WARRIORS OPEN its 58th SEASON
Hello everyone! Welcome back to another season of Warriors Football. This is the Warriors 58th season of football dedicated to the youth of the community. The Chief, Jay Demers, welcomes back all previous players and coaches and would like to welcome all new players and coaches to the Warriors program. The start of the 2009 season was very successful. Our registration for this year was bigger than last year, which enabled us to add teams to our in-house program, plus we will have one team playing in the Big Apple Football League.

In a defensive battle the Legends Sports Photography Giants defeated the O’Connor Carpet Bears 7 to 6. They finally scored in the last minutes of the second half on a 40-yard handoff up the right sideline. On defense, the Giants had stellar line play from the following players Severino Avellino, Russell Randall and at linebacker Matthew Carrera, Julian Cardona, and Kevin Manning. The Bears lost by a slim margin this past Sunday, despite Linebacker Jason Rivera’s fumble recovery with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Damian Garcia showed tremendous athleticism and speed, as he scored on a 47-yard bootleg run for a touchdown, putting the Bears on the scoreboard first. The Bears defense was solid through three quarters, allowing no points and collecting key tackles during the Eagles red zone possessions. Having a monster day was Cornerback, Connor Hanley-Piri who collected 8 tackles and frustrated the Eagles offense. The Bears are confident that their offense and defense will continue to improve throughout the season.
Pee Wee Division
In the first game of the 2009 season the Silvestri Carpet Spartans played with a vengeance trying to make up for the last minute loss to the Ramblers last season that cost them the championship, defeated the Anthony’s Collision Redskins 32 to 19. Behind the solid blocking of Nicholas Flores and Anthony Russo Jordan Dabkowski ran for two touchdowns 55 & 50 yards. The other running back Sean Vanegas made his presence know by scoring on a 50-yard run also. Playing quarterback for the first time Christopher Campuzano did and excellent job. The solid tackling by Joseph Silvestri and the quarterback sacks from Nicholas Gennarelli, Kamhan McLeod and Joseph Aparicio kept the Redskins in check. For the Redskins, John Castillo ran a 30-yard quarterback bootleg for the first touchdown behind the great blocking of Michael Booth. Tariq “TD” Davis ran 60 yards for the Redskins second score. Angel Nevarez ran back a kickoff in the second quarter to cap off the Redskins scoring.
The Kleen-Awn Blue Devils came out strong for their first game of the season beating The Food Factory Ramblers 20 to 13. The Blue Devils charge was led by quarterback Eric Berrios, who scored a touchdown and two extra points. Izayah Powell scored the Devils second touchdown of the game showing off some nice moves and very good speed. Richie Mameli also showed an impressive amount of speed by running for a 70-yard touchdown. The Devils defense played a good game holding the Ramblers to a scoreless fourth quarter. Leading the defensive stand was Alexander Nunez, Joshua Marrero and Andy Pena.
The Jimmy Ryan’s Crusaders open the 2009 season with a win over the Dr. David Steelers by a score of 12 to 6. Both Crusaders touchdowns were scored by Billy Fleurima behind the solid offensive blocking of Fabian Bonilla, Jesus Morales and Geffrey Ogando. On defense, Avery Perez, Charles Harvin and Jeremy Lopez pumped up the team by collecting a quarterback sack each. The Steelers only score came on a great 50-yard pass from Aubrey Abrams to Stephen Diaz. Credit center Amani Barnes, who anchored to offensive line with giving Abrams time to complete the pass. The Steelers defense was led by Abrams with 4 tackles and a battered down possible touchdown pass, Sudiata Powell with 4 tackles, 2 for losses, Diaz with 4 tackles and Joseph Santos with 3 tackles.
Junior Division
The Paddy Doherty’s Black Knights and the Balsamo F. H. played to a 7 to 7 tie. The Javelins only score came on a 70-yard kick-off return by Eric Bachelder on the first play of the game behind the blocking of Melvin Harrell and Trenaine Whitaker. The Javelins defense led by Joseph Perez and Joshua Plaza held the Knights to only one score for the game. After giving up the opening play touchdown the Knights held on to keep the Javelins scoreless for the rest of the game. The Javelins only touchdown came from the smart running on Tony Monserrate behind the solid blocking of Justin Melendez and Angel Torres. The Knights defense led by Richard Guzman, Malachi Lozada and Richard Johnson made the plays to keep the Javelins to only one score.
The Junior game played on Sunday saw the Giordano F. H. Saints defeat the McNulty F. H. Rams 13 to 6. In the first drive of game for the Saints, Nikolas Garcia completed two passes to David Rivas-Torres; Jeremy Vega had three carries for 30 yards Rivas-Torres scored the touchdown on 8-yard run. In the fourth quarter, the Saints drove 50 yards to score their second and winning touchdown of the game, Tyron Ingram ran for 20 yards, Justin Hernandez ran for a 7 yard run and Vega capped off the drive with a 12-yard TD run. Strong defense from Osiris Rolling, Tyron Ingram, and Jose Detres kept the Saints ahead. Rolling and Ingram both recorded sacks. For the Green Machine Rams Jovan Rivera ran, passed and had an overall excellent game. Filling in for the two injured starting quarterbacks, Christian Santos played extremely well. On defense for the Rams Rivera and Vincent Gonzales were outstanding, while Andre Brown and Robert Regalado made some big hits. The Rams only score came when Christian Monteavaro “stole” the ball from the Saints quarterback and ran 70 yards for the touchdown.
