10/25/2009 MASSACHUSETTS ASA AND METRO BOSTON ASA MERGING INTO
MASS-ASA SOFTBALL
In October 2009, the National ASA Board of Directors in conjunction with Massachusetts ASA Commissioner Ed Ladley
and Metro Boston ASA Commissioner Joseph Alfonse agreed to merge both ASA associations into one governing body
MASS-ASA.
Former Metro Boston ASA JO Commissioner Phil McElroy will now serve as the MASS-ASA State JO Commissioner
while the former Massachusetts ASA State JO Commissioner Wayne Coe will assume the role of Deputy State JO
Commissioner. Most of the local JO Commissioners will remain with expanded roles. More will be announced in the
coming weeks.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOUR TEAM OR LEAGUE?
The biggest change will be who you will be sending forms to. ASA registration forms for your team or league will be
sent to Phil McElroy at the MASS-ASA office. Registrations for teams to play in States, Regionals, or National Qualifiers
along with tournament sanction requests will be sent to Wayne Coe. MASS-ASA will also have a deputy JO Commissioner
in charge of on-site ACE coaches certification clinics for those teams or teams interested.
For the most part, the people you have been dealing with in either Metro Boston ASA or Massachusetts ASA on a JO
level will remain. By combining the Associations, MASS-ASA can provide teams and leagues with even better service
and provide more programs.
