Welcome to the Buc's Football Site.: Buc's History
Sunday, July 20The Brockton Buccaneers (Bucs) of the Eastern Football League (EFL) were originally co-founded by Emmitt Lundy and Tyrone Fleming in 2004. Lundy was a diehard football fan and wanted to bring a semi-pro football team to Brockton (City of Champions). It was his goal to establish a perennial top tier team. He assembled a good balance of veteran players with some youthful local Brockton talent.
Emmitt wasnt sure how the team would do in their inaugural season. He knew that he had great talent, but didnt know how well that talent would mesh together. In their first season in the EFL, the Brockton Bucs took the league by storm. They started the season with 7 straight wins before losing to the defending champion Middleboro Cobras. The Bucs would finish the regular season with a 9-1 record. The Bucs hosted perennial powerhouse Marlboro Shamrocks in the 2004 EFL Championship, losing 14-7 in a hard fought battle.
In their second season, the Bucs finished 6-2 in the regular season. This season was more trying for the Bucs because they lost their owner and co-founder, Emmitt Lundy, who passed away unexpectedly prior to the start of the season. Rob Carpenter took over as owner in hopes to keep Lundys spirit alive through the team. The Bucs vied for the title again, but this time on the road against the Middleboro Cobras. The contest went back and forth and was decided by a field goal with Middleboro winning 24-21 as time expired.
The third year was brought under new ownership. Derek Wright and Tony Rodrigues decided to keep this championship calibre team together and went into their pockets to keep the Bucs going. The Bucs lost some key players but were still able to put a championship driven team on the field. They had a rematch against the Middleboro Cobras for their 2006 championship quest. The Cobras got the best of the Bucs with a 38-13 win.
In the fourth year of existence, the Bucs finally struck paydirt by beating the Charlestown Townies 20-13 to win the 2007 Eastern Football League Championship.
