Turner Ashby High School's Little League "Baseball Knight" has been postponed until 7 p.m. Saturday, May 7. The game will be held on the baseball field behind John Wayland Elementary School. Those attending should arrive by 6:15 p.m. to be ready for the 7 p.m. start.

BCLL players, coaches and managers can get into the game for free by wearing their Bridgewater team jersey. BCLL players will run onto the field during the introduction of TA's players. An autograph session, meet the players and picture time will follow the game. Bring whatever you would like autographed. Prizes will be given out during the game as well.

Please consider coming out for this fun evening and supporting many of our former BCLL baseball players.

Thank you to those who supported our Opening Day raffles. The winners are:

Ashby Pool Party - Aaron Kinsey

Bridgewater College Baseball Camp - Leslie Dove

EMU Baseball Camp - Jeremy Mason

Winners, please stop by the concession stand on Field 3 to pick up the certificates. Ask for Patti or Jini.

We are in need of umpires for the season. Would you consider helping us out? Trying to find umpires for both softball and baseball games is always difficult and we are always in need of help. If you have any experience or would be willing to learn how to do this, we need you.

Many people are concerned about learning rules, being yelled at by spectators or being brow-beaten by coaches. The league is here to support you in all of that, if you are willing to help, and to make sure that does not happen.

We do allow adolescents who have significant baseball or softball experience and understand the rules to help umpire, but they must be two age levels above the league for which they are umpiring. For example, if they are umpiring in minor league, they must be at least junior league age (13 or older) to umpire.

If you would be willing to help umpire, please contact:

Baseball:Travis Long, or at 421-0939

Softball: Carol Adams, 578-2030

On Sunday, Bridgewater Community Little League lost an important member of its league. Garland Wise, long-time president, manger, coach and umpire for the league, died Feb. 14.

Garland was integral in the building of BCLL to what it has become today - one of the best leagues in the state. In addition to his role with BCLL, Garland served on the District 3 staff for many years.

Many of our former and current players have fond memories of Garland cheering on their teams at the local, district and state levels. He supported all children who wanted to play baseball and softball and made BCLL home to many. We hold his family and friends in our thoughts and prayers during this time.

Condolences may be sent to his family at

Thanks again to all of the volunteers who made the 2015 Jennie Finch Softball Camp a great success. BCLL and JMU hosted the camp the weekend of August 29-30. (see picture below)
