News from the Bolton Youth Basketball Board

We know everyone is still in summer mode and basketball is the last thing on your minds.    For us however the work never ends.  We will be sending notices home the first or second week of school to begin the registration process for the 2006/2007 season for grades K thru 12.  Registration will be held at the Bolton Center School on Wednesday, September 20 and Thursday, September 28 from 6 PM to 8 PM.   Starting September 11, 2006 you can also register at the recreation office during town hall hours.  Registration will be thru Friday September 29 for grades 3 thru 12 after which a $10 late fee will be charged.   K-2 registration will be accepted thru November 30, 2006.

During the off season we re-assessed the fees for the program and compared our fees to surrounding towns’ fees.  In order to maintain a quality program for the kids the fees for the 2006/2007 season will be a follows:

Grades K-2 - $40 ($50 late fee)

Grades 3-6 - $55 ($65 late fee)

Grades 7-12 - $60 ($70 late fee)

Grades 5-8 - Travel Team Fee - $80

Open gym will begin the first week in October with further days and times announced in September.  Screening for rec teams and travel team tryouts will take place the latter part of October. We will begin the rec program sometime in early November (usually after soccer ends).

Thanks to all of our sponsors last season, we were able have a successful season and meet the needs of our budget.  Last season we were required by the league to use certified referees, which was an added expense to our program.  Sponsorship of teams enabled us to provide these officials.  ** Any individual or company interested in sponsoring a basketball team for the 2005/2006 season please contact  Missie Carlson at 649-7573 or Sue Malanga at 645-6711.  It costs $300 to sponsor a team.   Jerseys are provided to the kids with the sponsors name on the front  as well as mention in any program at games.***    This is an excellent form of advertising.

Volunteers are integral to the success of the basketball program.  We need coaches at every level.  Look for upcoming information on an introductory coaching clinic to be held in October.  No experience is necessary!!!  Just patience and time, kids LOVE having their parents involved.

If you have any questions or need additional information please feel free to contact any of the board members:

Pete Phelon, Referee and Web Site Coordinator

We look forward to a successful fun season!

         BOLTON YOUTH BASKETBALL
Code of Ethics

2005-2006

I hereby pledge to provide positive support, care, and  encouragement for my child participating in youth sports by following this Parents Code of Ethics.

I (and my guests) will be positive role models for my child, and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy and not using offensive behavior or language – and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, and spectators at every game, practice, or other sporting event.

I will teach my child that doing one’s best is more important than winning and I will praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard.

I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.

I will teach my child to treat other players, coaches, officials, and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex, or ability.

I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices unless I am an official coach.

I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child and  remember that the game is for youths – not adults.

I have read and understand the above Code of Ethics and agree to its guidelines.  I understand that if I do not follow this Code of Ethics I may be asked by whomever the Board of Directors appoints to enforce these ethics to leave the activity (such as a game or practice).

I hereby pledge to conduct myself at all times in a way that demonstrates my commitment to the following Coach’s Code of Ethics.

I will create a positive and fun environment for the players.

I will provide open communication with parents and enlist their help and support with the team.

I will place the development of player skills and knowledge ahead of  winning games.  I will encourage team play over individual efforts.  I will, in accordance with the league rules, give equal playing time to all players.

I will be a positive role model for the players by showing emotional maturity, controlling my anger, and never using obscene language or gestures towards anyone involved with the program, including but not limited to, referees, parents, coaches, spectators, and players.

I will always put player safety and health first.

I will demand a sports environment that is free from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco and will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.

I will honor the game and help players and parents to appreciate the sport and the life lessons that can be gained from the sport.

I have read and understand the above Code of Ethics and agree to its guidelines.  I understand that if I do not follow this Code of Ethics I may be asked by whomever the Board of Directors appoints to enforce these ethics to leave the activity (such as a game or practice) or give up my coaching position entirely.