Big Apple Team
Saturday, 9/19 provided the Warrior travel team an opportunity to see how well they stack up against the best New York City youth football has to offer. Their opponent, the Springfield Rifles from Queens were the leagues runner up last season, losing a heartbreaker 7-6 in the championship game. Both teams came into the contest with 2-0 records and both left the game with 2-0-1 records as they fought to a 6-6 tie. The Rifles had their way early as they moved down the field and ate up yardage in the first quarter. But the Warrior defense stiffened and gave up only 2 first downs the remaining three quarters of the game. Leading the way on defense were ILB’s CJ Holcomb and Edwin Webber. They were supported by the great play of defensive linemen Donvito Kuinlan, Justin Acosta, Jayson Gonzalez, and Aaron Cruz. Offensively the Warriors were sluggish for most of the game but took full advantage of the two turnovers generated by the defense. QB James Werner found Tyrell Halliman for an 8-yard TD strike late in the third quarter and drove the team to the Rifle 12-yard line as time expired. Halliman ended the day with 4 catches for 37 yards and Werner also completed passes to Dylan Monserrate and Joey Alba in finishing his day 7 for 11 through the air. The Warriors will face off next against the Yonkers Gladiators on 9/27.

The Silvestri Carpet Spartans turned in a great game against The Food Factory Ramblers, defeating them 19 to 6. Three different players scored the Spartans touchdowns. Jordan Dabkowski started things off by scoring on a 60-yard run. Quarterback Christopher Campuzano threw for two scores, one a 25-yard strike to Joseph Silvestri and the other one a 15-yard bullet to William Espinal. Campuzano, caught the eye of “The Chief”, who remarked this kid has a great arm. All of this scoring would not be possible is it wasn’t for the great blocking of the Spartans offensive line led by Victor Falu, Anthony Russo, Joseph Aparicio, Nicolas Flores and Nicholas Gennarelli. On defense, Nicholas Zayas had an interception and two quarterback sacks, Sean Vanegas had an interception, and Enrique Santiago made a great open field tackle to stop a Rambler drive. The Spartans defensive line led by Kamhan McLeod, Tank Czerniewski, and Nicholas Gennarelli put pressure on the Rambler offense all game long.
The Anthony‘s Collision Redskins defeated the Dr. David Stevens Steelers 27 to 0. Four different Redskins, Jonathan Castillo, Tariq Davis, Angel Nevarez and Ryan Cox scored touchdowns. On defense, Michael Booth and Davis put pressure on the Steelers quarterback all game long. Zaire Thornhill had a fumble recovery to stop a Steeler drive.
In the first Pee Wee of the day the Kleen-Awn Blue Devils defeated the Jimmy Ryan’s Crusaders 20 to 0.
Junior Division
The Giordano F. H. Saints beat the Paddy Doherty’s Black Knights in a close game 13 to 6. On the Saints first drive of the game Jeremy Vega had a 55-yard run, David Rivas Torres added another 9 yards, Vega finished off the drive with a 40-yard touchdown run. Vega added the winning touchdown on the Saints second possession scoring from the 11. On defense, Steven Ramos had two big tackles in the backfield. Tyron Ingram played great defense all day long. Paget Bramble had a sack. David Rivas Torres had an interception. The Knights offense started slowly in the first half, but in the second half made a great turn around. Their only touchdown came from great blocking by Malachi Lozada, a great pass by Tony Monserrate to Richard Johnson who made a fantastic catch for the touchdown. On defense, like the offense, the Knights started slow, but quickly woke up. After giving up two Saint runs for touchdowns on the outside, the ends spread out to stop the Saints sweep. The Saints defense was led by Richard Guzman, Dionys Deleon, Monserrate and Lozada.

Back in late July, the Warriors traveled to Gorton HS in Yonkers for their first scrimmage of the season. They faced off against the Yonkers Gladiators and were soundly outplayed on offense and defense en route to a very humbling defeat. The loss provided the coaches and players with an opportunity to work on weaknesses that their opponent had exploited. The Warriors got their chance on Sunday 9/27 as they hosted the Gladiators in a week four matchup. The results were vastly different as the Warriors cruised to a 34-6 victory. Leading the way was a dominating defense which held the opposing offense to just 2 first downs. The only Gladiator score was the result of a kickoff return after the Warriors first score of the game. Leading the defensive effort were ILB’s Edwin Webber and CJ Holcomb who were all over the field. The defensive backs also did a great job in locking up the passing game. Joey Alba, Giancarlo Furio, and Angel Aponte were consistently in position giving the defensive line time to harass the QB. The defensive front of Jay Gonzalez, Donvito Kuinlan, Justin Acosta, Niko Bajana, and TJ Bowman not only pressured the QB but stuffed the rushing attack as well. You can’t score 34 points without a good offensive performance by your playmakers and that is exactly what the Warriors received on Sunday. QB James Werner continued his impressive season by throwing for 124 yards and 2 TD’s. Split end Tyrell Halliman hauled in a 26-yard strike for his second score of the season. CJ Holcomb busted a 68 yard TD run and blocked great for his teammates. Fullback Jayson Gonzalez was a truck in gaining 88 hard fought yards and scoring a TD. Tailback Domenic Arena showed his versatility in scoring on a 39-yard TD reception, a weaving 65-yard TD run and throwing an extra point conversion to split end Tyler Zaborski. As the Warriors rolled up over 350 yards of total offense, the offensive line cannot be overlooked. Usually the most overlooked players on the field, this unit forced people to take notice as they opened holes all afternoon. Center Kedar Smith, guards Jonathan Collins and Donvito Kuinlan, and tackles Niko Bajana and DJ Cassidy all deserve credit for a job well done. The 3-0-1 Warriors will next face off against the NY Warriors who finished last season as the 4th ranked team in the country.

