Baseball: Welcome

Bridgeport Youth Association Baseball

The BYA Baseball program is designed to teach the fundamentals of baseball to all youth of Bridgeport.  Our baseball program is part of the Wise County Baseball Assocition and is not sanctioned with a National Youth League.  Players must play in their age division unless they are within 6 months of the April 30th date. No player will be allowed to play down except an 8th grader who has an early birthday.

The following age division are as follows:

T-Ball (ages 5 - 6)

This is the lowest level of play.  The emphasis is strictly on learning the game and is not meant to be competitive at all. Scorebooks are not used. All players are allowed in the field on defense and coaches are allowed to be on the field to advise them. Play stops when an infielder holds up the ball. On offense all players bat and are allowed three pitches and then ball is placed on a Tee. A team bats all their line-up.  Each player is awarded a trophy at the end of the season.

Coach Pitch (ages 7 & 8)

At this level a coach pitches to the player in order to get the players familiar with hitting a pitched ball. Like T-ball the emphasis is on learning the game and the games should only be mildly competitive. There will be 3 outs or 10 batters per inning, which ever comes first. A team is allowed ten players and one coach on defense if opposing team has 10 also. Play stops when the balls is back in the pitchers position in the circle. On offense all players are put in the batting order. Catching equipment is used but primarily to get players used to it.

This is the first level of play at which real baseball is played. Bases are at 60'; pitcher's mound at 42'. Players are taught pitching, catching, stealing, etc.
