Mark your calendars -- the date has been set for the BBVA Members' Tournament.  The official date is Sunday, September 6, 2009 @ 10:00am.  Here is the official e-mail message (sent on Sunday, August 23, 2009) from Barry Miltner, the President of BBVA:

Fellow Brigantine Beach Volleyball Association Members,

Two weeks from today, on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at 10:00am, we will be holding the annual member's tournament and barbecue on 38th street beach.

For those of you that aren't familiar, the member's tournament is for BBVA members only.  The format is randomly selected coed fours.  The BBVA will provide liquid refreshments, burgers and hot dogs.  Other food items such as salads, snacks, desserts and assorted goodies have been brought by the members on a volunteer basis.

While the tournament itself is only for members, family members are welcome too.  We ask that if you do bring a guest, that you also bring a food item.

Please RSVP very soon.  We have to know how much stuff to buy.  Also let us know if you are bringing anything and what it is.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all there!

** The Summer season (on 38th Street beach) began on Thursday, May 21, and was a huge success!  More than 25 people came out to play 6's and doubles (on 4 courts.) If you wish to join the fun:

-- Cost will be $30 plus $10 for GAV membership; play is on Thursday nights, and lasts through the summer till about mid-September.  Play resumes Thursday, August 27, 2009, at 6:00 P.M.  See you all there!

On Thursday, May 22, 2008, the BBVA had a successful "opening night", with about 18 eager players taking to 2 courts (one 6's & 1 doubles).  An apparent, relatively new "tradition" took place, as reporter Doug Shimell from NBC10 News came out again this year to report the success of BBVA as a pre-opener/early start to Memorial Day weekend 2008.  The story was broadcast on the 11:00 news on Thursday, May 22, 2008.  But if you didn't get to see/tape the news that night, no need to worry -- you can catch the story on the YouTube link provided above.  Enjoy!