On October 3, 2009 a great battle took place at 1:30pm. The undefeated and last year champs the Giordano F. H. Saints faced the 2008 runner-up Balsamo’s F. H. Javelins at Pelham Bay Park. The Javelins started off with a couple of good runs by halfback Jayson Ramos and fullback Antoine Stone. They moved the ball down field with great blocks from offensive linemen James Glenn, Cory Gonzalez, Nelson Rivera and Trenaine Whitaker. The Javelins scored the first of their touchdowns with a strong 10-yard run. The extra point was scored by Aaron Gardner on a reverse. The half ended with the Javelins up 7 - 0. The Saints only scoring drive of the game came in the third quarter as Jeremy Vega ran for over 50 yards on 3 carries and David Rivas-Torres scored on a 4-yard TD run. Quarterback Joshua Nugent completed two short passes and had a fundamentally sound game in his first game at the helm. The Javelins turned this game around in the fourth quarter. Gardner turned it up with two 40-yard runs, and then Eric Bachelder culminated the drive with a 2-yard dive into the end zone to end the game. The Javelins defense led by Anthony Muniz, Melvin Harrell, Antonio Arroyo, Marc Bowens and Mar’kiel Bowens all had a great game in keeping the Saints high power offense to only one score. Final score Javelins 13, Saints 6.
In the last game played on Saturday the McNulty F. H. Rams beat the Paddy Doherty’s Black Knights 7 to 0. The only touchdown of the game was made by Jovan Rivera of the Rams behind the solid run blocking of Vincent Gonzalez, Steven Redrovan and Carlos Burgos. Christian Monteavaro added the extra point. Rivera also contributed on defense along with Sammy Maldonado and Dominick Zarba with multiple tackles to keep the Knights scoreless.
The Knights offensive played a great game, but came up short when it came to putting the ball in the end zone. Malachi Lozada and Tony Monserrate had great runs, but the bulk of the yards came from some great passes by Monserrate and amazing catches by Richard Johnson. The Knights defense played weak the first half giving up the one touchdown to the Rams. Richard Guzman, Dionys Deleon and Lozada tightened up the Knights defense in the second half to keep the Rams scoreless.
Big Apple Team
Sunday 10/4 pitted the Bronx Warriors, who have not lost a game in their two year history of playing travel football, against Brooklyn’s New York Warriors who came into the contest riding a 39 game winning streak and a #4 ranking in the country. In a battle of champions, only one team’s streak could continue. The NY Warriors quickly scored on their first possession and made it look easy as they moved 52 yards in 4 plays to go up 7-0. But their Bronx rivals responded with a time consuming 14 play drive that ate up 61 yards and 8 minutes on the clock. Jayson Gonzalez and Shane Cherry did the damage as the Warriors advanced to the 12-yard line where QB James Werner hit SE Tyrell Halliman with a TD strike. The extra point failed but cut the lead to 7-6. Defensively, things didn’t get any better as the Warriors once again moved 57 yards in 6 plays to take a 13-6 lead into the half. With the NY team getting the ball to start the second half things had to change defensively for the Bronx squad. It did as ILB’s CJ Holcomb and Edwin Webber along with OLB Steven Bradley were everywhere making plays. The NY Warriors would only get one first down in the entire second half. This gave the offense an opportunity to attack and they finally struck with 2:52 left in the game as Werner called a hot route audible to TB Domenic Arena who weaved his way to a 79-yard TD reception off the screen pass. Jayson Gonzalez bulled in for the PAT to tie the game and the defense once again took over as it forced a four and out giving the Bronx team one last chance with 46 seconds remaining. The rest will always be remembered by players, coaches and fans alike. Using a mix of runs, passes, and timeouts the Warriors stood at the 27-yard line with 9 seconds left. Werner dropped back to pass and launched a prefect spiral towards the back of the end zone that was hauled in by Domenic Arena with 4 seconds left to end the NY Warriors streak at 39 and increase the Bronx Warriors streak five games without a defeat. On the day Werner completed 7out of 11 passes for 205 yards with Arena accounting for three of those completions and 129 of the yards. Jayson Gonzalez tallied 86 tough yards and Shane Cherry chipped in with 45. The Warriors look to extend their streak on Sunday 10/11 against the Brooklyn Renegades.

The most exciting game of the day for the Mite Division saw the Youth Star Photo Giants beat the Villa Barone Eagles 14 to 12. An incredible 60-yard run for the first Giants score by Julian Cardona in the first half was capped off by the extra point on an option run by Nicholas Furio. With two minutes left to go in the game the Giants marched down the field when rookie Truth Harris took the ball on a reverse and scampered in for the winning touchdown with 20 seconds left in the game. Russell Randall and Joshua Zarba had a great game on offense. In the second half it was a battle of defenses led by the Giants Mark Cojacaru, Nicholas Bracer, Kevin Manning and Oscar Abreu. Both Eagles touchdowns were scored by Latrel Ambersly. Ambersly ran for over 60-yards in the game. Also adding to the Eagles running game were Richard Rodriguez and Gavin Noriega. Credit the solid blocking of Tyler Carr and Joseph Scovotti that created the holes for the Eagles running game. On defense Gino Galella and Noriega had sacks, Naseem Chang and Joel Torres had fumble recoveries. The difference in this game was the extra points, the Giants made theirs while the Eagles did not.
After their second win, which was highlighted by an interception returned for a touchdown by Conrad Perry and a long touchdown run by James Bloss, the North Bronx Paint and Hardware Jets were going for their third win of the season against the American A-1 Automotive Chiefs. The Jets offense got it started with a long drive, on the backs of a strong offensive line, which finished with a power run up the middle for a touchdown by Conrad Perry. The extra point was added by James Bloss on a sweep to the left side. Strong blocking from everyone on offense helped the Jets put another score on the board with a quarterback sneak for a touchdown by Gerard Weihe. The Jets defense had another monster game. The D-line was in the backfield all day, especially Armani Rodriguez, Wils Kendrick-Holmes and Divine Bramble. A great game was also had by D-ends Evan Roche and Cameron Gomes, along with Linebackers Conrad Perry and Jayden Goins. The defense dominated the game giving up only eight points and extending the Jets record to 3-0. The final score was Jets 13, Chiefs 7.
The Bears ended the first quarter down 19 - 0. Pee Wee Division
Unfortunately, the only game summary submitted for this division comes from the Spartans.
