Brockville Blues Midget Boys Basketball Team Win Silver At US Tournament

20 Team Tournament
The Brockville Blues Midget Boys Basketball team won 6 straight Games at the St. Lawrence University Basketball Tournament in Canton New York on the weekend. The team then lost to the OFA Blue Devils 56-48 in the championship game.
The Blues were supposed to play in the Junior Division (based on their age - the team is comprised of 14-15 year olds) but played up into the Under 18 division. The team represented the region, the province and the country well getting to the final.
The Blues defeated teams from Heuvelton, Hudson Falls, Governeur and Canton en route to te play-off round.
In the Play-off rounds Brockville defeated Riverview 45-33 to advance to the semi finals.
In the Semi Final - Brockville defeated Hudson Falls 53-34.
In the Final - Brockville lost 56-49 to OFA

Blues have disappointing Finish at Provincials
The Brockville Blues started the Provincial Championships looking like a favorite to win it all but a series of injuries and fatigue quickly turned the Midget Boys fortunes.
The Blues defeated the Niagara Falls Red Raiders 64-45 in the opening round of pool play. The Blues dominated from the start jumping out to a 21-6 lead early and never looking back. Tim Nedow led the team with 21 points while Cody Hache had 11 and Will McFall and Adrian Smith had 10 each.
In the second game of the tournament the Blues defeated Cambridge 67-47 and again jumped out quickly on their opponents 17-5 and held a 33-22 lead at the break. By the end of the 3rd quarter the game was over as the Blues led 53-30.

In the final pool game the Blues met a very physical Toronto team. The Blues has a slew of injuries during that game. Adrian Smith hurt his Quad, Cody Hache hurt his knee, Will McFall hurt his ankle. The Blues fought hard but fell 69-66. This meant the team finished 2nd in the pool and would face the powerfull Core City (Windsor) in the quarter finals.
Leading scorers - Nedow-26, Hache-12, Moore-9, McFall-9, Smith-9
In the quarter finals the Blues had to change their strategy and could not employ their pressing aggressive defence. The team used quality contributions from the bench to take a 37-28 lead at the half. The lead collpsed in the 3rd quarter and the Blues trailed 50-46 after 3 quarters. it was close down the stretch but the Blues fell 65-61.

The team is off until the week of June 5-12 when they will travel to Clinton New York for an AAU tournament.

The Brockville Midget Blues won both of their pool play games to advance to the medal round of the fourth annual Midget Blues Invitational.
The Blues defeated Osgoode Rideau 73-45 in the first game. All players contributed to the win with Hudson Allison breaking out with 2 key 3 pointers.
Adrian Smith dominated the slower Bedrock and finished with 20 points. Cody Hache and Tim Nedow scored 12 each while Cathan Moore had 10.
Against the West Ottawa Lightning, Tim Nedow scored a slam dunk off the opening tip and the Blues never looked back. Nedow and Moore dominated the smaller Lightning scoring 21 and 13 points respectively.
SEMI FINAL
In the Semi Final the Blues faced the Cornwall Lions. Will McFall got the Blues going early knocking down 3 three pointers to give the Blues a quick 12-4 lead. Brockville could only manage 1 point the last 5 minutes of the 1st quarter and finished with 13 1st quarter points.
Cornwall solved the Blues traps to take a 32-30 lead at the half.
The Blues extended their pressure full court and created some turnovers in the second half. Missing key players Nedow, Smith and Adam Murray meant the Blues used every player to secure the win

FINAL
The Blues led 45-34 in the third quarter but could not hold on to defeat the athletic Hull Dragons. Turnovers plagued the Blues down the stretch as the Dragons made a late push. Second chance points also hurt the Brockville team.
Final Score - Hull 64, Brockville 58.
Leading Scorers - Moore-18, Smith-17, McFall-14, Hache-8
Brockville is currently ranked #32 in te province and will play in the Provincial Championships next weekend

Blues Win Silver in Giant Invitational
The Brockville Blues Midget Boys team defeated a tough Kingston Squad 51-30 in the semi finals of the Giant Invitational.
The Rebels attempted to slow the game down but the Blues were successful in creating turnovers and getting some easy baskets. The Blues struggled converting easy baskets but still led 32-9 at the half.
The 2nd half was all Brockville as the team increased its lead to 46-13.
Scorers - Tim Nedow-17, Cathan Moore-13, Cody Hache-10, Adrian Smith-9.
In the Final the Blues started out strong jumping on the Wolverines #1 18-13 after the first quarter. The Blues led 21-15 before they went into a scoring funk. over the last 4 minutes of the 1st half and the first 3 1/2 minutes of the second half the Blues did not score. this allowed The Gloucester squad to jump to a 38-21 lead. The Blues focussed themselves and cut the lead to 43-34 after the third.
The comeback got as close as 45-41 before fouls and fatigue took there toll. The final score was Blues 46, Wolverines 60.
Scorers - Smith-13, Nedow-12, McFall-11, Hache-10
The team is now 17-2 on the season.

Blues Claim Gold in Gloucester Tournament
The Blues defeated the Wolverines #2 by a score of 76 - 38 to win the Gloucester Tournament. The team was once again led by Balanced scoring as all 5 starters scored over 10 points and averaged over 10 points per game for the tournament.
The Blues have a week off before resuming practice next Tuesday at South Grenville DHS.
