'bout That Basketball: Our Founders
'bout That Basketball (bTB) Corporation was started in 2012 by three close friends and business partners who share the same beliefs in business, life, and sports. Together, Alvin Castro, Kenyatta Niles, and Randy Narciso started ‘bout That Basketball after coaching their own children in several youth basketball leagues (YMCA and LA Parks & Recreation), but quickly realized that many of the young players were missing core basketball fundamentals. With the short 8 week basketball seasons combined with limited practice time, the coaches found it challenging to instill and teach players the required individual and team basketball skills. Once a season ended, many of the players who started to grasp the basketball concepts would regress since they would join new teams with different coaching philosophies. Year in and year out, the young players were not developing as quickly but more importantly were missing many of the core basketball fundamentals. Because of this ongoing dilemma, Alvin, Kenyatta, and Randy decided to form a youth basketball organization where they could coach their own kids and other youths throughout the year and instill a consistent coaching philosophy, resulting in vast improvement of youth basketball skills and play.
All three of the coaches consistently teach their young children a proven fact of life; that if they put forth hard work, dedication, attention to detail, and a positive attitude in anything they do, they will be successful in the end. These are the same personal beliefs that the founders teach their players, encouraging them to be great players on the court and successful leaders off the court. While player improvement at the youth level is their immediate goal, the founders are committed to teaching lifelong lessons to their players and motivating them to reach their maximum potential as players and in life. As founders of 'bout That Basketball, Alvin, Kenyatta, and Randy not only serve as head coaches to ensure their coaching philosophies are taught correctly but also actively run day-to-day operations for the non-profit organization.