In the 9:00 AM game the Silvestri Carpet Spartans shut out the Jimmy Ryan’s Crusaders 14 to 0. Sean Vanegas of the Spartans returned the opening kick-off 40 yards behind the great block of Anthony Russo. On the next play Jordan Dabkowski took it in from 30 yards out for the touchdown. Jordan finished the day with over 80 yards rushing. Quarterback Christopher Campuzano had a great day passing and running the ball. Campuzano, completed passes to Nicholas Zayas (one for an extra point) and Joseph Silvestri, while running for over 20 yards behind the blocking of Joseph Aparicio. On defense the Spartans played a solid game resulting in keeping the Crusaders off the scoreboard. Frank Pinto and Nicolas Flores both made great open field tackles that stopped the driving Crusaders. Other defensive standouts were Nicholas Gennarelli with a sack, Enrique Santiago with two tackles for a loss and Vanegas, Dabkowski and Zayas with solid tackles.
In the other two Peewee games the Kleen-Awn Blue Devils defeated the Dr. David Stevens Steelers 19 to 0 and the Anthony’s Collision Redskins beat The Food Factory Ramblers 13 to 0.
Junior Division
The Balsamo’s F. H. Javelins defeated the Paddy Doherty’s Black Knights in a close game 20 to 18. Eric Bachelder of the Javelins started the game with a 90-yard kick-off return for a touchdown. The other Javelins score were made by Aaron Gardner and Marc Bowens. Bowens made a great catch and run that covered over 50 yards. Defensively for the Javelins, Antonio Arroyo, Angel Arroyo, Vincent Lee, Jonte Fernandez and Nelson Rivera played a great game to keep the Knights high power offense in check.
In the second Junior game the Giordano F. H. Saints got back to their winning ways by beating the McNulty F. H. Rams 19 to 6. The Rams only touchdown was scored by Dominick Zarba and Christian Santos; they both carried the ball into the end zone. Santos and Christopher Converso shared the quarterback duties, both play well. On the offensive line Anderson Solano, Carlos Burgos, Vincent Gonzalez and Samuel Aviles played a great game. The Rams defense led by Gonzalez, who had a fumble recovery, Sammy Maldonado, Andre Brown and Robert Regal ado with solid tackling kept them in the game.
Big Apple Team
Sunday, 10/11 proved to be a new experience for the Warrior travel team as they lost for the first time in their two year history. While the 7-6 loss seems to reflect a hard fought game, the reality is that the team came out flat and waited too long to start playing tough. The visiting Brooklyn Renegades came out of the gate fast and after converting two 4th down plays punched in a touchdown and important extra point to take a 7-0 1st quarter lead. From there, both teams seemed to struggle and the score remained the same until the midway point of the 4th quarter when the Warriors finally got on the scoreboard as a result of the hard running of CJ Holcomb and Jayson Gonzalez. With the ball sitting on the 7-yard line, QB James Werner hit Domenic Arena on a screen pass and he seemed to zig zag 35 yards to reach the end zone for his 5th TD of the season. Unfortunately, the extra point conversion failed as did the Warriors in their attempt to remain unbeaten. They will need to improve their effort on 10/18 as they travel to Brooklyn for an all important matchup with the Chiefs. A playoff bid now seems to be less certain and the Warriors must win out to ensure a shot at the city championship.

The Bears ended the first quarter down 19 - 0. Pee Wee Division
On a dreary October Saturday the Warrior Peewee Division was able to get all games in. The first game was between the Dr. David Stevens Steelers and The Food Factory Ramblers, with the Ramblers coming out as victors. For the Ramblers the outstanding running of Andrew Geni, with over 200 total yards and three touchdowns was the difference in this game. Credit the solid blocking of the Ramblers offensive line in giving Geni the room to run. On defense, the Ramblers were led by Jimbo Barry with 10 tackles and Michael Zerbo with a 50-yard interception for a touchdown.
The second Peewee game saw the Silvestri Carpet Spartans come from behind to defeat the Kleen-Awn Blue Devils 21 to 13. The Spartans offensive line had a huge game led by Joseph Silvestri, Jeremy Dabkowski and Tank Czerniewski, playing center for the first time this year had a great game. Their blocking enabled Jordan Dabkowski to score three touchdowns of 70, 40 and 50 yards. On defense, Frank Pinto had three sacks and 4 tackles behind the line to stop the driving Blue Devils. Also with a big game on defense for the Spartans was Nicholas Gennarelli with 4 tackles for losses and was unstoppable the entire game. Late in the game Nicholas Zayas recovered a fumble to end a Blue Devils long drive. The Blue Devils suffered their first loss this season against the Spartans. The Devils came out strong the first half, scoring two touchdowns. The offensive line led by Bo Kendrick-Holmes was outstanding the first half of the game opening up many holes for the running backs. The Devils first half defense which kept the Spartans off the score board was led by Daniel Lopez, Christian Gomez, Stephen Ramon and Eric Berrios. However the Devils could not keep up the pressure on defense in the second half allowing the Spartans to score. The Blue Devils are looking forward to their next game against the Spartans at the end of the season to get their revenge.
The last Peewee game of the day saw the Anthony’s Collision Redskins defeat the Jimmy Ryan’s Crusaders 21 to 0. The Redskins offense led by running back Tariq “TD” Davis who scored two touchdowns behind the great blocking of Angel Nevarez played a great game of football. Besides blocking Nevarez chipped in from his fullback position with a powerful dive for the Skins last score. On defense Michael Booth accompanied by Davis took down the Crusaders quarterback in the end zone for a safety. Donovan Ortiz and Steve Leon had some big tackles to keep the Crusaders scoreless for the game.
