BOARD OF DIRECTORS TAKES STAND ON "NO SHOWS"
The Boone National Little League Board of Directors prides themselves on Boones Little League Program. It takes many hours of volunteered labor to maintain such a high quality program, one that the youth of Boone and the surrounding area has come to enjoy and expect. We depend heavily on the parents of those youth to perform a few easy tasks so that we are able to keep the cost of registration to a minimum and one of the lowest in the nation.
One of simplest tasks that we ask the parents to perform is working a shift in our concession stand. The proceeds from that stand are depended upon to maintain our program. This is a busy world that we live in and for that reason we give parents an option. They may work their assigned shift or notify us at least 48 hours prior to their assigned shift that they are unable to work their shift and pay a $20 fee. The 48 hours is used to arrange for someone to work in his or her place and the $20 is used to pay that replacement worker.
Sometimes parents neglect their responsibilities and simply do not show up for their time in the concession stand forcing those who do show up to work short causing long lines and ultimately a missed inning or two for those people in line. We call those people "NO SHOWS". Our Concession Stand Manager must hurriedly telephone someone to take the "No Shows" place and things get back to normal eventually however we have to pay that person to replace the "No Show". This steals money from the programs pocket! We will, for that reason, assess the "NO SHOW" a fee of $30.
Even though we regret having to do so, the Board of Directors has a rule in place to deal with the "No Shows". When a parent does not show up for their shift in the concession stand their family is taken off our "IN GOOD STANDING" list. Any person not in "Good Standing" with the local league is not elligible to participate in All Stars, to register for participation during the following BNLL season, to coach or hold office. The only way to regain the "In Good Standing" status is to pay ALL fees, turn in ALL BNLL equipment and turn in ALL BNLL uniforms.
There were FORTY SIX parents that DID NOT SHOW for their assigned shift in the Concession Stand duiring the 2004 season. They will soon be receiving a statement from Boone National Little League informing them that their family is no longer "In Good Standing" with the league. We will inform them of the means by which they may regain their "In Good Standing" status.
We urge everyone to make sure that their fees are paid and their equipment and uniforms are turned in to the appropriate BNLL Board Member. A list of families NOT "In Good Standing" will be posted on this web sight after the invoices have been mailed and a reasonable length of time has elapsed.
