2010/11 Season
Norcal Premier Spring League 2010 U13G
The first game was against a strong Marin FC squad. The game was well played by both sides with Boca having more time of possession and scoring opportunities. The only goal came from a corner kick that Annie Ware directed into the net. Annie Ware and Caroline Kaniff, our two U13 players, were big contributors the whole weekend and deserve a lot of credit for the success of the team during the tournament.
The second game was against FC Milpitas. Once again the Boca team possessed the ball well but was challenged at every turn by a very physical Milpitas team. Milpitas took an early 1-0 lead but it wasn’t long before Boca struck back. Boca’s first goal came from a breakaway by Savannah Watson. Savannah took possession of the ball at midfield and turned on her blazing speed. Numerous defenders chased her but Savannah calmly shot the ball low and hard passed the goalie. The second goal was an amazing shot by Jessica Adger. Jessica took possession deep on the left side of the offensive zone, found space between defenders and struck a whirling-curving ball that hit the upper portion of the far post and bounced in. The final goal came from Savannah Watson when she steered a corner kick from Lizzie Merrill into the net. It was a great 3-1 comeback against a very physical team on a hot Saturday afternoon. The team met later that evening for dinner and a few laughs at a local pizza parlor.
The third game was on Sunday at noon against the host club Sonoma County Alliance GN. Once again, the Boca team possessed the ball well and controlled the game. The only scores came from two free kicks just outside the penalty area. Lizzie Merrill turned both of those opportunities into scores with rocket shots into the far upper corner of the goal. Boca wins the game 2-0 and advances to the championship game.
The championship game was a hard-fought affair that Boca lost 1-0 to Placer Blues. It was a well-played game by both sides. Boca hit the crossbar with a shot from Lizzie Merrill and Savannah Droke missed scoring by a few inches over the top. It was a great weekend of soccer.
Fall League:
The fall league started out in similar fashion to the Spring League with 2 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw. The team chemistry kicked in and Boca won the last 6 games of the season. This was a remarkable achievement given the number of new players and injuries to key players.