Junior Division
In the junior game played on Saturday, the Giordano F. H. Saints squeaked out a victory over the Paddy Doherty’s Black Knights 14 to 13. The Saints Jeremy Vega ran for 126 yards on 7 carries with 45-yard and 51-yard touchdown runs. David Rivas-Torres ran for 110 yards on 6 carries and scored both extra points. The solid blocking on the offensive line by Jose Detres, Justin Mogg, Paget Bramble, Robert Silvestri, Christian Zardoya and Steven Ramos opened up the holes for Vega and Rivas-Torres to run through. The Knights offense leaned towards its passing game this week. Quarterback Tony Monserrate made some great passes and Richard Guzman and Richard Johnson made some great catches in this close game. The Knights offensive line led by Juany Colon, Christian Laverde, Vincent Didomenico and Rashaad Bazemore’s pass blocking was solid; this gave Monserrate time to make the plays. On defense the Knights stayed strong with great tackles by William Capo, Malachi Lozada, Guzman and Monserrate. Sean Barry forced two fumbles from his nose guard position.
The game between the McNulty F. H. Rams and Balsamo’s F. H. Javelins scheduled on Sunday was rained out and will be made-up at the end of the season.

The offense was shut out in the first half and the defense gave up a touchdown, putting them behind for the first time this season, 7-0, at halftime. However, like all good teams do, they came out fired up and ready to redeem themselves in the second half. The offense got it started with a long punishing drive in which they held onto the ball for the entire third quarter and into the fourth quarter. The drive was made possible with great blocking by the offensive line, along with outstanding running by halfback Cameron Gomes and quarterback Jayden Goins. The Jets finished the drive on a sweep right for a touchdown by Divine Bramble. The extra point attempt was stopped, leaving the Jets still behind by a score of 7-6. The Jets defense then took the field intent on shutting down the Eagles to give their offense the ball back trailing by only one point now. They did exactly that, flooding the backfield with pressure for three downs and stuffing an attempted fourth down conversion. The pressure was supplied by Armani Rodriguez, Wils Kendrick-Holmes, and Cameron Gomes and big tackles were made by Jayden Goins and Conrad Perry. The Jets offense got the ball back on their own 25-yard line with a little more than four minutes left in the game. The entire offensive unit did a great job hustling in and out of the huddle allowing the Jets to drive down the field quickly. With one minute and fifteen seconds left to play, Conrad Perry scored the go-ahead touchdown on a sweep right for a long run down the sidelines, with the help of a big lead block by James Bloss. The extra point was then added, by quarterback Gerard Weihe, on a bootleg left to put the Jets ahead 13-7. The Jets monster defense then took the field for one last time with the chance to shut the door on the Eagles. Once again they got the job done and put the finishing touch on another outstanding team win by the JETS, who are now 4-0.
The Eagles only touchdown was scored by Gino Galella on a 1-yard quarterback sneak behind the solid blocking of Michael Watson and Anthony Schettino. Christian Valentin had a great day on offense rushing for over 50 yards and defense making five tackles. The Eagles had many defensive stars, Galella had a fumble recovery which was caused by Nathaniel Morales, Richard Rodriquez - four tackles and an assist, Ethan Butler – three tackles one behind the line on a fourth down in the red zone to end the half, Gavin Noriega - five tackles and an assist, and Tyler Carr who’s solo tackles kept this game close. On a beautiful Sunday morning at the Maritime Academy the Youth Sports Photo Giants and the O’Conner Carpet Bears slugged it out in a battle of defenses with the Giants coming out on top 6 to 0. On the Giants side of the ball penalties called back a long run by Julian Cardona and the game was 0-0 at the half. At the opening of the second half an injury to backup quarter back Nicholas Bracer brought on the emergence of Matthew Carrera as a new weapon in the Giants arsenal. Matthew ran the option 3 times and on the 3rd try scored from about 30 yards out for the one and only score of the contest. Outstanding defense by Kevin Manning, Vincent Agovino, Cory Gardner, and Jason Ruiz contributed to this Giant victory.

The Bears ended the first quarter down 19 - 0. Pee Wee Division
On Saturday October 24, the weather gods were with the Warriors as we were able to get all three Peewee games in. In game one the Silvestri Carpet Spartans defeated the Anthony’s Collision Redskins 13 to 7. The Spartans who struggled on offense this game got a 45-yard run by Jordan Dabkowski with the extra point scored by Christopher Campuzano for the first touchdown. Credit the line blocking of Joseph Silvestri, Sean Vanegas and William Espinal in opening up the holes for the runners. The second Spartans score was made by Silvestri on a 20-yard kick-off return. On defense the Spartans had five sacks, three by Frank Pinto and two by Kamhan McLeod. Enrique Santiago forced a fumble that was recovered by Joseph Aparicio. The great tackling of Majhani McLeod, Jaison Robinson and Nicholas Flores kept the Redskins to only one score.
The second Peewee Game saw the Kleen-Awn Blue Devils beat The Food Factory Ramblers 21 to 6. After suffering their first loss of the season last week the Blue Devils came out fired up and won in Blue Devil fashion. The offensive line led by Robert Roman, Lisdrian Pena, Bo Kendrick-Holmes, Navin Harripersad, and Stephan Ramon deserve a great deal of the credit. They held the Ramblers defense off allowing the Devils to score three touchdowns. The Blue Devils are looking forward to another hard fought game against the Crusaders this week.
The final Peewee game had the Jimmy Ryan’s Crusaders defeat the Dr. David Stevens Steelers 20 to 6.
Junior Division
In the second meeting between the Giordano F. H. Saints and the Balsamo’s F. H. Javelins, the Saints looking for revenge for their only loss of the season in their first meeting beat the Javelins 21 to 6. For the Saints Jeremy Vega ran for 116 yards on 9 carries including a 72- yard touchdown run and a 1-yard touchdown run. David Rivas-Torres had 33 yards on 7 carries with 2 extra point conversions. The big story was the defense. Rivas-Torres had an interception with a 55-yard return for a touchdown and he applied pressure on the Javelins all afternoon. Fumble recoveries by Justin Mogg, Anthony Martinez, and Paget Bramble kept the Saints in control. Steven Ramos had a sack and 2 big tackles in the backfield while Justin Hernandez, Jose Detres, Osiris Rolling and Kevin Payano played outstanding defense to keep the Javelins to only one score. The Javelins only touchdown came in the third quarter on a 45-yard run by Aaron Gardner. Opening the holes for Gardner were Nelson Rivera, James Glenn, Corey Gonzalez and Trenaine Whitaker. On defense, Justin Pena and Marc Bowens played a great game.
