2012 Excelsior Banquet Award Winners

The Brampton Excelsiors lacrosse club recently held their annual awards banquet on December 27th at the Brampton Lions Club.  Awards were given out to players, coaches and volunteers throughout the entire organization.

Many of our Junior A team were in attendance.  Indiviaudl award winners were selected by the coaches.  These were very tough decisions because lacrosse is the ultimate team game.  Awards were presented to:

Rookie of the Year (The Jim Clevely Memorial Award) - Wayne McCann

Wayne scored some big goals during this past season. He has a "me against the world mentality" and never used size, ball touches or lack of experience as an excuse not to succeed.  In 19 games he scored 21 goals and assisted on 38 others for a point total of 59!

Unsung Hero (The John Ford Memorial Award) - Tyler Ferreira

Tyler is easily our best all around player.  He can play both ends of the floor, has a great work ethic, is a real team guy and was asked to change rolls to play out the back door and quickly became one of the best transition threats in our league.

MVP Defensive (The Dr. W.W. Bartlett Memorial Award) - Connor Sellars

Connor has a great combination of skill, speed and size.  This resulted in him developing into one of the premier transition players in the league.  As a 1st year back door player he quickly became one of our best shutdown defenders against the opposing teams best players.

MVP Regular Season (The Pete Anthony Memorial Award) - Shane MacDonald

Leading Scorer (The John McCauley Memorial Award) - Shane MacDonald

Shane is a dual award winner.  He has the relentless ability to go to the net.  His presence in the offensive end resulted in a scoring threat everytime he was on the floor.  He amassed a total of 98 regular season points - 37 goals and 61 assists, leading our team in scoring and finishing number 3 in the entire league.  In addition to his phenomenal offensive skills he also was a true leader on and off the floor driving his team members to elevate their game.

MVP Playoffs (The Brian Green Memorial Award) - Ryan Kelly

Ryan was the anchor for our team all year.  With all of the new faces on the team and the transitioning of  front door players to the back door he enabled us to win games that we probably shouldn't have.  He carried his leadership through into the playoffs and was out best performer against Whitby, averaging a very respectable 9 goals against average.

Most Sportsmanlike (The Bruce McClure Memorial Award) - Philip Caputo

Philip began to build a reputation as one of those rare tough players that plays in the toughest areas of the floor.  No other player goes to the middle as hard as he does.  In 18 regular season games he scored 18 goals and helped with 10 assists.  Our coaching staff expects big things from him in the coming season.

Congratulations to our 2012 award winners!  See the photo section of the website for pictures of the winners.
