What You Need To Be A Rebel

I get many calls from parents and players expressing interest in becoming a member of the Rebels. They always ask me what I'm looking for in a player. As well as physical skills here there are many mental traits that impress me:

1. High motivation and commitment - the drive desire and motivation to be the best.
2. An optimistic and positive outlook when facing difficulties.
3. Being a positive perfectionist by setting high standards for themselves.
4. Having the ability to focus on their performances while dealing with distractions.
5. Exhibiting the ability to perform under pressure and reduce or handle their stress level.
6. To be mentally tough - demonstrate resilience, perseverance, to fight through physical pain and deal with adversity.
7. To have sport specific intelligence - to be able to learn new information, to be able to analyse their performance and make corrections.

If you look at the Rebels, player for player, you will find that they all have these fine qualities. Win or lose these traits will serve them well in life!

Why Girls Should Play Sports

Personally, I feel that girls who play a sport, especially a team sport, will gain many skills or traits that will give them an advantage in life.
* They will be less likely to smoke or drink alcohol.
* Sports will boost their self esteem and self confidence.
* They will achieve better grades in school.
* They will have a lower risk of developing physical or mental illnesses.
* They will become mentally and physically stronger.
* Their self-discipline will increase, poor "life skill decisions" will decrease.
* Lessons learned through sport would be carried on throughout their lives - fair play, dealing emotionally with victory and defeat, working together, communication with others, building and maintaining friendships - This will increase their chances of personal and career success.

This says a lot for being involved in sports!