The Javelins are looking for their last game with the Saints in three weeks to see who will win the battle of the Funeral Homes in the Junior Division.
The Paddy Doherty’s Black Knights evened the score against the McNulty F. H. Rams on Sunday with a 14 to 6 victory at Pelham Bay Park. Under the watchful eye of the American Boy Statue, Rams running backs Christian Monteavaro and Jovan Rivera pounded out 100-yard games. Excellent blocking by Christian Santos and Steven Redrovan paved the way to a score by Rivera. Defensive coach Raymond Iannacone Jr., praised his team who held the Knights in check until the Knights running back broke two long runs. Offensive coach John Alba said “our passing game needs lots of work, we had people open but we couldn’t connect.” The Knights picked up their first win this season. Malachi Lozada broke free on a screen and a sweep giving him two touchdowns. Richard Johnson added both extra points. The Knights defense shut down the Rams offense. Sean Barry at nose guard was able to break up plays before they developed. When the Rams were forced to go outside Lozada and Tony Monserrate were there to stop it. If the Knights can continue this level of play they will be a force to contend with the rest of the season.

The American A-1 Auto Chiefs and Youth Star Photo Giants put on a very physical contest on Halloween with the Giants coming out on top 7 to 0. With both defenses showing their muscle in the first half, the Giants struck first due to great blocking by Mark Cojacaru, Russell Randall, and Oscar Abreu leading the way for versatile Julian Cardona on a 30-yard scamper down the sideline for the first touchdown of the game. The Giants then came out in the second half and put on a balanced offensive attack that chewed up the clock and kept them in possession of the ball for the whole third quarter. The Giants new secret weapon at QB, Matthew Carrera, put on an aerial show with 3 out of 5 completions in the half. Defensive standouts were all first year players Jason Ruiz, Oscar Abreu, Joshua Zarba, and Russell Randall. For the Chiefs, strong blocking by Lorenzo Maida and Carlos Pena was not enough to get the Chiefs a victory. While the team played hard every down and had good running by Jacob Tlaseca, Liam O’Neill, Zach Hoina and Dylan Matos they fell short. Defensively, Anthony Santiago had an outstanding day making several solo tackles and assisting his teammates on many of the plays to his side of the field. Erim Pelinkovic and Sal Maida also had strong defensive outing and made several tackles.
The O’Conner Carpet Bears claimed their first victory of the season against the Villa Barone Manor Eagles in an exciting 13 to 0 game. Quarterback Damian Garcia scored his first touchdown on a 46-yard bootleg run in the second quarter. Matthew Careccia scored on the conversion with a powerful Quarterback sneak. However, the story of the day goes to the Bears' defense that was led by defensive linemen, Connor Hanley-Piri, Frankie Mennona, John Mullins, John Fragale and Matthew Careccia who all relentlessly put pressure on the Eagles' backfield. Outside Linebacker Jasua Liranzo made the most dramatic tackle, which prevented the Eagles from scoring on a 52-yard running play. Not to be outdone, big brother Jeiro Liranzo was on fire all day accumulating 5 tackles and two sacks. In the third quarter, the offensive line led by Daniel DeMartis and Quincy Faucett, made key blocks opening big holes for running back Jason Rivera and Damian Garcia to run through. Garcia scored the Bears second touchdown. In the fourth quarter, the Bears' defense prevented two red zone attacks with explosive tackles from Joey Mossiello, Tyler Carreras, Darryl Hagans and Mark Kocaj.
The Bears ended the first quarter down 19 - 0. Pee Wee Division
The first Peewee game of the week saw the Kleen-Awn Blue Devils defeat the Jimmy Ryan’s Crusaders 12 to 0. The Blue Devils played another outstanding game this week. Angel Lopez, Christian Gomez and Eric Berrios stepped up big on defense in keeping the Crusaders scoreless. The Devils were without their all star center Bo Kendrick-Holmes this week, but Billy Rueger stepped in to fill the position at center. Rueger did a phenomenal job in blocking and executing the center/quarterback exchange. The Blue Devils would like to welcome back lineman Christian Santos who has been out sick most of the season.
In the second Peewee game, the Silvestri Carpet Spartans beat The Food Factory Ramblers 19 to 13. All three Spartans touchdowns were scored by Jordan Dabkowski. The first one on a 45-yard run, second on an 80-yard run and the third on a 50-yard interception run back. The solid blocking of the Spartans offensive line led by Anthony Russo, Joseph Silvestri, Jeremy Dabkowski, Victor Falu and Theodore “Tank” Czerniewski created the huge holes for Dabkowski to run through. On defense for the Spartans, Enrique Santiago, Victor Falu, Joseph Aparicio and Kamhan McLeod all had quarterback sacks. The great open field tackles by William Espinal, Nicholas Gennarelli, Sean Vanegas, Nicholas Flores and Christopher Campuzano helped stop all but two Ramblers drives to ensure this victory for the Spartans.
The final Peewee game of the week Anthony’s Collision Redskins beat Dr. David Stevens Steelers 20 to 0. Angel Nevarez scored the Redskins first touchdown on a 50-yard run behind the blocking of Michael Booth and Khalid Husain. Ryan Cox got his first touchdown of the year on a double reverse for 60 yards. The final Skins' touchdown was scored by Tariq “TD” Davis on a 20-yard run up the middle. On defense the hard hitting Redskins led by middle linebacker Steve Leon kept the Steelers off the score board making this the fourth shutout of the year for the Redskins.
