Brandon Jr. Blackhawks: Welcome

Welcome to the Brandon Jr. Blackhawks Football and Cheer organization. This multi-championship organization was founded in 1991 and strives to provide the Brandon community with a competitive youth program that also focuses on developing skills, self-esteem, and academic excellence.

Brandon competes within the Northern Youth Football League (NYFL) which was founded in 2005 and is comprised of teams from Brandon, Clarkston, Lapeer, Lk. Orion, Oxford, Rochester, and Waterford.

About the NYFL...

The focus being on community, the NYFL has the support of local school districts and/or governments and plays at some of the best facilities with five of the eight franchises playing on Field Turf. This is the same playing surface that the Detroit Lions and University of Michigan use. All facilities have concessions and proper amenities.
The league is divided into two divisions: Freshman and Junior Varsity. The Freshman athletes are 8 and 9 years old. The Junior Varsity athletes are 10 and 11 years old. Ages are based on September 1 of the current year. Please see rules for weight limits.

The season usually consists of 8 games that are played on a Saturday or Sunday.  There are no practices or games over the Labor Day weekend.  When possible, night games are added to increase playing experience and atmosphere.

The NYFL is not a "centralized" league and each team conducts their own registration.  For more information about each team, click "NYFL Team Links" on the left information bar.

Academic All-American Program
It has become a NYFL tradition to recognize academic achievement.  At halftime of each divisional Super Bowl, student-athletes are recognized from each franchise. The recognition is to remind everyone that success on the field is secondary to what is achieved in the classroom. Each student had a B- average or better and in 2012 over one thousand Cheerleaders and Football players qualified.

How to install football pads into the pants.

For new parents, here is a helpful video on how to install those pesky pads into the football pants. Please try those pants on as soon as possible, because game day is too late to make sure that everything fits.

Please bring a copy of your child's birth certificate to the registration night. If you have a current physical that is good thru November of this year, please bring that as well.  If you are a new player, please bring 3 choices of numbers for the football jersey.

Our organization is ran purely on volunteer support. Without your help, we could not have such a successful organization. Please consider it in your heart to volunteer as much as you can. We have many things that need to be done prior to the season starting and during the games.
