Brisbane AYSO, Region #1344: News: What is AYSO?

What is AYSO?

If you are new to AYSO, you might wonder what it is. AYSO is the American Youth Soccer Organization. We are all volunteers (none of us get paid). Everything we do is for the kids. We strongly believe in the 6 philosophies of AYSO:

  • Everyone plays - Every player must play at least 1/2 of each game. Parents are an important part of the team. We all work together to benefit all the kids.
  • Open Enrollment - We don't turn any children away. NO TRYOUTS! This program is for every kid who wants to play and/or referee soccer. We will screen all volunteers to protect the kids. We reserve the right to reject any volunteer if it is in the best interest of the kids to do so.
  • Positive Coaching - Only positive coaching is allowed!
  • Balanced Teams - We believe that soccer is most rewarding when competing teams are evenly balanced. Lopsided victories are not good for either team. Because we are a small region, this is often difficult to accomplish. We will do everything we can to balance teams.
  • Good Sportsmanship - Whether you win, lose, make a mistake, or just have a bad day; this game is about having fun, supporting your team and honoring your opponent. This is the "big picture". If a player or referee makes a mistake (that is how we learn), don't yell at them. Give them a helping hand and tell them it's OK they will do better next time.
  • Player Development - New this year! All players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.