Junior Division
The Balsamo’s F. H. Javelins kept their hopes high to finish in first place this season by defeating the Paddy Doherty’s Black Knights 21 to 6. The Javelins scored only one touchdown in the first half and that was by Eric Bachelder on a 10-yard run behind the blocking of Nelson Rivera. Antoine Stone and Jayson Ramos scored the other two Javelins touchdowns in the second half. Credit the solid tackling of Rivera, Antonio Arroyo and Melvin Harrell on defense in keeping the Knights to only one score. The Black Knights touchdown came on a double reverse from Richard Guzman to Tony Monserrate. Guzman also made some good catches from Richard Johnson, but it wasn’t enough. The Knights' defense played well, but it was not enough to hold the Javelins. Johnson, Guzman and Malachi Lozada played a strong defense in a losing cause.
In the second Junior game of the week, the Giordano F. H. Saints squeaked a win against the McNulty F. H. Rams 6 to 0 to take the series 3 games to 0. The first half saw no scoring by either team. The Saints Osiris Rolling had his first start at quarterback while Tyron Ingram got his chance as running back and carried four times for 21-yards. In the second half the Saints came alive. Jeremy Vega had 39 yards on two carries; David Rivas-Torres had 28-yards on two carries and had an 18-yard reception from Nicolas Garcia. Rivas-Torres scored the only touchdown on a one yard plunge behind the blocking of Dalai Rosado, Jose Detres, Robert Silvestri, Justin Mogg and Anthony Martinez. On defense Justin Hernandez and Detres contained the Rams running game while Paget Bramble and Josh Nugent made some big tackles. Jeremy Vega had an interception to kill the Rams last drive. For the rams Jovan Rivers and Christian Monteavaro ran well and Christian Santos completed an important first down pass to Dominick Zarba. Linemen Samuel Aviles, Steven Redrovan, Anderson Solano, Carlos Burgos and Justin Nieves blocked well. On defense Jovan Rivers recovered a fumble.

Mite Division
In the Mite game played on Saturday, the American A-1 Auto Chiefs defeated the Villa Barone Eagles 27 to 6. The Eagles only touchdown was scored by Latrell Ambersly. Ambersly also ran for over 65 yards for the day. Christian Valentin had a good day running the ball; he had over 35 yards on the ground. The Eagles running game could not have succeeded if not for the solid offensive line blocking by Michael Watson, Ethan Butler, Nathaniel Morales, Joseph Scovotti and Anthony Schettino. On defense for the Eagles, Gino Galella, Jason Castellanos and Joel Torres had a solid game.
The North Bronx Paint and Hardware Jets were coming off a bye this week to face the O’Conner Carpet Bears for the second time this season. This time the Bears proved to be a much tougher opponent. The Jet's normally stingy defense gave up a touchdown on the Bears first possession of the game. However, they tightened up and stuffed the point after attempting to hold the Bears to just a 6-0 lead. The Jet's offense then took the field ready to strike back. They moved the ball down the field with strong runs for short yardage up the middle, followed by a long run for more than thirty yards by James Bloss. With the ball now on the twenty yard line, quarterback Gerard Weihe took the snap from center, ran left and followed his blockers and put the ball in the end zone for the Jet's first touchdown. The extra point was added on a well executed run by James Bloss, putting the Jets on top 7-6. The Bears would score again though and the Jets were down 12-7 at halftime. In the second half, the Jets whole team showed the toughness and resilience it takes to win football games. It started with the offense who put together a strong drive but wound up coming up short on a fourth down attempt. Then it was the defense's turn to take over. Defensive linemen Divine Bramble and Armani Rodriguez proved to be too much to handle for the Bears. Bramble came up with one big tackle after another bringing down running backs deep in the backfield. Wils Kendrick-Holmes, Christopher Amarosa and Diego Morales also played strong on the line and helped put together a strong defensive stand. Like they always do, the Jets defense gave the ball back to their offense for a chance to win the game. The offense did not disappoint. They drove the length of the field behind the strength of strong blocking and hard running. The entire offensive unit did their job in the second half and on this drive it resulted in a long 40-yard run for a touchdown by Conrad Perry, putting the Jets on top once again 13-12. It wasn't over yet; the defense had to come up big one more time. Cameron Gomez and Divine Bramble were in the backfield on every play of the last drive. Finally, on third down, the Bears took a chance on a pass over the middle but the Jet's whole D-line was in the quarterback's face and Conrad Perry was on the receiver. Perry intercepted the pass, which was tipped at the line, and returned it for a touchdown. This put the Jets up 19-12 and sealed the deal on another Jets victory. The Jets are now 5-0.
The Bears ended the first quarter down 19 - 0. Pee Wee Division
On Saturday the Anthony’s Collision Redskins beat the Kleen-Awn Blue Devils in a very close game 19 to 14. The Blue Devils came out strong, Richard Mameli scored two first half touchdowns but the second half proved to be a different matter by giving up three second scores to the Redskins. The Blue Devils offensive line played awesome, Christian Santos stepped up big in his first game back. Diana Velez, Robert Roman, Lisdrian Pena and Jose Lopez stepped up on special teams this week. The Devils are looking to bounce back this week against the Steelers.
The Silvestri Carpet Spartans continued their winning ways by defeating the Dr. David Stevens Steelers 26 to 6. Christopher Campuzano threw to Sean Vanegas for a 30-yard touchdown to start the Spartans scoring. Nicholas Zayas added the extra point. Joseph Aparicio's back-up running back scored on a 40-yard run. Behind the blocks of Jordan Dabkowski and Joseph Silvestri, Vanegas scored his second touchdown on a 15-yard scamper. Back-up quarterback William Espinal completed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Silvestri. Frank Pinto, Nicholas Flores and Jordan Dabkowski contributed to the Spartans running game by running for over 110 yards combined. This solid offensive game for the Spartans could not have happened if not for the guys up front, Theodore “Tank” Czerniewki, Anthony Russo, Nicholas Gennarelli and Jeremy Dabkowski, blocking on pass plays and opening the holes for the running game. Defensively for the Spartans, Enrique Santiago, Kamhan McLeod, Jaison Robinson and Majhani McLeod all had a good day with solid tackles and forcing many Steelers fumbles.
