March 1, 2007- NOW look what they're saying about the Bucs (The Sports editor of the "Galveston Daily News" wrote the following blog on the 2007 District 24-5A outlook): District 24-5A
1. Brazoswood - With Yobes Walker returning at running back, it's hard to see how the Bucs won't be favored to win the district next season.
2. Ball High - They got a lot coming back on offense, along with district defensive MVP Mike Littleton. The Tors figure to give Brazoswood its toughest competition for the district crown.
3. Pearland - The Oilers lost their two best players. But they certainly have a lot of depth and should be big in the thick of the playoff chase.
4. Clear Lake - The one CCISD school that won't be affected by the opening of the new Clear Springs High School, the Falcons should be able to build on this year's improvement.
5. Clear Creek - Neil Warden is returning for his senior year. But the Wildcats lost their best receivers and still have a lot of holes on defense. It's tough to see them making the playoffs unless those questions are answered quickly.
6. Clear Brook - The Wolverines are without a coach right now and will lose depth to Clear Springs. Hard to judge them right now until it's announced who will be the next head coach.
7. Alvin - With the way this district turned out this season, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Alvin winning the district crown next year. That's just how balanced these seven teams are.
2006 District 24-5A Teams and playoff results: #1- Brazoswood (Div II) beat Clements 42-35, beat La Porte 28-7, fell to Katy 7-38. District 24-5A Champ Bucs finish 11-2.
#2- Pearland (Div I) beat Dulles 47-22, beat North Shore 21-14, beat Katy Cinco Ranch, beat Cy-Fair 16-15, lost to Austin Westlake in state semifinal.
#3- Galveston Ball (Div II) lost to Marshall 33-27 in round one
#4- Clear Creek (Div I) lost to Hightower 20-14 in round one The two 24-5A schools (B'wood and Pearland eliminated District 22-5A over the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend)
NOTE- Division II and Division I teams do not play each other in the playoffs...it is only something the state came up with to keep the big and bigger (enrollment-wise) schools apart. It does not guarantee in any way that Division I teams are better.

Buc Football Great- David Hodge honored at University of Houston-Tulsa Game Saturday November 4, 2006
HOUSTON, TX- Former Brazoswood football great David Hodge was honored by his alma mater- The University of Houston, by being inducted into the UH Hall of Honor this past weekend. The Former Buc played a huge role in helping the Bucs win the 1974 State Championship. He then went on to college and then to the pros.
Hodge was represented by his daughter and highlights of Hodge's college football days at UH were displayed on the giant Robertson Stadium scoreboard screen during halftime.
To top it all off, the honor was witnessed by a 22,ooo+ crowd that was there to watch the Cougars trample Tulsa 27-10 to set up a run for the Conference USA Championship Game.
What a fitting tribute to one of B'wood's all-time football greats.

Webmaster's Buc Blog for November 5, 2006:
The 2006 Buccaneers are well on their way to the state playoffs despite being written off by every major high school sports media outlet this year. Yes this is November and yes these are the Brazoswood Buccaneers.
Yet, much to everyone's surprise...there is an old saying: "The only thing new is the history you don't know", and the Bucs have a big part in Texas football history. Making the playoffs was the norm, not the surprise.
Many people who follow Brazoswood football history have the history already branded into their brains: The playoff wins under L.Z. Bryan, the 1974 State Championship, The string of deep playoff runs year after year in the 1970's and early 1980's, the slumps/coaching changes of the late 80's-90's and playoff resurgence under Jim Arthur, and Dean De Atley.
Now, the 2006 team under Coach De Atley has added their glorious chapter to the Brazoswood history books. No matter what happens at Clear Lake, the Bucs shocked everybody but themselves. They knew all along that they were destined for greatness, despite what Dave Campbell wrote.
Anyone who knows B'wood football knows that they ALWAYS expect to win and they always have. Even in the 1-9 years, the Bucs always planned to win. The coaches at B'wood always teach you to expect to win. Many know the old traditions and the old expectations and the pride that comes with wearing the B'wood helmet. Even when they go off into life, Former Bucs always want their high school to win.
I saw a neat thing after the Alvin game at Hopper Field, when I walked past the L.Z. Bryan Fieldhouse...there were a few B'wood players coming out of the fieldhouse and they were crying. Yes- crying.
There were other times too like a time when the Bucs of 1983 played Dulles at Mercer Stadium for the 25-5A Championship. Both teams were 9-0 and B'wood was ranked #4 in the state. Dulles had edged the Bucs to win 25-5A and the Bucs finished 9-1 and at the end of that game too...many of the B'wood players were crying.
They say that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and pain is God's way of making you know you are still alive. It was good to see those guys cry after that Alvin game because it shows how much they care about winning....just like those guys did in the early days.
To those who care about winning, we salute you.
Future Changes Are On 24-5A Horizon
Many changes are on the horizon, and District 24-AAAAA as we know it today will never be the same. The explosion of Pearland has forced the building of two new high schools. The first- Glenda Dawson High School is already on the drawing board and will be built on Cullen Boulevard (West Pearland). A second new high school yet to be named, will occupy the current Pearland Junior High School campuses. The plan is to combine the two junior highs into one high school.
Alvin ISD already has built Manvel High School, and the Mavs will eventually make it into Class 5A one day. Clear Creek ISD is building three new high schools. One is already about to open- Clear Springs. Clear Springs (the Chargers) is located on the Western side of I-45 in League City off of Palomino Lane and will open Fall 2007 and get this- our friends at CCISD love us so much, that they adopted the B'wood colors: blue and silver, for their new high school!! LOL. Whatever happens, it will be interesting to see what new rivalries will develop and it will be sad to see old rivalries fade as new districts are formed.
These are my future scenarios for a future realignment:
District X:
(Like Sugar Land and Missouri City did, Clear Lake, League City, and Friendswood will make their own district)
Clear Creek Wildcats
Clear Lake Falcons
Clear Brook Wolverines
Clear Springs Chargers (League City)
CCISD HS #5 (in Seabrook)
CCISD HS #6
District Y:
(A Brazoria County 5A District)
Brazoswood Bucs
Alvin YellowJackets
Manvel Mavericks
Pearland Oilers
Pearland Glenda Dawson HS
Pearland HS #3 (to be at the current PHS 9th grade center location)
(Angleton could rejoin if they ever come back to 5A)
NOW the million dollar question begs to be asked...Will BISD build another 5A high school or will they rebuild Brazoswood like other districts have done with their schools?? What kind of costs would be involved?
Brazoswood is a beautiful campus just the way it is, but the explosive growth of the Southern Brazoria County area forces the question of whether the current campus can hold a growing student population. BISD is currently faced with tough decisions not unlike many other districts across Texas.
One scenario: Remodel the current B'wood campus and leave it for Clute and build a new Lake Jackson High School near the Brazos Mall.
My FAVORITE scenario: "Rebuild" the B'wood campus just where it is, making it bigger, keep Lake Jackson and Clute together, take the Slade Field Complex and transform it into a high school football stadium (like Fort Bend ISD did with Ken Hall Stadium in Missouri City).
