JC Booth Athletics: Football FAQ
![]() |
We are looking forward to a successful 2008 season for our 7th and 8th grade football teams! Following are some typical questions and answers relating to football which we hope you'll find helpful if you're planning to become a J.C. Booth Football Warrior this coming season:
Q: When does football begin?
Pre-season practices begin when school begins on August 11th.
Q: Can any student play football?
Middle school football is open to eligible 7th and 8th grade male students who have completed and submitted the required paperwork.
No academically eligible student can participate in football until a physical form, a parent consent form and a signed Code of Conduct agreement have been completed and submitted to the appropriate coach. This paperwork can be found in the 'Athletic Forms and Info' section of this website. Please try to get these forms completed before school starts so the student can participate in football immediately.
Q: What else is required to be eligible to play?
- Student must pass all 5 academic subject the semester preceding football season
- Student must not reach his 15th birthday prior to May 1 preceding his 8th grade year. Student must not reach his 14th birthday prior to May 1 preceding his 7th grade year.
- Eligible students can participate in each sport, once in the 7th grade and once in the 8th grade.
- Student must adhere to all rules and regulations as outlined in the Athletic/Extracurricular Code of Conduct and/or specific written guidelines developed by the coach and/or school administration.
Q: When are practices held?
We will practice Monday-Friday. Practices will be from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Once games begin, we will practice on Mondays and Wednesday - Friday. We play games on Tuesdays. Please check the 'Football (7th Grade)' or 'Football (8th Grade)' sections of the site for actual schedules.
Q: When and where will we play?
Our games are played on Tuesdays at 5 pm. We will play games against Rising Starr Middle, Flat Rock Middle, Bennett's Mill Middle, Whitewater Middle and Fayette Middle. Our 7th grade and 8th grade teams will play at the same time, at opposite field locations.
Q: Does it cost to play?
Each player will be required to pay a $110 Activity Fee to play football. While this fee is somewhat higher than for other sports at J.C. Booth, it is comparable to the football activity fee to play football at other Fayette County middle schools.
The fee for football is somewhat higher than the fee required for other sports due to the additional costs associated with operating a football program at the school. Game uniforms, helmets, pads, etc., will be provided and will be collected at the end of the season.
Q: What about medical conditions?
The physical your son takes will determine if he is able to participate in football. If the medical doctor does not release him to play, he cannot participate. Minor medical conditions (such as asthma) usually will not prevent a student from participating.
Q: What about injuries?
Immediate care will be administered if an injury occurs. If the injury persists, it would be advised that the player see a medical professional.
Q: Can I help out?
Parental support is certainly welcomed and appreciated. We will need volunteers for duties such as gatekeeper, field prep, chain gang member, and other important duties. All this will be covered in the parent meeting prior to the start of the season.
