Treasure Life Crest
This year you will notice that the Treasure Life Logo has been placed on all Beaumont Ringette Jerseys. It can be found on the right sleeve. Players can be proud to support the message these logos represent, that 1 in 100 children are born with or later acquire serious heart conditions. The Treasure Life Foundation and the Beaumont Ringette Association supports programs that benefit these children and their families at the Stollery Childrens Hospital.
Treasure Life
The Evan Ty Jenkins Pediatric Research Foundation operating as Treasure Life has been formed to preserve the memory of a special little boy afflicted with congenital heart disease. He passed away in Edmonton, Alberta in July, 2006 at the age of 7 years from a stroke after undergoing his second open heart surgery. The Foundation intends to seek opportunities to support research, training, and education specific to improving and extending the lives of children born with complex cardiac conditions and to reduce the incidence of stroke following surgical procedures. Evan’s cousins Jenaya and Jaylan Jenkins have both been participants in Beaumont Ringette. Evan was in the stands cheering for many years, encouraging his cousins to play hard and score a goal for him. Perhaps all participants playing this year can recognize that not all kids can play and put in that extra effort for these children. In 2009, the Foundation will purchase much needed medical equipment at the Stollery Children’s Hospital including blood pressure monitoring equipment, oximeters and Coaguchek machines. This equipment can be taken home so children can monitor these things without having to go to the hospital or lab all the time. We also sponsored educational materials for patients, families and medical staff. We will also purchase Nintendo DS and Playstation portables complete with games for children to play with while they are staying in the hospital. These purchases will compliment the Treasure Bead Program which encourages children to track their hospital journey by collecting special beads for each procedure they endure and place on their journey chain. The Foundation is pleased to administrate the 2009 Brass Ring Tournament and continues to raise education and awareness regarding the challenges of Cardiac Children. We encourage all players to remember that the opportunity to play is the best part of the game.
Sincerely; Charlene and Rick Jenkins
