who lined our fields this season. They replaced RAY BARTH who had been spraying white lines for our soccer program for 22 years. The three Soccer Supervisors were responsible for updating this web site... www.eteamz.com/BrookhavenSoccer
We thank our 2009 Field Supervisors with (#) years of service: KRISTEN MULLANE (7), KATE ROMANO (6), MEGAN WILLIAMSON (6), AMY VENTIMIGLIA (5), MALLORY DATZ (4), MICHAEL LEMBO (4), KEITH AUGERI (3), REBECCA KUEMMEL (3), KAITLIN MESZAROS (3), JACQUELINE MEROLA (3), JACK MURPHY (3), KELLY NOONAN (3), BEN PAQUETTE (3), ANDREW FARRELL (2), ARIANNA FOUNTIS (2) and ALICIA GIBBONS (2).
Our first year Field Supervisors included: KAITLIN ARNOLD, CHELSEA BRUNO, KRISTIN EPSKY, BREANNE INGARGIOLA, LAUREN MARTEL, KEVIN NOONAN, and JESSIKA O'BRIEN.
We would also like to thank the Boys' and Girls' Suffolk County Soccer Officials Associations for officiating all our games. They are the main reason why our program runs smoothly and has been able to grow from 8 teams in 1981 to the 89 teams we had this summer.
Many thanks go out to all the people involved in making their fields available to us: the Center Moriches School District, Middle County Schools and the Shoreham/Wading River School District. We also thank the Sachem Youth Soccer League, the Three Village Youth Soccer League on the campus of Stony Brook University and the Patchogue/Medford Youth Soccer League for allowing us to use their soccer fields.
A special thank you to Commissioner ED MORRIS and Deputy Commissioner TOM OWENS and the Town of Brookhaven Parks & Recreation Department who have built "Diamond in the Pines" in Coram and the "Wedge" in Mt. Sinai. These "turf" facilities have allowed our soccer players to play on "state of the art" synthetic fields. "Diamond in the Pines" will be the site of all our summer Championships. The facility features "high tech" lighting and a "state of the art" digital scoreboard. The Parks Department will be adding two additional "turf" fields that will be on-line by next summer. They are located in Centereach and Medford.
A very special thank you to the Superintendent of Recreation KURT LEUFFEN, PATRICK DANIELS and the entire staff at the Town of Brookhaven's Recreation Division for making this soccer program a reality.
GOOD LUCK this fall to all our High School players. GOOD LUCK to those players who will now move on to play college soccer . We hope to see the underclassmen in our High School leagues again next summer and the 2010 seniors playing in our U-23 Men's college division. We are always looking for a committment from four teams so we can begin a college level soccer program for young women.
I am looking forward to our 2010 summer season when the Brookhaven Town Soccer Program will begin it's 30th year of providing summer soccer fun to over 2300 youth and young adult soccer players !
Al Ellis, Brookhaven Town Soccer Supervisor

Weather Related Decisions & Possible Cancellations...

*******************************************************************************************
WEATHER RELATED CANCELLATIONS
*******************************************************************************************
* A decision to cancel games due to bad weather is usually made around 3pm
* Check right here or call the rain phone after 3pm
* Brookhaven Soccer offers a RAIN PHONE to provide cancellation information.

RAIN PHONE = 451-6972
If there is no weather related information you MUST go to the field.
* Due to the fact that we have games spread over an area from Stony Brook
University on the north to Center Moriches on the south a decision to cancel is
usually made at the fields by the soccer Field Supervisors and soccer referees.
* We do play games in light rain but when lightning is sighted the games are
stopped, everyone will be asked to find shelter, and a decision to continue will
be made after a 30 minute wait period if the game is "un-official" and a 10 minute
wait period if the game is "official." An "official" game is a game that has been
played for 30 minutes of more.
* You can check right here for DAY-BY-DAY cancellation information.

Rain Phone... 451-6972

Srules
Brookhaven Town Recreation "Lightning Rule" which was adopted in 2004
We do NOT play soccer when Lightning is sighted !

If lightning is sighted the game is stopped and everyone finds shelter.
An "official" game... is when at least 1 half of play is completed
If the game is "official", at least one half of the game has been completed, the soccer
referees and Field Supervisors must wait 10 minutes before deciding to continue play
or cancelling the match. If the game is canceled, the score remains and the game is
counted in the standings.
An "un-official" game... is when a half of play is not completed
If the game is "un-official", a half of the game has not been completed, the referees
and Field Supervisors must wait for 30 minutes before deciding to play or cancel the
game. If the game is resumed, at least 30 minutes of soccer must be played before the
game can become an "official" game and count in the standings. If the game is not resumed,
the League Supervisor will decide if the game is re-scheduled.
In the event that the referees and or Field Supervisors leave the field before these
time mandates, they will not be paid for that game.
This rule applies to both games of a double header.

***********************************************************************************

Heat & Humidity Issues...

Any night the Soccer Supervisors, Referees, Field Supervisors
or Summer Soccer Coaches feel that the temperture and humidity
levels are high the games will have MANDITORY water breaks.
The water breaks can be between halfs (every 15 minutes) or the
games can even be broken into 10 minute periods with 5 water
breaks within the 60 minute game. It is the position of the
Brookhaven Town Soccer Program that this policy is safe.
If parents feel that their son or daughter is not safe then they
certainly have the right to have their child sit out that evening.

CUMULATIVE YELLOW CARD POLICY
If a Men's U-23 player receives a YELLOW card in the first half of a game,
he may NOT re-enter the game until the second half.
For every 3 YELLOW cards a U-23 player or Coach accumulates, he must serve a 1 game suspension.
FOR EACH ADDITIONAL YELLOW CARD, THE PLAYER or Coach WILL SERVE A 1 GAME SUSPENSION.
THIS POLICY WILL CARRY OVER INTO THE PLAYOFFS.
If a U-23 player or coach receives a RED card for two YELLOW cards in the same game,
one of those YELLOW cards will be assessed to the cumulative YELLOW card policy.
He must still sit-out the next two games for receiving the RED card.