Junior Division
The junior game played on Saturday between the Giordano F. H. Saints and the Paddy Doherty’s Black Knights the Saints came out on top 6 to 0.

Joseph Aulla had a great day blocking for the Javelins running game. On defense the Javelins had a solid game from Antonio Arroyo, Corey Gonzales, Justin Pena, Melvin Harrell and Anthony Muniz by keeping the Rams to only one score all game. The Rams played iron man football as only 12 players represented the Green and White. Coach Jay praised players, Sammy Maldonado, Dominick Zarba, Justin Nieves and David Sepulveda who were playing out of position. Jovan Rivera and Christian Monteavaro ran well and Christian Santos at quarterback turned in a solid game.

Mite Division
The North Bronx Paint & Hardware Jets and Youth Star Photo Giants were the only two unbeaten teams left in the Mite Division. The first meeting of these teams was rained out, so the Jets were faced with the daunting task of beating the same team twice on back to back days. The first game on Saturday started with the Jets on defense. The Jets “D” quickly reminded everyone why they were still unbeaten by forcing a fumble which was recovered by Divine Bramble. The Offense then took over and drove the ball down the field with ease scoring a touchdown on a quarterback sneak by Gerard Weihe. The extra point was not successful, so the Jets were up 6-0. Once again, the Jets' defense took the field, and once again they caused a fumble, this one recovered by Cameron Gomes. The Jet's defense, however, gave up a touchdown right before the half making the game a 6-6 tie at halftime. At the start of the third quarter, the Jets second offense took the field and put the ball in the end zone on the very first play with a run right up the middle for 55 yards by Divine Bramble. The Jets were now in the lead 12-6. The defense went on to cause another fumble, which was recovered by James Bloss, and shut down the Giants' offense for the rest of the game. Outstanding performances were turned in by defense linebackers Conrad Perry and Jayden Goins. Defensive end Cameron Gomes also played a great game, along with the three headed monster on the line made up of Armani Rodriguez, Wills Kendrick-Holmes and Divine Bramble. The Jets were now 6-0-1.
The Jets were now the only unbeaten team in the Mite Division going into the second game against the Giants on Sunday. The beginning of the game felt like “déjà vu all over again”. The Jets' defense started with a big hit for a fumble recovered by Evan Roche. The offense would take over and put together a nice drive but did not get any points out of it. The Jets “D” then gave up a touchdown with one big play but stopped the point after attempt putting them behind 6-0. However, the defense would be the main reason why the Jets were still in the game. The rest of the game would be a defensive struggle and a battle for field position. Tremendous defensive performances were turned in by Cameron Gomes, Conrad Perry, Jayden Goins and Evan Roche. The “D” line, especially Armani Rodriguez, Wills Kendrick-Holmes and Divine Bramble were wreaking havoc all day. The Jets “D” would win the battle for field position. Conrad Perry busted through the line on a third and long to make one of his many tackles in the back field forcing the Giants to punt and give the ball back to the Jets with a minute and 50 seconds left to play. Then, on the first play of the possession the Jets ran the ball right up the gut. Following a huge lead block by Wills Kendrick-Holmes, quarterback Gerard Weihe ran for 35 yards on a QB sneak to score the tying touchdown and put the Jets in position to win the game. The extra point would be critical. Finally, after trailing all day and fighting to come back, the Jets did it with a hand-off by James Bloss and a big lead Block by Conrad Perry. Bloss ran a sweep left right into the corner of the end zone for the game winning point. That finished off the Giants for the second time on consecutive days capping off an undefeated season for the Jets with a record of 7-0-1.
In the other mite game played on Saturday the American A-1 Auto Chiefs beat the O’Connor Carpet Bears 12 to 0.
The Bears ended the first quarter down 19 - 0. Pee Wee Division
The Silvestri Carpet Spartans and the Kleen-Awn Blue Devils played at Maritime College on Saturday to see who would win the Warrior Pee Wee Division. The Spartans were in this same position last year but lost to the Ramblers. This they would not be denied, they defeated the Blue Devils 27 to 7. The Spartans started the game with Joseph Silvestri recovering the opening kick-off fumble the led to Jordan Dabkowski’s first touchdown of the game. Ski scored on a 13-yard run with Sean Vanegas adding the extra point. Jordan would not be done, behind the outstanding blocking of Silvestri, Ski scored twice more, one on a 60-yard run, with Christopher Campuzano adding the extra point on a quarterback keeper and the other on an 80-yard dash breaking at least four tackles on the way to the end zone. This extra point was made by William Espinal on a pass from Campuzano. To end the Spartan scoring, Mr. Dabkowski put on a show late in the game by zigzagging, breaking tackles and running over 85-yards to the end zone. Jordan had his best day as a Warrior; he ran for over 300 yards and scored four touchdowns on the day. The Spartans defense came to play also. Their great play kept the high scoring Blue Devils to only seven points. Leading the way was Joseph Aparicio with a sack, Espinal with three tackles for losses, Enrique Santiago with a touchdown saving tackle, Nicholas Zayas and Nicholas Gennarelli with tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

The Blue Devils came out hard and played great on offense. The Blue Devils only score was made by Richard Mameli on a 45-yard run down the side line. Eric Berrios played well all game long leading the Devils offensive attack. Solid defensive play was turned in by Diana Velez, Billy Rueger, Bo Kendrick-Holmes, Stephen Ramon and Robert Roman.
